MS-900 certification: retired on 31 March 2026 — what it means now
The MS-900 certification is retired. Microsoft retired the MS-900 exam and Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals on 31 March 2026, so it can no longer be taken. If you already hold it, it stays on your transcript and does not expire. Microsoft names no direct replacement on the MS-900 page.

Is MS-900 retired?
Yes. Microsoft’s retirement list shows MS-900, Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals, retired on 31 March 2026, and states that retired exams can no longer be taken. The MS-900 study guide gives the exact time: 31 March 2026 at 11:59 PM Central Standard Time. The certification page itself now carries the notice that the certification is retired.
Microsoft does not name a successor on the MS-900 certification page or in the study guide. The retirement notice links to a Microsoft announcement about a certifications refresh with AI-focused and fundamentals updates, which could not be read in full for this page, so we do not claim a replacement.

What is the MS-900 certification?
MS-900 was the exam behind Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals, a beginner-level certification for foundational knowledge of cloud-based productivity and collaboration for on-site, remote and hybrid workers. Microsoft wrote it for candidates new to Microsoft 365 as well as those who already knew cloud solutions.
Candidates were expected to recommend Microsoft 365 solutions for common IT challenges — productivity, collaboration, communications, data security and compliance — and solutions for endpoint and application management, desktop virtualization, automated operating system deployment, and reporting and analytics. Licensing, deployment and support options were part of the scope too.
In the certification path it was an entry point, not a gate: Microsoft stated that it could prepare you for other Microsoft certifications but was not a prerequisite for them.

I have MS-900 — is it still valid?
Yes, and this is where MS-900 differs from retired associate certifications. Microsoft’s renewal FAQ states that renewal does not apply to fundamentals certifications because they do not expire. Microsoft’s retirement page adds that an already earned certification stays on the transcript in your Microsoft Learn profile.
So a Microsoft 365 Fundamentals certification earned before 31 March 2026 remains on your record with no renewal to worry about. What has ended is the possibility of earning it now.
The contrast with Microsoft’s associate, expert and specialty certifications is worth knowing if you plan your next step: those expire after one year and are kept current through a free online renewal assessment. Microsoft states that once such a certification retires, there is no longer an option to renew it. Fundamentals certifications avoid that problem entirely.

How much did the MS-900 certification cost?
The retired certification page no longer shows a price, and this page does not repeat a historical figure from memory or from third-party sites. Microsoft’s page is the source we use, and it states none today.
For the Microsoft 365 fundamentals exam that is live today, AB-900, Microsoft states only that the price is based on the country or region in which the exam is proctored.

What was the MS-900 exam format and passing score?
The certification page still shows the exam time: 45 minutes, in line with Microsoft’s rule for fundamentals exams (45 minutes of exam time, 65 minutes of seat time). The exam was proctored and offered in twelve languages, including English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic (Saudi Arabia) and Russian. Microsoft did not publish a question count.
The MS-900 passing score was 700: the study guide states that a score of 700 or greater was required to pass, on Microsoft’s scale of 1 to 1,000. Microsoft notes that as a scaled score it may not equal 70% of the points, and that there is no penalty for guessing.

What was on the MS-900 exam?
The final skills outline, dated 30 April 2025, had four areas. Apps and services carried almost half of the exam:
- Describe cloud concepts — 5–10%
- Describe Microsoft 365 apps and services — 45–50%
- Describe security, compliance, privacy, and trust in Microsoft 365 — 25–30%
- Describe Microsoft 365 pricing, licensing, and support — 10–15%

MS-900 prerequisites
There were none. Microsoft listed no required certification or experience for MS-900 and addressed it explicitly to people new to Microsoft 365.
The same holds for its current Microsoft 365 neighbour at fundamentals level, AB-900, though that exam expects more: familiarity with Microsoft 365 core services, security, identity and access, data protection and governance, the admin centres, and Microsoft 365 Copilot and agents.

