How long is the SIE exam?
How long is the SIE exam? The exam time is 1 hour and 45 minutes. If you wonder how long is SIE exam day in total, add check-in: FINRA asks you to arrive at a test center, or check in online, 30 minutes before your appointment.
The clock does not stop. At a test center, breaks are only for the restroom and your exam timer will not pause; online, the time for unscheduled breaks and security checks is deducted from your exam time.

SIE exam passing score and results
The passing score is 70 on a scale of 0 to 100. That is a scaled score, placed on a common scale through equating, not a simple 70% of questions correct, and FINRA does not publish how many correct answers it takes.
You get your pass/fail status on screen right after the exam, plus a printed copy at a test center. If you fail, FINRA adds performance feedback that shows where to focus before your next attempt.

SIE exam pass rate
FINRA does not publish an SIE exam pass rate on its SIE page, FAQ or content outline, which we checked. Any SIE exam passing rate you find on other websites is not an official FINRA figure, and we do not repeat one here.
What you can measure is your own readiness: compare your section results on timed practice with the weights in FINRA’s outline.

SIE exam registration: how to register for SIE exam
FINRA SIE exam registration is called enrollment. To register for SIE exam testing as an individual, create a FINRA account, enroll for the SIE and pay by credit card, debit card or ACH, or redeem a voucher from a firm. ACH payments can take up to 48 hours to process, and FINRA does not refund an enrollment once payment has gone through.
Your SIE exam registration is valid for 120 calendar days. FINRA then emails you a confirmation with your T-ID or U-ID, which you need together with your first and last name to book at Prometric.

Rescheduling, cancelling and retakes
Change or cancel at least 10 business days ahead to avoid fees. Within 3 to 10 business days the SIE fee is $50; within 2 business days, or if you do not show up, you lose the $100 exam fee. FINRA has no hardship policy.
If you fail, you wait 30 days after the first and second attempts and 180 days after the third and later attempts. Under Regulatory Notice 26-18 these waits drop to 15 and 60 calendar days from January 19, 2027.
