What is the FTCE exam?
The FTCE is the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations program, run together with the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE). FTCE certification testing maps onto three requirements in Florida: general knowledge, professional preparation and education competence, and subject area knowledge. For each, a passing score on the matching FTCE test is one accepted route.
For FTCE teacher certification, the Bureau of Educator Certification determines your testing requirements after you submit an application. Some requirements can also be met in other ways, for example general knowledge with qualifying GRE scores or a master’s degree.

The FTCE General Knowledge Test (082)
The FTCE General Knowledge Test has four subtests. You must pass all four, but you can take them in separate appointments.
- Essay: one essay, 50 minutes; pass with at least 6 of 8 points
- English Language Skills: about 30 multiple-choice questions, 40 minutes
- Reading: about 30 multiple-choice questions, 55 minutes
- Mathematics: about 35 multiple-choice questions, 1 hour 40 minutes, with an on-screen four-function calculator and a reference sheet

The FTCE Professional Education Test has 80 multiple-choice questions in 150 minutes and costs $150. Florida publishes the maximum share of correct answers needed to reach the passing score: 69% for Professional Education.
A passing score on the Florida Professional Education Test is part of most routes to demonstrating professional preparation and education competence, alongside a teacher preparation program or another approved pathway.

FTCE registration and FELE registration
FTCE registration runs through the FTCE/FELE testing website. For FTCE exam registration you register for the test or subtests, pay by VISA, MasterCard or a debit card usable without a PIN, and schedule a computer-based appointment, offered year-round at sites in Florida and nationwide. For GK, you can split the subtests across separate registrations.
FTCE FELE registration for educational leadership candidates works the same way. FELE costs $215 for all four subtests or $53.75 per subtest, and you can register for any combination of subtests in one session.

FTCE scores, score report and retakes
FTCE scores are scale scores: your raw score is converted, and 200 is the minimum passing scale score on multiple-choice tests. Results for multiple-choice-only tests are typically shown on site right after testing, and the official FTCE score report is posted to your account within 4 weeks. It shows PASS, or NOT PASS with your numeric score and a performance analysis by competency.
To retake a test, subtest or section you did not pass, wait 31 calendar days, then reregister and pay. A retake taken too early is invalidated. Passing scores are accepted for certification if earned no more than ten years before your application.

FTCE study guide: the official Test Information Guides
The official FTCE study guide for each exam is its Test Information Guide, published by the Florida Department of Education on the FTCE/FELE testing website. Each guide lists the competencies and skills tested, with sample items and, where relevant, essay prompts. The Department notes the guides are not intended to replace coursework.
Use the FTCE General Knowledge Test study guide for GK, the FTCE Professional Education study guide for PEd and the FTCE English 6-12 study guide for English, and plan your time against the competencies in each.

Is there a free FTCE practice test?
The pages we checked list no official free full-length FTCE practice test. The free-to-view official material is the Test Information Guide for each exam, with competencies and sample items, posted on the FTCE/FELE testing website; no price was shown for the guides.
That also answers the searches for an FTCE Elementary Education K-6 practice test free, an FTCE PreK-3 practice test free, or an FTCE Professional Education test study guide PDF free: start with the official Test Information Guide for that exam and its sample items.

FTCE practice tests by exam
An FTCE practice exam is only useful if it matches the real structure. An FTCE General Knowledge practice test should be split into the four subtests; an FTCE General Knowledge math practice test should use only a four-function calculator. An FTCE math 6-12 practice test and an FTCE math 5-9 practice test both need a scientific calculator and 50 questions in 150 minutes.
For the FTCE K-6 practice test, practise each of the four subtests separately; for an FTCE ESE practice test and an FTCE Social Science 6-12 practice test, plan for 80 questions in 150 minutes. An FTCE English 6-12 practice test should include a timed written performance task.
