How much is the NCLEX exam?
How much is the NCLEX-RN exam depends on where you seek licensure. The NCLEX exam cost is the registration fee; NCSBN lists one registration fee per country of licensure, not separate fees for the RN and the PN exam.
- US licensure: US$200 (US$350 from February 1, 2027)
- Australian licensure: US$200 (US$350 from February 1, 2027)
- Canadian licensure or registration: CA$360, excluding local taxes (CA$570 from February 1, 2027)

NCLEX fees beyond the registration fee
Several NCLEX fees can come on top. For US licensure, NCSBN lists:
- International scheduling fee: US$150, plus VAT where applicable, if you test at a center outside the US; not refundable
- Changing your nursing regulatory body after registration: US$50
- Changing exam type between RN and PN after registration: US$50
- Licensure fee: set by your nursing regulatory body, not by NCSBN

The 2027 NCLEX-RN fees increase
NCSBN’s Delegate Assembly voted to adjust the NCLEX-RN fees, and NCSBN announced the change on August 21, 2026. Effective February 1, 2027, registration costs US$350 in the United States and Australia and CA$570 in Canada.
If you finish your program around the turn of the year, the date you register determines whether you pay US$200 or US$350, so check the fee page before you pay.

How much does it cost to take the NCLEX again?
There are no refunds of registration fees for any reason, including duplicate registrations, missing the 24-hour cancellation deadline or not showing up. Each new attempt needs a new registration, so the NCLEX-RN cost of a retake is the full registration fee again.
You also pay again if you do not test within the dates of your Authorization to Test, or if you are turned away at the test center because your ID does not meet the requirements. Payment is by Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit, debit or prepaid card.

NCLEX bootcamp price and review course costs
The NCLEX bootcamp price is not part of the NCLEX cost that NCSBN sets. NCSBN does not recommend or endorse any review courses or study materials and publishes no prices for them; boot camps and review courses are sold by independent providers at their own prices.
When you budget, separate the fixed costs (registration fee, licensure fee, possibly an international scheduling fee) from optional preparation costs, and compare preparation on what it includes: coverage of the 2026 test plan, case studies, and explanations for every answer.
