Why you can trust these AZ-900 questions
What is AZ-900?
AZ-900 is the exam code for Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, Microsoft’s beginner-level cloud certification. It proves that you can describe cloud concepts and the core Azure services — compute, networking, storage — plus the tools that secure, govern and administer them. It is a describing certification, not a configuring one.
Microsoft rates it Beginner and names no prerequisites. That is why it is so often the first Microsoft exam people book, and why the Azure Fundamentals name turns up in job adverts as a floor rather than a differentiator.

How much does AZ-900 cost?
Microsoft publishes the figure: $99 USD, with the note that the price is based on the country or region in which the exam is proctored. So the exam costs $99 in the United States and may cost something else where you sit it.
An exam voucher, paid or free, is the same seat bought another way — Microsoft runs offers such as Exam Replay, and student and educator registration goes through Certiport rather than Pearson VUE. Microsoft does not publish a standing discount, so a page promising a fixed voucher price is promising something Microsoft has not.

What is the AZ-900 exam format and passing score?
The AZ-900 passing score is 700. Microsoft states that all technical exam scores are reported on a scale of 1 to 1,000 and that a passing score is 700 or greater — a scaled score, not a percentage of questions answered correctly.
Microsoft gives 45 minutes for the exam in its “Take the exam” section. It publishes no question count, so anyone quoting you a fixed number is quoting something Microsoft does not state.
Is AZ-900 open book? No. Microsoft states the exam is proctored and that it may include interactive components. If you fail, the retake is allowed 24 hours after the first attempt.
Microsoft publishes no pass rate, so the weighting of the three skill areas is the better guide to how hard the exam is.
- Describe cloud concepts — 25–30%
- Describe Azure architecture and services — 35–40%
- Describe Azure management and governance — 30–35%

Where can you find AZ-900 practice questions?
This site holds 1,200 AZ-900 practice questions across the three skill areas. Every question shows all options, which one is correct, and why each of the others is wrong — on a scaled 1,000-point score, the margin usually sits in the answers that looked plausible.
A practice test or mock exam serves one need: meeting Microsoft’s phrasing before exam day.
You can start free. Microsoft runs a free practice assessment of its own on Microsoft Learn; it is a different bank from this one, and there is no reason not to use both.
What you will not find here are AZ-900 dumps. Exam dumps, cheat sheets and files sold as “questions and answers pdf” all mean recycled live exam content. These questions are written against Microsoft’s published study guide instead — the part that stays true when Microsoft rotates its item bank.
Because 700 sits on a scaled range rather than a share of questions, no practice percentage converts into a Microsoft score. What practice can tell you is which of the three skill areas still costs you points.
What AZ-900 study guide and material do you need?
Microsoft publishes its own AZ-900 study guide, and it is the document that defines what is in scope. Microsoft also runs the free Introduction to Cloud Infrastructure course and an exam sandbox that shows the question types before you sit it.
Around that sit books and other study material. They help, but check the edition against the current study guide — Microsoft revises fundamentals content without changing the exam code, and the page itself carries a last-updated date.
How long to study for AZ-900 has no official answer. Microsoft sets no study-hours figure; its own course runs a little over five hours of content, which is a floor rather than a plan.

AZ-900 vs AZ-104, and the other fundamentals exams
AZ-900 vs AZ-104 is a sequence rather than a choice: AZ-900 describes Azure, AZ-104 administers it. One is Beginner, the other is the associate-level administrator exam, and Microsoft sets no requirement to take the first before the second.
Inside the fundamentals family the exams split by subject rather than by level. AZ-900 vs AI-900 is Azure against artificial intelligence; AZ-900 vs DP-900 is Azure against data; AZ-900 vs SC-900 is Azure against security, compliance and identity; AZ-900 vs MS-900 is Azure against Microsoft 365. They overlap on cloud concepts and diverge on everything else.
AZ-900 vs AWS Cloud Practitioner crosses vendors: same idea, same beginner level, different cloud. Which one to sit is a question about which platform you will be working on, not about which exam is harder.

Is AZ-900 worth it?
Microsoft publishes no salary data and no pass rate for AZ-900, so this page states neither.
What Microsoft does publish is the whole price of entry, and it is unusually complete: $99 USD, 45 minutes, no prerequisites, a passing score of 700 out of 1,000, three skill areas with stated weightings, a free practice assessment, a free course and a retake allowed 24 hours after a failed attempt. Whether a beginner-level certification is worth that depends on whether you need the Azure vocabulary on paper.

Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals — one certification, one exam
The Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certification has a formal name, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, and exactly one exam, whose official title is Exam AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals. Pass that exam and you hold the certification — there is no second exam, no application and no experience check. In other words, the Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals exam and AZ-900 are the same thing: if a job advert asks for Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, AZ-900 is the exam you book.
Among Microsoft certifications, AZ-900 is the general entry point to Azure. The other fundamentals exams each cover one subject — AI, data, security or Microsoft 365 — while the AZ-900 Azure certification covers the platform as a whole: cloud concepts, core services, and the tools for cost, governance and monitoring.

