ServiceNow CSA study guide: what to study, in what order, and how to prepare
The best ServiceNow CSA study guide is the one ServiceNow publishes: the CSA exam blueprint, version 11.0, updated January 2026. It lists six weighted domains and states that exam questions are based on official ServiceNow training materials and the ServiceNow product documentation. This page turns that blueprint into a study plan — and covers the shorter delta exam you face every year afterwards.

The ServiceNow CSA exam study guide is the blueprint
ServiceNow does not publish a separate book-length guide for the CSA. What it publishes is the blueprint, and that is the ServiceNow CSA exam study guide in practice: it sets the six domains, their weights and the topics within them, the question types and the exam rules.
Its scope statement is the most useful line for planning. Questions are based on official ServiceNow training materials and the ServiceNow product documentation — so material outside those two sources is, at best, a second opinion.
- Database Management and Platform Security — 30%
- Configuring Applications for Collaboration — 20%
- Self Service & Automation — 20%
- Data Migration and Integration — 13%
- Instance Configuration — 10%
- Platform Overview and Navigation — 7%

ServiceNow CSA exam prep: a domain-by-domain plan
Start with the largest domain. Database management and platform security carries 30% of the exam: the data schema, access control, importing data, CMDB and CSDM, Security Center and the shared responsibility model. If you are short on time, this is where an extra week pays off most.
Then take the two 20% domains together. Configuring applications for collaboration covers lists, filters and tags, forms, Visual Task Boards, Platform Analytics, notifications and knowledge management; self service and automation covers the Service Catalog, Workflow Studio and Virtual Agent.
Finish with the smaller domains — data migration and integration, which includes UI policies, business rules, update sets and scripting, then instance configuration and Next Experience navigation. Small weights still add up: together these three are 30% of the exam.

ServiceNow CSA exam preparation: practising the format
The exam consists of 60 questions in 90 minutes, taken at a Pearson test center or online with OnVUE. That is 90 seconds per question, which is generous for recall and tight for a scenario you have never configured yourself.
Two details should shape your ServiceNow CSA exam preparation. Multiple select questions tell you how many answers to choose, and partial credit is not provided — two right out of three scores nothing. And the cut score is not publicly shared; ServiceNow says it is not always 70%. Practise until you are comfortably above any assumed line rather than aiming at one.
Hands-on time in an instance is the other half. The blueprint recommends three to six months of experience using or maintaining a ServiceNow instance, and many questions are easiest to answer if you have made the configuration change yourself.

What not to study from
ServiceNow’s exam security policies list requesting or using “brain dumps” among prohibited conduct, together with sharing or reproducing exam content before, during or after the exam. The stated consequences include exam invalidation, revocation of credentials and a ban from future exams.
Beyond the rules, leaked question collections are a poor study guide on their own terms: you cannot tell whether an answer is right or which blueprint version it belongs to. Study the blueprint topics instead, and test yourself with questions that explain why each option is right or wrong.

ServiceNow CSA delta exam study guide
Passing the CSA is not the end. ServiceNow requires every mainline certification holder to complete an annual maintenance exam, called a delta, to keep the certification current. ServiceNow’s credentialing guide describes it as online, unproctored and on demand, with 6 to 20 questions that take 10 to 30 minutes, available once a year during a 90-day window.
For each delta there is an official study guide in the ServiceNow University Help Center, under Credentials → Delta Exam Study Guides. ServiceNow says it covers new or refined practices, common configuration or usage challenges, and refresher topics from the original certification — so a ServiceNow CSA delta exam study guide is narrower than the original blueprint, but it is not only about new features.
Timing matters more than difficulty. ServiceNow warns that if you fail and need another attempt after the window ends, you will not be allowed to retake it and the certification expires; you would then have to register, pay for and pass the full proctored exam again. The 2026 window ran from 16 January to 16 April 2026; ServiceNow says the January 2027 date will be announced closer to the time. You do not need to take the delta for the same release in which you passed the exam.

Checking your readiness
The score report after the real exam shows your percentage per blueprint section, which is useful for a retake but late for planning. The better moment to find the weak domain is before you register.
Certsqill’s ServiceNow CSA question bank carries expert-developed questions with an explanation for every answer option and a readiness score per blueprint domain, with a 7-day money-back guarantee.
