How much does it cost to take the GRE in total?
For most candidates the answer is the registration fee alone. Four free score recipients are included with your test fee, and the GRE Diagnostic Service in your ETS account has no fee. If you apply to more than four programs, each additional score report costs US$40 per recipient.
Retakes are possible once every 21 days, up to five times in any rolling 12 months. The fees page lists no reduced retake fee, so budget each attempt as a new registration.

GRE Fee Reduction Program
Test takers who receive a GRE Fee Reduction voucher pay US$100 for the General Test and also get free access to GRE prep materials that ETS values at US$100. The program is for people who can demonstrate financial need, unemployed people receiving unemployment compensation, current Peace Corps volunteers and participants in certain national programs.
Vouchers are generally requested with the GRE Fee Reduction Request form, and ETS emails the voucher number within two weeks of approval, so apply well before you want to book.

Refunds and changes
The fees page does not state refund terms; ETS refers to the GRE Information Bulletin for payment and refund policies. Read it before you book if your date might move, because a reschedule or a change of test center each carries its own fee.
Before you pay for a seat, check your readiness. Certsqill’s GRE question bank has expert-developed questions, an explanation for every answer option and a readiness score per measure.