Who the Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals certification is for
For a first Microsoft certification, AZ-900 asks the least: Microsoft rates it Beginner and names no prerequisites. Microsoft describes the candidate for the Microsoft Azure AZ-900 certification as a technology professional who wants to demonstrate foundational knowledge of cloud concepts and of Azure, with skills and experience in an area of IT such as infrastructure management, database management or software development, and calls it “a common starting point in a journey towards a career in Azure”.
If you plan to administer or build on Azure, treat your first Microsoft Azure certification, AZ-900, as vocabulary rather than as proof of hands-on skill. Holding the Microsoft AZ-900 certification does not unlock anything formally: an AZ-900 cert is not a prerequisite for the associate-level exams.

AZ-900 syllabus: what the July 2026 outline covers
Microsoft revised the skills measured on 20 July 2026. The study guide is the official AZ-900 syllabus, and it breaks the three weighted areas into smaller groups of objectives. The largest exam topic, AZ-900’s architecture and services area, alone covers core architecture, compute and networking, storage, and identity and security.
Read the outline before you book the AZ-900 test, and again shortly before exam day. Product names change with it — the outline now refers to Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Purview — and material written before an update can describe services under older names.
- Cloud concepts: cloud computing and the shared responsibility model, cloud models and pricing, serverless, the benefits of cloud services, and IaaS, PaaS and SaaS
- Architecture and services: regions, availability zones, resource groups, subscriptions and management groups; compute and networking; storage tiers and redundancy; identity, access and security, including Conditional Access, RBAC, Zero Trust and Microsoft Defender for Cloud
- Management and governance: cost management and the pricing calculator, Azure Policy and resource locks, the portal, Cloud Shell, CLI, PowerShell, Azure Arc and ARM templates, and monitoring with Azure Advisor, Service Health and Azure Monitor

AZ-900 exam registration, step by step
To register for the Microsoft AZ-900 exam, use the schedule button on Microsoft’s certification page. You sign in with your Microsoft Learn profile — Microsoft recommends a personal Microsoft account — and the legal name on that profile must match your ID, otherwise you will not be able to take the exam. Students and educators schedule through Certiport; everyone else schedules through Pearson VUE.
Two limits are worth knowing if you plan the AZ-900 certification exam and a second exam close together: you can have at most two Microsoft Certification exams scheduled at a time, and you cannot schedule more than 90 days in advance. Rescheduling and cancelling are done from the same Learn profile.

Taking the Azure AZ-900 exam online or at a test centre
Pearson VUE delivers the Azure AZ-900 exam online to your home or office in most, but not all, countries and regions, or at a test centre. For an online exam, Microsoft asks you to run the system test on the same computer and in the same location you will use, and to run it again on exam day. You can check in from 30 minutes before until 15 minutes after your appointment time.
The online exam uses facial comparison and recording. If you do not want either, Microsoft’s advice is to book a test centre instead. On the day, the AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals exam itself runs 45 minutes; Microsoft recommends allowing 65 minutes of seat time for the instructions, the candidate agreement and optional comments.

Renewing the Microsoft Azure Fundamentals AZ-900 certification
There is nothing to renew. Microsoft states it in one line: “Fundamentals certifications do not expire.” The free annual renewal assessment applies to Microsoft’s associate, expert and specialty certifications, not to AZ-900.
An Azure Fundamentals cert therefore stays valid without renewal assessments or fees. That changes if you continue to a role-based exam such as AZ-104: those certifications have to be renewed by passing a free online assessment, and each renewal extends the certification by one year.

AZ-900 training, bootcamps and the final exam cram
Microsoft’s own instructor-led training is course AZ-900T00-A: Introduction to Cloud Infrastructure, listed as one day at beginner level, combining lecture, demonstrations and hands-on labs. Microsoft also offers self-paced learning paths on Microsoft Learn. For the AZ-900 fundamentals certification, none of this is mandatory — Microsoft names no required training.
If you consider a paid AZ-900 bootcamp, check three things before you pay: that it follows the skills outline dated 20 July 2026, that it includes hands-on time in the Azure portal rather than slides only, and whether the exam fee is included or comes on top.
An AZ-900 exam cram — a compressed review in the last day or two — works as revision, not as a first pass. It is most useful when it walks through the outline’s objectives one by one and you already know which of the three areas is weakest.

Is AZ900 worth it? Salary and what the certification signals
Microsoft publishes no AZ-900 salary data, so this page states no salary figure. Any number you see quoted comes from surveys outside Microsoft, not from the exam owner.
Is the AZ-900 worth it for you, then? What it costs is fixed and small by certification standards: one exam fee, no renewal, no prerequisites. What it signals is equally specific — that you can describe Azure’s services and how they are governed and paid for. It is worth most where that vocabulary is the gap, and least where an employer is looking for proof that you can build or administer Azure.

If you fail the Azure Fundamentals certification exam
You can retake it 24 hours after the first attempt. If you want a safety net before the first try, Microsoft and Pearson VUE sell Exam Replay: one exam voucher plus one retake of the same exam. Both must be scheduled and taken within 12 months of purchase, the retake can only be booked after a failed first attempt, and the exams can be taken online.
