What is AZ-500?
What is AZ 500, what is AZ-500: it is the exam for Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate — the certification for people who secure Azure rather than build it. Identity and access, networking, compute and data, and the two products Microsoft puts the most weight on: Defender for Cloud and Sentinel.
Microsoft rates it Intermediate and names no required prior certification, so the AZ 500 prerequisites and AZ-500 prerequisites are, formally, none. What it assumes is working Azure administration knowledge, which is why AZ-104 usually comes first.

What is on the exam?
The passing score is 700, because Microsoft reports all technical exam scores on a scale of 1 to 1,000 and states that 700 or greater is a pass. The AZ-500 exam cost is the other thing people search for here, and it is the one Microsoft did not show: its certification page carried neither a price nor a duration in minutes when checked on 24 September 2026. So the AZ-500 exam cost, the AZ-500 cost, the AZ 500 certification cost and the AZ-500 certification cost all have the same answer — Microsoft prices exams by the country or region in which they are proctored, and the binding figure appears at registration. Any fixed number you see elsewhere comes from a reseller.
What Microsoft does publish is the weighting of the four skill areas, and the fourth one is the story of this exam:
- Secure identity and access — 15–20%
- Secure networking — 20–25%
- Secure compute, storage, and databases — 20–25%
- Secure Azure using Microsoft Defender for Cloud and Microsoft Sentinel — 30–35%

Where can you find AZ-500 practice questions?
This site holds 500 AZ-500 practice questions across the four skill areas. Every question shows all options, which one is correct, and why each of the others is wrong.
An AZ 500 practice test, an AZ-500 practice test, an AZ 500 practice exam, an AZ-500 practice exam, AZ-500 questions, AZ-500 exam questions, AZ 500 exam questions, AZ-500 practice questions: one need under many wordings.
What you will not find here are AZ-500 dumps — recycled live exam content. A third of this exam sits on Defender for Cloud and Sentinel, two products Microsoft changes continuously, so a leaked question set ages faster here than almost anywhere else. These questions are written against Microsoft’s published study guide instead.
What AZ-500 study guide do you need?
Microsoft publishes the AZ 500 study guide and free learning paths; they define what is in scope. Check the date rather than a version code — Microsoft revises role-based content without changing the exam number.
On renewal: Microsoft renews its role-based certifications through an online assessment, states that renewals are free, and gives a six-month eligibility window before expiry.

AZ-500 vs AZ-104 and SC-200
AZ 104 vs AZ 500, or AZ-104 vs AZ-500, is administration against security at the same level. AZ-104 runs Azure; AZ-500 secures it. Microsoft sets no requirement to pass AZ-104 first, but AZ-500 assumes you can already do the administration it is hardening.
AZ-500 vs SC-200 splits by platform scope: AZ-500 secures Azure itself, while SC-200 is the security operations analyst exam across Microsoft’s security stack. The overlap is Defender and Sentinel, which is where both spend their weight.
