The Official ACT Prep Guide

The Official ACT Prep Guide is written by the makers of the test. ACT’s page lists the 2026 to 2027 edition with four practice tests that reflect the current ACT format, clear explanations for every answer, tips for English, math and reading, and advice on preparing mentally and physically for test day.

ACT also sells targeted subject guides, in new editions for 2026 to 2027, each with an access code for one year of an online question bank, and an all-in-one prep guide with four practice tests in the latest format. If you want a single ACT test prep book, the official prep guide is the one that comes from ACT itself.

The Official ACT Prep Guide 2025-2026 or 2026-2027?

If you are searching for The Official ACT Prep Guide 2025-2026, note that ACT’s own page now shows the 2026 to 2027 edition, which ACT says reflects the current ACT format. We could not check the content of the older edition on ACT’s site, so this page makes no claims about it. Buy the edition ACT currently lists if you are testing in the 2026 to 2027 school year.

How to study for the ACT test

Start with one full official practice test under timed conditions and score it with ACT’s key. That baseline tells you which section costs you the most points, and that is where your first weeks go.

Then study for ACT test day in cycles: learn the content for one weak category, practise questions on it, and retest with a timed section. ACT’s own strategy advice is to pace yourself, answer the easier questions first, eliminate wrong answers, and answer every question, because there is no penalty for guessing.

In the final weeks, take full practice tests at the same time of day as your test, with the calculator you will bring. Review every miss, including lucky guesses.

Practice questions alongside the study guide

A study guide has a fixed number of practice tests; once you have used them, you need fresh questions. Certsqill’s ACT practice questions are expert-developed, explain every answer option and build a readiness score per section, so you know when you are ready to book.
