What is the SnowPro Specialty Gen AI certification?
The SnowPro Specialty Gen AI certification validates specialised knowledge, skills and best practices for using generative AI methods inside Snowflake. It belongs to Snowflake’s Specialty tier, next to credentials such as SnowPro Specialty: Snowpark, and is aimed at practitioners rather than newcomers to the platform.
Snowflake describes three things a certified candidate can do: define and implement Snowflake Gen AI principles, capabilities and best practices; use Snowflake Cortex AI features, LLMs and related offerings to meet customer use cases; and build open-source models with Snowpark Container Services and the Snowflake Model Registry.

SnowPro Gen AI exam update: Document AI removed from 1 March 2026
Snowflake’s exam page lists the SnowPro Specialty: Gen AI exam as GES-C01 and states that an updated exam excluding Document AI content would be live from 1 March 2026. Anyone sitting the exam now takes the updated version.
For preparation that matters in one direct way: material built for the original exam can spend time on Document AI, which the current version no longer covers. Check the version shown in the official study guide and at registration, and drop Document AI from your plan unless the guide still lists it.

SnowPro Gen AI exam cost, questions and passing score
Snowflake’s certification page for this exam does not show a price, a question count, a time limit or a passing score; these details sit in the official study guide linked from that page and in the registration flow. We do not repeat figures we could not confirm on Snowflake’s own pages.
One cost rule is published in the SnowPro Program Policies: every exam attempt requires the full exam fee. Retakes are not discounted, so a failed first attempt doubles the cost of the certification.

What is on the SnowPro Specialty: Gen AI exam?
Snowflake frames the exam around three capability areas. Read them as a map of the Snowflake AI stack rather than a list of definitions — each one assumes you have built something with it.
- Snowflake Gen AI principles, capabilities and best practices — what the platform offers and how to apply it responsibly
- Cortex AI features and LLMs — choosing and using Snowflake’s managed AI functions and models for customer use cases
- Open-source models — building and running them with Snowpark Container Services and managing them in the Snowflake Model Registry

Who should take the SnowPro Gen AI exam?
Snowflake recommends one or more years of Gen AI experience with Snowflake in an enterprise environment. It also states that Python coding experience helps and that prior knowledge of data engineering and SQL is assumed.
Snowflake’s exam page does not list a prerequisite certification. Confirm in the official study guide before you register, since requirements can change with a new exam version.
The bar is similar to the Snowpark specialty, where Snowflake recommends a year of hands-on Snowpark experience in production. Both are designed for people who already ship work on the platform.

How the exam is delivered and how retakes work
SnowPro exams are delivered through Pearson VUE. You can sit them at one of more than 1,000 testing centres worldwide or remotely at home with a virtual proctor.
If you fail, Snowflake’s policies require a seven-day wait before the next attempt, and the same wait applies after every further failure. You can retake a given exam up to four times in a 12-month period. Once you pass, you cannot retake the same exam.

How long is the SnowPro Gen AI certification valid?
All Snowflake certifications expire two years after the credential award date. Plan renewal into your calendar from the day you pass, because an expired credential has to be earned again.

Official SnowPro Gen AI study materials
Start with Snowflake’s own study guide, linked from the exam page. It is the document that defines the current exam version, and it is the place to confirm format details.
Snowflake also offers an official Practice Exam: Gen AI. According to Snowflake, its practice exams are built to the same specifications and domain weightings as the live SnowPro exams, which makes them a useful calibration check late in your preparation.
For broader skills, Snowflake runs a one-day instructor-led Snowflake GenAI Training course with lectures, demos and labs. Snowflake’s course page does not tie it to this certification, so treat it as background rather than exam prep.

SnowPro Gen AI vs SnowPro Specialty: Snowpark
Both are Specialty credentials with a practitioner bar: Snowflake recommends a year or more of real work for each — Gen AI work with Snowflake in an enterprise for this exam, hands-on Snowpark experience in production for the Snowpark one.
The difference is the job you do. The Gen AI exam is built around Cortex AI, LLM use cases and running open-source models with Snowpark Container Services and the Model Registry. If your daily work is Snowpark development rather than AI use cases, the Snowpark specialty is the closer fit; if you build AI features for the business on Snowflake, Gen AI matches what you do.

SnowPro Gen AI practice questions
Certsqill’s SnowPro Gen AI practice questions are expert-developed and organised around the exam’s capability areas. Every question explains each answer option, so you learn why a given Cortex function, container setup or registry step is right and why the alternatives fall short.
Your readiness score is broken down per domain, which shows whether Cortex AI, open-source model deployment or platform best practices needs more work before you pay for an attempt. Certsqill comes with a 7-day money-back guarantee.
