FE exam prep courses, classes and review courses
NCEES, which writes the FE exam, does not list a prep course of its own: on its exam prep page it sells interactive practice exams for each of the seven FE disciplines at US$50 each. FE exam prep courses and classes come from universities and private providers, so the useful question is how well a course matches the NCEES specification and reference handbook for your discipline.

Is there an NCEES FE exam prep course?
Not on the NCEES pages we checked. Searching for an NCEES FE exam prep course leads to NCEES’s exam prep store, which lists FE interactive practice exams, two volumes per discipline, at US$50 each. NCEES says its prep materials are developed by the same people who create the exams.
The practice exams contain questions and solutions representative of the computer-based exam, with a timed mode, immediate solution review and item specification information, and you can open them as many times as you like. They are practice, not teaching: a course explains the material, a practice exam tells you whether you can apply it.

How to choose an FE exam review course
An FE exam review course or FE exam study course is only as good as its fit with the exam. Before you pay, check these points against NCEES’s own documents:
- Discipline: the course covers your FE discipline, not just a generic engineering review.
- Specification: every knowledge area in the current NCEES specification is taught, weighted roughly like the question ranges.
- Handbook: problems are solved with the NCEES reference handbook, the only reference you will have on screen.
- Calculator: examples use an NCEES-approved model, ideally the one you will bring.
- Practice: timed, computer-based practice, because the real exam gives you 5 hours 20 minutes for 110 questions.

What makes the best FE exam prep course for you
There is no official ranking, and NCEES does not endorse courses on the pages we checked. The best FE exam prep course is the one that closes your gaps. A recent graduate who just finished thermodynamics may only need a short refresher and timed practice; someone ten years out of school usually needs full FE exam prep classes that rebuild mathematics, statics and the discipline core.
Ask the provider for the syllabus mapped to the NCEES knowledge areas and for a sample lesson. If a provider cannot show how its FE exam course maps to the specification, keep looking.

FE exam prep course in person or FE exam classes online
Some universities and engineering societies run an FE exam prep course in person, usually as evening or weekend FE exam classes over several weeks; others run the same FE exam review class live online or self-paced. In person helps if you need a fixed schedule and direct questions to an instructor. Online is easier to fit around work.
Whichever you choose, the exam itself is not online. NCEES administers it only at Pearson test centers, so practise on a computer with the on-screen handbook, as you will on exam day.

Is there an FE exam prep course free of charge?
NCEES lists no free course and no free practice exam on its exam prep page. What every candidate gets from NCEES is the current reference handbook, available from the dashboard of the MyNCEES account, and the published exam specifications. Together they define what you have to know and what you may look up.
Some universities offer review sessions to their own students; ask your engineering department. Treat any FE exam prep course free offer from an unknown source with care and check that it matches the current specification.
