Certified fraud examiner salary: what ACFE reports
The ACFE publishes a Compensation Guide for Anti-Fraud Professionals. The current edition is based on its 2024 Global Salary Survey, which analysed compensation data provided by Certified Fraud Examiners and ACFE associate members.
Its headline findings: in 2024, CFEs with a four-year degree reported earning US$101,000 per year, and median compensation for CFEs with a graduate degree was US$112,000. ACFE states that CFEs continue to receive higher wages than their non-certified colleagues and puts that premium at 32%.
Two cautions apply. The survey is run by the body that issues the credential, and respondents choose to answer, so it describes ACFE’s membership rather than the whole labour market. And a global median mixes countries, sectors and seniority levels. Use the CFE certification salary figures as context, not as a quote for a specific role.

Certified fraud examiner jobs: where to look
Jobs for certified fraud examiner holders sit mostly inside those four families rather than under a single job title, so search by role — forensic accountant, fraud investigator, internal auditor, compliance analyst — as well as by the credential. The ACFE runs its own Career Center job board with anti-fraud and accounting listings.
For certified fraud examiner jobs near me, add your city or region to the search; whether a given certified fraud examiner job is remote, hybrid or on site is set by the employer in each listing. A search for certified fraud examiner jobs remote works the same way: read each listing rather than assuming either way.
Jobs with CFE certification and CFE certification jobs are therefore best found by combining the credential with a role and a place. ACFE does not publish how many listings require the CFE outright.

Is certified fraud examiner worth it?
It depends on where your work sits. If fraud prevention, detection or investigation is a large part of your job — or the job you want — the CFE is the credential built for exactly that, and ACFE’s own survey reports a pay premium for holders.
The cost side is clear: a US$480 exam fee, required ACFE membership, annual CPE, and preparation time for three sections. If fraud is only a small part of your work, a credential in your main field may do more for you.

Is the CFE exam worth it compared with the effort?
The effort is concrete: 310 questions across three sections, 75% needed in each, all within a 60-day window. A failed section costs US$110 to retake, and you have up to five attempts per section, so one bad sitting is not fatal.
