PMI-ACP training and courses: meeting the 21-hour requirement

For PMI-ACP, training is not optional: PMI requires 21 hours of formal training in agile practices, frameworks and methodologies before you can apply. PMI accepts three routes — its own prep course, a course from a PMI Authorized Training Partner, or third-party training — so the real question is which one gives you the hours and prepares you for the exam.

PMI-ACP certification training: what PMI requires

PMI states that you need 21 hours of formal training in agile practices, frameworks and methodologies, via one of these routes:

  • The PMI Authorized PMI-ACP Exam Prep Course
  • An Authorized Training Partner prep course
  • Third-party training courses

PMI’s own course: the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) Exam Prep Course

PMI’s course is titled PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) Exam Prep Course. PMI describes it as a self-paced, online course with a duration of 21 hours, worth 21 PDUs, that “aligns to the ACP Exam Content Outline and satisfies the 21 training hours required to apply for the ACP certification”.

The course includes directed multimedia content, a guided review of Exam Content Outline references, and structured independent study activities. The store page does not mention practice exams, and on 9 October 2026 it showed no price. As a PMI-ACP online course it is the most direct way to be sure the hours count.

Instructor-led PMI-ACP training: online or in person

If you prefer a live class, PMI points to instructor-led training “online or in-person, with a PMI Authorized Training Partner”, describing it as a choice for “structured guidance, real-time interaction, and accountability”.

Live PMI-ACP online training has fixed session times like a classroom; self-paced PMI-ACP training online fits around work but needs your own schedule. Both count towards the 21 hours if they come through one of PMI’s accepted routes.

Choosing a PMI-ACP boot camp

A PMI-ACP boot camp packs the training into a few intensive days. It suits people who want the hours done quickly, but the speed only helps if the course passes a few checks. Before you book a PMI Agile Certified Practitioner boot camp, confirm:

  • It delivers at least 21 hours of agile training — the full requirement, not most of it.
  • It is one of PMI’s accepted routes: the PMI course, an Authorized Training Partner, or a third-party course you can document.
  • It follows the current Examination Content Outline, dated November 2024, across Mindset (28%), Leadership (25%), Product (19%) and Delivery (28%).
  • It includes practice with multiple-response, drag-and-drop-style items and exhibits, not only lectures.

How to compare PMI-ACP courses

PMI-ACP courses differ mainly in format, pace and how much practice they include. Whatever you choose, a PMI-ACP training course should map onto the Examination Content Outline, because that is what PMI tests. A PMI-ACP certification course that teaches one framework in depth but skips the Product domain leaves almost a fifth of the exam uncovered.

A PMI-ACP certification training course is also only the start of the bill: the exam fee is separate and subject to membership and regional pricing, and you will need 30 PDUs every three years to keep the credential. If a PMI Agile Certified Practitioner bootcamp bundles extras, compare it on what it includes rather than on the headline price.

PMI agile training beyond PMI-ACP

People searching for a PMI agile certification or a PMI agile project management certification often land on PMI-ACP first, but PMI’s Disciplined Agile certifications page lists four more: Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM), Disciplined Agile Senior Scrum Master (DASSM), Disciplined Agile Coach (DAC) and Disciplined Agile Value Stream Consultant (DAVSC).

PMI-ACP itself is framework-agnostic and requires agile experience (or a PMP) before you can apply. A PMI agile certificate from a course alone is not the same as the certification, which requires passing PMI’s exam.

After the PMI-ACP prep course

A course gives you the hours; practice shows whether you are ready for 120 items in 180 minutes. Certsqill’s PMI-ACP question bank is expert-developed, explains each answer option and shows a readiness score per domain.

PMI-ACP training & courses: questions people ask

How many hours of PMI-ACP training do I need?

21 hours of formal training in agile practices, frameworks and methodologies. Source: PMI PMI-ACP certification page, checked 9 October 2026.

Does PMI’s PMI-ACP online training count towards the requirement?

Yes. PMI states that its self-paced PMI-ACP Exam Prep Course satisfies the 21 training hours required to apply. Source: PMI, checked 9 October 2026.

Can I take a PMI-ACP online course from a provider that is not PMI?

PMI accepts third-party training courses as one of the three routes, alongside its own course and Authorized Training Partner courses.

Is a PMI-ACP bootcamp enough to pass?

A boot camp gives you the hours and structure; whether you pass depends on how well you handle the four domains under exam conditions. Practise with questions that explain every option before you book.

Is a PMI agile certificate from a course the same as PMI-ACP?

No. Completing training meets the 21-hour requirement; the PMI-ACP certification requires passing PMI’s exam after your application is approved.
