CCSP study guide: outline, materials and exam prep
The CCSP exam is three hours, 100 to 150 items, and 700 out of 1,000 to pass. ISC2 revised the exam outline from 1 August 2026, which matters more for your choice of study material than any edition number on a cover. This guide covers what ISC2 itself provides, how to judge a CCSP study guide, and how to structure your preparation.

Start with the ISC2 CCSP exam outline
Every CCSP study guide is, at best, a commentary on one document: ISC2’s CCSP Certification Exam Outline. ISC2 itself describes the outline as a roadmap for building a targeted study plan, and it is the only document that defines what the exam covers.
ISC2 announced on 30 June 2026 that a new CCSP exam outline would be in place beginning 1 August 2026. The outline page, as checked today, carries that date and lists the six domains:
- Domain 1: Cloud Concepts, Architecture and Design
- Domain 2: Cloud Data Security
- Domain 3: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure Security
- Domain 4: Cloud Application Security
- Domain 5: Cloud Security Operations
- Domain 6: Legal, Risk and Compliance

What ISC2 offers as CCSP study material
ISC2’s own self-study page for CCSP lists five resources: the exam outline, Official ISC2 Online Self-Paced Training, free interactive flash cards for terminology drills, the ISC2 Chapters community, and the ISC2 Study Hub with training tips and study methods.
The Online Self-Paced Training is the most complete piece of official CCSP study material. ISC2 lists interactive content, pre- and post-course assessments, knowledge checks and end-of-domain quizzes, online flash cards, and an Official ISC2 CCSP Study Questions eBook, with 90- or 180-day access from the date of purchase.

Choosing among CCSP study guides
The most searched book is the one titled ISC2 CCSP Certified Cloud Security Professional Official Study Guide. Note what ISC2’s own CCSP self-study page does and does not say: as checked on 9 October 2026, it lists the resources above and does not name a study guide or an edition. So whichever book you pick, judge it the same way.
- Was it written for the outline in force from 1 August 2026? A book that predates the revision may still cover much of the ground, but it cannot reflect what changed.
- Does it follow the six domains as ISC2 names them, so you can map every chapter back to the outline?
- Does it explain why wrong answers are wrong, not just which answer is right? The exam uses advanced item types, where partial understanding does not score.

The CCSP official study guide, 4th edition, and PDFs
Many searches are for a specific edition — the CCSP official study guide 4th edition PDF in particular. Two things to keep in mind. First, the edition number tells you less than the outline date: check whether the edition you are looking at was written for the 1 August 2026 outline. Second, a free PDF of a commercial book is an unlicensed copy unless the publisher provides it, and old editions circulate precisely because they are out of date.
If you already own an earlier edition, it is not worthless: use it alongside the current outline and fill the gaps from ISC2’s own resources.

CCSP exam prep: a domain-by-domain plan
Good CCSP exam prep is organised around the six domains rather than around the chapters of one book. A workable structure:
- Read the outline once end to end and mark every objective as known, shaky or new.
- Work through one domain at a time with your main study guide, then test yourself on that domain before moving on.
- Drill terminology with ISC2’s free flash cards — cloud-security vocabulary across six domains is a lot to hold.
- Revisit the domains you scored weakest in, rather than rereading the ones you already know.
- Finish with timed practice: three hours for 100 to 150 items, so pacing should not be new on the day.

What the exam asks of you
ISC2 states the CCSP exam as 100 to 150 multiple-choice and advanced item types in three hours, offered in English, Chinese, German and Japanese. You need a scaled score of at least 700 out of 1,000 to pass — a scaled score, not a percentage of questions.
For test prep, that has one clear consequence: memorising facts is not enough. Scenario-based and order-response items reward understanding why one control or approach fits a situation better than another.
