DP-700 is the one exam you pass to earn Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate. What is the DP-700 certification?
There is no certificate called “DP-700” as such: DP-700 is the exam code, and passing it earns Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate. People say “DP-700 certification” or “Microsoft DP-700 certification” for short, and the two are often written together as Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700); Microsoft’s full name for the Microsoft certified Fabric data engineer associate certification is the one above. The exam is titled Implementing Data Engineering Solutions Using Microsoft Fabric.
Microsoft describes the candidate as someone with subject matter expertise in data loading patterns, data architectures and orchestration processes, who ingests and transforms data, secures and manages an analytics solution, and monitors and optimises it. You should be skilled with SQL, PySpark and KQL. The level is intermediate, and Microsoft lists no prerequisite certification.
Searches for a Microsoft Fabric data engineer certification or an Azure Fabric data engineer certification lead to the same credential. Microsoft Fabric is its own product, and this is the Microsoft Fabric data engineer associate certification for it; there is no separate Azure-branded version.

The DP-700 exam: format, length and passing score
The Microsoft certified Fabric data engineer associate exam DP-700 gives you 100 minutes. Microsoft’s exam duration page lists 120 minutes of seat time for associate exams without labs, which covers instructions and the candidate agreement as well.
Microsoft does not publish the number of questions for DP-700. It says most of its exams have 40 to 60 questions, that the number varies by exam, and that it does not reveal specific question types beforehand. The DP-700 exam page adds that you may have interactive components to complete.
To pass you need a score of 700 or greater. The exam is proctored and scheduled through Pearson VUE, either online at home or in the office, or at a test center. It is offered in English, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), German, French, Italian, Korean, Spanish and Portuguese (Brazil).

DP-700 exam cost and vouchers
Microsoft does not print one price on the DP-700 page; it says the price depends on the country or region where the exam is proctored. Its exam FAQ gives the reference point: associate and expert exams typically cost US$165, priced according to local currency values, and additional taxes may apply in some places.
On vouchers, Microsoft’s offers page lists Exam Replay, a package with one exam voucher and one retake of the same exam, and points students to academic pricing. That offers page was last updated in 2023, so confirm availability when you schedule. A retake outside such a package is paid again.

DP-700 skills measured (the syllabus)
Microsoft publishes the DP-700 syllabus as skills measured in its study guide. From 19 October 2026, three areas carry 30–35% each, so no single area dominates and none can be skipped.
The change log for the 19 October 2026 update marks two sub-areas — configuring Microsoft Fabric workspace settings and optimising performance — as minor changes. The audience profile is unchanged. If you sit the exam in another language, Microsoft says localised versions are updated about eight weeks after the English one.

DP-700 study guide, training and courses
The official DP-700 study guide is Microsoft’s own, linked from the certification page. It lists every skill measured, the change log and the preparation resources, and it is the document to check any other material against.
For DP-700 training, Microsoft points to two routes: self-paced learning paths and modules on Microsoft Learn, or an instructor-led course. Whichever course you choose, check that it covers all three skill areas as of the 19 October 2026 update and gives you hands-on time with SQL, PySpark and KQL in Fabric.
Good exam prep also includes the exam sandbox, which Microsoft offers so you can experience the look and feel of the exam interface before the real one.

DP-700 practice test and exam questions
Microsoft offers a free DP-700 practice assessment on the certification page. Its exam FAQ says practice assessments are free for every learner and can be taken as many times as you want; you sign in with a Microsoft Learn profile. Practice assessments give an overview of the style, wording and difficulty of the questions.
Use the official DP-700 practice test to find weak areas, then go back to the study guide. DP-700 questions from the practice assessment are written to the exam’s skills, which makes them a better yardstick than DP-700 exam questions of unknown origin.

DP-700 dumps: what Microsoft says
DP-700 dumps are not a gray area for Microsoft. Its exam security policy defines a brain dump as a source containing exam questions that were fraudulently obtained, and states that using such material to prepare for an exam constitutes cheating. Microsoft lists using brain dump sites to prepare as an example of fraudulent activity.
The consequences are spelled out: a candidate may be permanently banned from future Microsoft credentials and have certifications and scores revoked. DP-700 exam dumps — or a DP-700 exam dumps PDF — therefore risk the certification you are trying to earn, and with an update on 19 October 2026 they are likely to be outdated as well.

Retakes and renewal
If you fail, Microsoft’s retake policy makes you wait 24 hours before the second attempt and 14 days between later attempts, with at most five attempts in 12 months. You pay for each retake, if applicable.
Once you pass, the certification expires annually. Renewal is free: you pass an online renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn, without sitting the proctored exam again.

DP-700 vs DP-600, and salary
The Microsoft Fabric certification DP-700 has a sibling, DP-600. DP-700 is for data engineers: loading patterns, orchestration, batch and streaming data, with SQL, PySpark and KQL. DP-600, Implementing Analytics Solutions Using Microsoft Fabric, earns Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate and is weighted towards preparing data (45–50%) and semantic models, with SQL, KQL and DAX. If your work ends at the data pipeline, DP-700 fits; if it ends at the semantic model and report, DP-600 does.
Microsoft does not publish a salary for this certification, so no salary figure is given here.