MS-900 vs AB-900: what Microsoft lists for Microsoft 365 now
Microsoft does not call AB-900 the MS-900 replacement on any page checked for this article, so this page does not either. What Microsoft Learn currently lists as a beginner-level Microsoft 365 certification is Microsoft 365 Certified: Copilot and Agent Administration Fundamentals, earned with exam AB-900.
The focus has moved. MS-900 described Microsoft 365 apps, cloud concepts, security and licensing. AB-900 assesses the core features and objects of Microsoft 365 services, data protection and governance for Microsoft 365 and Copilot, and basic administrative tasks for Copilot and agents.
Both are 45-minute fundamentals exams. AB-900’s English version is scheduled to be updated on 14 October 2026, so check its study guide for the version you will sit.

MS-900 study materials and training
Microsoft keeps the MS-900 study guide online with its retirement notice, and the certification page states that no training is available for the exam. The guide is still useful as a record of what your certification covered.
For a live exam, use that exam’s own study guide on Microsoft Learn. The AB-900 page links its study guide, a practice assessment and the exam sandbox.

MS-900 practice questions
MS-900 practice questions on Certsqill explain every option and follow Microsoft’s official weighting. Keep the retirement in mind before you spend study time: practice for MS-900 can no longer lead to the MS-900 certification.

Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals (MS-900) at a glance
If you searched for Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals MS-900, the Microsoft MS-900 certification or simply the MS-900 cert, the short answer is on this page already: the exam retired on 31 March 2026 and can no longer be taken. This section answers the practical questions that follow — practice tests, courses, cost, vouchers and whether it is still worth anything.
The Microsoft 365 Certified Fundamentals exam MS-900 — Exam MS-900, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals — was the only route to the certification. With the exam retired, the Microsoft 365 Fundamentals MS-900 certification can be held, but not newly earned.

MS-900 practice test and practice exams
An MS-900 practice test can no longer lead to the certification, so think twice before you spend time on one. Microsoft’s retired certification page still shows a link to its practice assessment, which Microsoft describes as an overview of the style, wording and difficulty of the questions — useful only as a record of how the old exam looked.
The same applies to MS-900 practice exams, MS-900 exam questions and MS-900 sample questions from any source: they prepare you for an exam that no longer exists. If your goal is a current Microsoft 365 credential at fundamentals level, practise for the exam that is live today. Microsoft Learn lists AB-900, Copilot and Agent Administration Fundamentals, with its own practice assessment and an exam sandbox — though Microsoft does not call it the MS-900 replacement.

MS-900 dumps
Sites still advertise MS-900 dumps. There is nothing to use them for: the exam cannot be booked, so no dump can help you pass it. They were never reliable preparation in the first place, because there is no way to know whether such material is accurate.
If you hold the certification, your record is on your Microsoft Learn transcript; if you do not, no file of questions changes that.

Microsoft 365 Fundamentals course, training and study guide
A Microsoft 365 Fundamentals course for MS-900 is no longer offered by Microsoft: the retired certification page states that no training is available for this exam. So an MS-900 course or MS-900 training sold today prepares you for something you cannot sit. Microsoft 365 Fundamentals training aimed at a live credential should follow the AB-900 study guide instead — and check its version, because Microsoft updates AB-900’s English version on 14 October 2026.
The Microsoft 365 Fundamentals study guide for MS-900 remains online with its retirement notice. It is the final MS-900 syllabus — four skill areas, skills measured as of 30 April 2025 — and is worth keeping as a record of what your certification covered.

MS-900 exam cost and vouchers
The MS-900 exam cost is no longer shown: the retired certification page states no price, and we do not repeat historical figures from third-party sites. An MS-900 exam voucher cannot be used to sit MS-900 any more, because the exam itself can no longer be taken; if you hold a Microsoft exam voucher, check its own terms for which exams it covers.
For the live fundamentals exam AB-900, Microsoft states only that the price is based on the country or region in which the exam is proctored.

Is MS-900 worth it now?
If you already hold it: yes, it still counts as what it always was — a beginner-level certification that stays on your transcript and does not expire. If you do not hold it: it is no longer available, so the question has moved on to whether the current Microsoft 365 fundamentals exam is worth it for you.
The Microsoft 365 Fundamentals certification exam that Microsoft Learn lists today, AB-900, assesses Microsoft 365 core features, data protection and governance for Microsoft 365 and Copilot, and basic administrative tasks for Copilot and agents. If that matches your work, it is the relevant exam; if you wanted MS-900 for its licensing and apps focus, compare the AB-900 skills before you commit.
