How much does AZ-900 cost?
Microsoft lists the AZ-900 exam at $99 USD, with the price based on the country or region in which the exam is proctored. The training and Microsoft’s practice assessment are free, there is no renewal fee, and the only other cost to plan for is a retake if you need one.

Azure Fundamentals certification cost: the exam fee
The Azure Fundamentals certification cost is the AZ-900 exam fee and nothing else that Microsoft requires. Microsoft’s certification page shows $99 USD, with the note “Price based on the country or region in which the exam is proctored.” Because Microsoft prices the exam by the country or region where you sit it, the amount you pay can differ from $99.
Microsoft lists no other fee for the certification and names no prerequisites: pass the exam and the certification is yours.

What is free
Several parts of the preparation cost nothing. Microsoft states that “Microsoft Learn training is free”, which covers the self-paced Introduction to Cloud Infrastructure learning paths for AZ-900. Microsoft’s practice assessment is free and can be repeated as often as you like, and the study guide is a public page.
The one cost you might meet during preparation is Azure itself: Microsoft states that Learn sandboxes are no longer available, so hands-on exercises need an Azure subscription — a free 30-day trial or pay-as-you-go.

How an AZ-900 exam voucher works
An AZ-900 voucher is a prepaid exam purchase that you redeem when you schedule the exam, instead of paying the fee at that point.
Microsoft’s own voucher offer is Exam Replay, sold in partnership with Pearson VUE: one Microsoft Certification exam voucher plus one retake of the same exam. Microsoft lists three conditions — both attempts must be scheduled and taken within 12 months of purchase, the retake can only be scheduled after a failed first attempt, and the exams can be taken online. For help redeeming a Microsoft Azure Fundamentals exam voucher, Microsoft refers you to the Pearson VUE team.

Is there an AZ-900 free voucher?
Microsoft’s offers page, checked on 9 October 2026, lists no standing AZ-900 free voucher. The offers it names are Exam Replay and academic pricing for students.
Before you rely on any offer of a free AZ-900 exam voucher, check two things: who issued it and how it is redeemed — Microsoft’s exams are scheduled through Pearson VUE, or Certiport for students and educators — and when it expires.

Student pricing
Microsoft offers academic pricing on certification exams in most countries and regions, except India and China. To get it, you identify yourself as a student in your certification profile and verify your academic status; the discount is then applied when you register. Microsoft does not state the discount amount on that page.
Students and educators also schedule through Certiport rather than Pearson VUE, according to Microsoft’s certification page.

Retakes: the cost of not passing first time
Microsoft’s retake policy states: “You must pay to retake the exam (if applicable.)” After a failed first attempt you wait 24 hours; between later attempts there is a 14-day waiting period, and you can take the same exam at most five times within 12 months of the first attempt.
So the realistic cost range runs from one exam fee to one fee per attempt. Exam Replay is the way to fix a retake’s price in advance. Being ready on the first attempt costs least of all: Certsqill’s AZ-900 practice questions are expert-developed, explain every answer option and show a readiness score per domain, with a 7-day money-back guarantee.

No renewal cost
Microsoft states that “Fundamentals certifications do not expire.” Unlike associate, expert and specialty certifications, which are renewed through a free annual online assessment, Azure Fundamentals has no renewal step at all — so the exam fee is the full lifetime cost of the certification.
