ServiceNow certification training: who offers the official courses

ServiceNow’s Credentialing Program Guide is explicit about where official ServiceNow certification training comes from: it is only offered by ServiceNow or a ServiceNow Authorized Training Partner (ATP). All of it runs through ServiceNow University, the learning platform where you also register for the exam.

ServiceNow University offers three formats: on-demand courses at your own pace, live classes led by certified instructors, and hands-on simulators. When you finish training with an Authorized Training Partner, the partner reports your completion to ServiceNow, your transcript is updated, and a voucher is issued where applicable — ServiceNow warns this can take five to seven days.

ServiceNow CSA training: the two recommended courses

For the CSA, the blueprint names two courses: Welcome to ServiceNow and ServiceNow Administration Fundamentals. Together they are the ServiceNow CSA training ServiceNow itself points to, and they map onto the exam’s six domains — from platform navigation and instance configuration to database management, platform security and data migration.

Any ServiceNow CSA certification training you consider should be measured against that blueprint. It weights Database Management and Platform Security at 30% of the exam, Configuring Applications for Collaboration and Self Service & Automation at 20% each, Data Migration and Integration at 13%, Instance Configuration at 10% and Platform Overview and Navigation at 7%. A course that spends most of its time on navigation is spending it on the smallest domain.

ServiceNow system administrator training: what experience it should give you

The blueprint recommends three to six months of experience using or maintaining a ServiceNow instance, industry experience with database concepts and system management, and a system administrator role or access to ServiceNow’s administrative applications and modules. Good ServiceNow system administrator training closes the gap between that profile and where you are now.

Choosing a ServiceNow CSA course: on-demand or instructor-led

A ServiceNow CSA course comes in two official shapes. On-demand learning in ServiceNow University fits people who already work in an instance and need structure; a live class led by a certified instructor fits people who want questions answered as they go.

The deciding factor is often the exam fee. ServiceNow states that completing instructor-led training includes one free exam attempt, while the CSA exam on its own is $300 USD. When you complete recommended instructor-led or on-demand training, the related exam appears automatically on your ServiceNow University dashboard under My Exams, ready to register.

• Does it include hands-on work in an instance, not only video?

Is a ServiceNow certification free?

No — the exam has a price, even though some of the learning does not. ServiceNow lists free on-demand training among the advantages of ServiceNow University, so a large part of the preparation can cost nothing. The CSA exam itself is $300 USD, payable by credit card or learning credits, and exam fees are non-refundable.

The closest thing to a free ServiceNow certification is the exam attempt bundled with training: completing instructor-led training includes one free exam attempt. ServiceNow also notes that discounted exam pricing may be available through your company benefits, so check with your employer before paying yourself.

Keeping the certification is not free either. ServiceNow charges an annual Certification Maintenance Program fee of USD $200 per individual, plus applicable tax, which covers all of your active mainline certifications at once.

Is there a ServiceNow certification course you must take first?

No. ServiceNow’s exam requirements state that the CSA exam has no prerequisites, so you can register without having completed any ServiceNow certification course. ServiceNow does describe training as highly recommended, and the blueprint’s statement that questions are based on official training materials is the practical reason why.

Once you register, you have 90 days to schedule and complete the exam at a Pearson test center or online with OnVUE. Plan the course first and register when you are close to ready — if the 90 days run out, the registration expires and you pay again.

After the course: practice under exam conditions

A course teaches the platform; the exam tests whether you can pick the right answer in 90 minutes across 60 questions, including multiple select questions where partial credit is not provided. ServiceNow’s guide lists an official, exam-aligned practice test for the CSA, sold separately through a practice-test partner and not required for the exam.
