GED classes and GED prep courses
GED classes come in three kinds: free or low-cost adult education classes run in your state, the official GED Live online program from GED Testing Service (from $79), and in-person classes at more than 6,000 GED prep centers listed on GED.com. Which one fits depends on your budget, your schedule and how many subjects you still need.

Free GED classes through adult education
The most common route to free GED classes is your state’s adult education program. In Texas, for example, the Texas Education Agency lists free adult education classes in live, hybrid or virtual formats, and eligible students in grant-funded programs who are 21 or older and likely to pass can receive free test vouchers.
Free ged courses through adult education are organized by each state, so the formats, eligibility rules and voucher offers differ. Ask your state education agency or a local GED prep center which ged classes for free are offered near you.

Free GED classes for adults online
Many adult education programs also run classes online. The Texas example above includes virtual classes, which makes them free GED classes for adults online for those who qualify. A free GED class online from an adult education provider is usually tied to residency and enrollment in that program.
GED Testing Service itself does not list a free online course for GED on its classes pages. Its free offers are the GED.com account and free sample tests; its online classes are paid. If you are looking for free online courses for GED, start with your state’s adult education office, and check with your employer: GED Testing Service says some companies provide free GED preparation and testing through its GEDWorks program.

GED prep classes at local prep centers
GED.com has a locator for GED prep classes: enter your city, state or ZIP code to find in-person classes nearby. GED Testing Service counts over 6,000 GED prep centers worldwide and mentions both daytime classes and night classes, with flexible schedules for students who work full time.
Before you join GED test preparation classes at a local center, ask who runs them and what they cost; GED Testing Service does not publish class prices for these centers.

Choosing between classes for GED subjects
Because you schedule and pay for each GED subject separately, you do not need a full course if only one subject is left. GED Live sells math and language arts on their own. Compare GED prep courses on four points: which subjects they cover, whether classes are live or recorded, how long access lasts, and whether you get a practice test that predicts your result.
If you need structure, ged test classes online with a fixed schedule help; if you work shifts, recorded lessons or self-study may fit better. In every case, finish with the official GED Ready practice test before you book.

Practice alongside your GED class
A GED prep class teaches the content; practice questions show whether it sticks. Certsqill’s GED question bank has expert-developed questions in all four subjects, an explanation for every answer option and a readiness score per subject.
