Alibaba Cloud ACA Cloud Computing: retired and replaced by Cloud Engineer Associate

The Alibaba Cloud ACA Cloud Computing certification can no longer be taken. Alibaba Cloud Academy stopped selling it on 31 December 2024, ended it on 31 March 2025 and replaced it with the Alibaba Cloud Certified Associate: Cloud Engineer, exam code CEA-C01. Existing ACA certificates stay valid until they expire, but cannot be renewed. The successor exam has 50 questions in 90 minutes, a passing score of 70 out of 100, costs USD 200 and is taken through Pearson VUE.

Is the ACA Cloud Computing certification still available?

No. In its announcement “Important Update on Professional Certifications”, Alibaba Cloud Academy lists ACA Cloud Computing Associate as replaced by Cloud Engineer (Associate). The dates are fixed: end of sales on 31 December 2024, end of life on 31 March 2025 and a grace period ending on 30 June 2025.

Alibaba Cloud explains the change as a refresh of its certification offerings, moving towards job roles and the skills those roles need. The old ACA Cloud Computing page now redirects to the Alibaba Cloud Academy home page, and the exam can no longer be bought or booked.

What happens to existing ACA Cloud Computing certificates?

Alibaba Cloud Academy states that learners who already hold certificates for retiring certifications keep them, and that they remain valid until they expire. For anyone who certified before the end-of-life date, the validity of the certificate is still two years.

What you cannot do is renew it. Alibaba Cloud states that learners won’t be able to recertify after end of life because these exams will no longer be offered. To hold a current Alibaba Cloud associate credential after your ACA certificate expires, you would need to pass the successor exam.

In its December 2024 update, Alibaba Cloud Academy also asked anyone holding unused exam codes or classroom training for the replaced certifications to redeem them before end of life, and to contact the Academy to upgrade codes to the new exam.

ACA Cloud Computing replacement: Alibaba Cloud Certified Associate: Cloud Engineer

The Cloud Engineer certification page names ACA Cloud Computing in its “Replaces” field, so this is the direct successor. The exam code is CEA-C01, and Alibaba Cloud recommends it for junior-level solution architects.

Alibaba Cloud describes the role behind it this way: a cloud engineer is responsible for understanding Alibaba Cloud services to create, configure and manage cloud resources. It calls it a foundational role that is essential for advancing to specialised positions and that supports cloud operations within an organisation.

The shift is from a product-knowledge exam to a role-based one. Expect the questions to ask what you would do with Alibaba Cloud services as an engineer, rather than only what each service is.
