Is the MB-280 exam retired?

Yes. Microsoft’s MB-280 study guide carries the warning that the exam was retired on 31 July 2026 at 11:59 PM Central Standard Time. The certification page states that the certification and the renewal assessment are retired, and Microsoft’s retirement lists show both the exam and the Dynamics 365 Customer Experience Analyst Associate certification with the date 31 July 2026.

Microsoft is explicit about what that means: after the retirement date you cannot take the exam or earn the associated certification. There is no extension, no late booking and no route to earn this specific credential any more.

If you were halfway through preparing, the time is not wasted. The skills MB-280 measured — Dynamics 365 Sales, Dataverse and model-driven apps, Customer Insights — are the same skills you use on real projects, but they now have to be shown through a different credential.

What happens to the Dynamics 365 Customer Experience Analyst cert if you already hold it?

Microsoft’s credential retirement page states that if you earned or renewed a certification before it was retired, it remains on your transcript in the Active Certifications section until it expires. Once it expires, it moves to the Historical Certifications section.

Renewal is no longer an option. The renewal assessment was retired together with the certification, and Microsoft’s retirement guidance notes that eligible holders could renew only before the retirement date. Plan for the date your current certification expires; after that it stays on your record as historical, not active.

What was the Dynamics 365 Customer Experience Analyst Associate certification?

Microsoft classed it as an intermediate certification for business analysts and functional consultants. The candidate it described configures solutions using Microsoft Dynamics 365 customer experience apps and understands an organisation’s sales processes, the seller’s perspective, AI-driven features for seller efficiency and how marketing supports sales.

Microsoft expected proficiency in Dynamics 365 Sales and familiarity with Microsoft Dataverse, Power Apps, Power Automate cloud flows and Dynamics 365 Customer Insights – Journeys and – Data. The responsibilities it listed range from configuring standard and premium Sales features and managing the security model to extending functionality with Microsoft Power Platform.

What was on the MB-280 exam?

The last skills outline, labelled “Skills measured as of September 24, 2025”, had four areas. The Dataverse and model-driven apps area carried the most weight, ahead of Dynamics 365 Sales itself, so MB-280 was never a pure sales exam:

  • Implement Dynamics 365 Sales — 30–35%
  • Configure and customize Dataverse and model-driven apps — 35–40%
  • Demonstrate Dynamics 365 Customer Insights capabilities — 10–15%
  • Extend and enhance Dynamics 365 Sales capabilities — 10–15%

MB-280 exam format and passing score

While it was live, MB-280 was a proctored exam with a passing score of 700 or greater. Where the exam was not available in a candidate’s preferred language, Microsoft allowed a request for an additional 30 minutes.

The retired pages checked for this article do not state the number of questions, the exam length or the former exam fee, so this page gives none of them. Those details no longer matter for planning, since the exam cannot be booked.

Is there a replacement for MB-280?

Microsoft’s retirement pages list MB-280 without a replacement, and the certification page links only to a general announcement about Microsoft’s new AI business credentials. Microsoft does not name a one-to-one successor for this certification on the pages checked for this article.

If you need a current credential for Dynamics 365 customer experience work, look at Microsoft Learn’s list of active certifications for business applications and compare each exam’s skills outline with the four MB-280 areas above. Choose by the work you do, not by the old exam code.

Should you still study the MB-280 material?

Studying for the exam itself no longer makes sense: there is nothing left to book. Studying the content still can. Dataverse configuration, model-driven apps, the Dynamics 365 Sales security model and Power Platform extensions are core skills for functional consultants regardless of which certification you aim for next.

Be careful with material advertised as MB-280 preparation after July 2026. It prepares you for an exam that no longer exists, and any “exam guaranteed” promise attached to it is meaningless.

Was the Dynamics 365 Customer Experience Analyst cert worth it?

For people who earned it, it documents a skill set Microsoft itself described in detail: configuring Dynamics 365 Sales, Dataverse and model-driven apps, with Customer Insights on top. That remains true on your transcript until the certification expires.

For anyone who has not earned it, the question is settled by the retirement. Microsoft does not publish salary data for this credential, and this page quotes none from other sources.

MB-280 practice questions

Because MB-280 is retired, practice questions for it only make sense as a skills check, not as exam preparation. If you use them that way, look for what matters on any exam: expert-developed questions and an explanation for every answer option.

Certsqill’s practice works the same way on every exam it covers: expert-developed questions, an explanation for each answer option, a readiness score per exam domain and a 7-day money-back guarantee. For a live Microsoft exam, that readiness score tells you which area still needs work before you book.
