Is the Tableau Desktop Specialist certification still available?

Not under that name. Tableau’s certification page now lists five credentials, all branded as Salesforce certifications: Tableau Desktop Foundations, Data Analyst, Server Administrator, Consultant and Architect. The Tableau Desktop Specialist certification is not among them, and Tableau states that its certifications are now part of the Salesforce certification experience.

The clearest signal is Tableau’s own website: the former Desktop Specialist page and the Desktop Specialist exam prep page both redirect to Salesforce material for the Tableau Desktop Foundations exam. If you came here to book the Tableau Desktop Specialist certification exam, Desktop Foundations is the foundational Tableau exam on offer today.

Neither Tableau nor Salesforce states on the pages we checked when the change happened or what it means for people who already hold Desktop Specialist, so we do not claim either.

Tableau Desktop Foundations exam: the current format

The Salesforce Certified Tableau Desktop Foundations exam has 40 multiple-choice and multiple-select items, plus up to five unscored questions that do not affect your result. You have 70 minutes. The passing score is 48% for the English version and 55% for the Japanese version.

The exam is proctored, either at a testing centre or online. No hard-copy or online materials may be used during the exam, so it tests what you know, not what you can look up.

Cost, retakes and vouchers

The registration fee is US$75 (JPY 10,000), plus taxes where local law requires them. Retakes are free, according to Salesforce’s exam guide.

The exam guide does not describe a voucher programme. If an employer or event provides a voucher, the fee you pay depends on that offer; the list price is the figure above.

What is on the exam? The four sections

Salesforce publishes the exam objectives with weights. The biggest section, Exploring and Analyzing Data at 37%, covers building charts (bar, line, scatter, maps, dual-axis, crosstabs), groups, sets, hierarchies, filters, sorts, reference lines, table calculations, bins and calculated fields.

Connecting to and Preparing Data covers live connections versus extracts, relationships, joins and unions, and data field properties. Sharing Insights covers formatting, dashboards, dashboard actions, stories and exporting. Understanding Tableau Concepts covers dimensions versus measures, discrete versus continuous fields, and aggregation. Salesforce notes that the list is not a comprehensive listing of the exam content.

  • Connecting to and Preparing Data — 23%
  • Exploring and Analyzing Data — 37%
  • Sharing Insights — 25%
  • Understanding Tableau Concepts — 15%

Tableau Desktop Specialist exam guide and prep guide

Anyone looking for the Tableau Desktop Specialist exam guide or the Tableau Desktop Specialist exam prep guide will now land on Salesforce’s exam guide for Tableau Desktop Foundations — Tableau’s old prep page redirects there. That guide is the official document to study from: it lists the audience, the format, the passing score and every objective above.

The guide describes the intended candidate as someone with foundational Tableau Desktop skills and typically at least three months of experience applying them. There are no prerequisites.

Tableau Desktop Specialist certification training

Salesforce recommends a combination of hands-on experience, a training course, Trailhead trails and self-study. The course it names is Desktop I: Fundamentals, offered through Trailhead Academy, its expert-led training arm. That is the closest successor to what was sold as Tableau Desktop Specialist certification training.

For self-study, the guide lists free how-to training videos, Tableau product help and support, and the Visual Analysis Best Practices guidebook. No course is required; the hands-on experience matters more, because most objectives ask you to create or configure something in Tableau Desktop.

Practice questions and how to pass

To pass, you need 48% on the English version, with 70 minutes for 40 scored items and no reference material allowed. The best practice is building the chart types and dashboard actions from the objectives yourself, then testing yourself with practice questions that mirror the four weighted sections.

Salesforce’s exam guide does not include an official practice test, so practice question sets come from elsewhere. Make sure any set you use covers Desktop Foundations objectives, not the older Desktop Specialist outline.

Tableau Desktop Specialist dumps PDF

Files sold as a Tableau Desktop Specialist dumps PDF are risky twice over. They cover a credential that is no longer listed, and Salesforce requires certification candidates to agree not to distribute, use or request exam dumps. Salesforce warns that dumps can contain inaccurate and outdated information and says violations can lead to a revoked exam, revocation of certifications already awarded and a permanent ban from the programme.

Is it worth it? Salary and next steps

Neither Tableau nor Salesforce publishes a salary figure for this certification, and this page does not invent one. Whether Desktop Foundations is worth it depends on your goal: it proves foundational Tableau Desktop skills at a low US$75 fee with free retakes and, at present, no required maintenance.

On Tableau’s current list, the next step up is the Salesforce Certified Tableau Data Analyst, at the advanced level.
