Which Google Workspace Administrator certification is current?
There have been two Google Workspace administrator exams, and only one can still be taken. The professional Google Workspace administrator certification exam was retired on 31 December 2024, and Google’s page for it now says it is ineligible for renewal. In its place, Google launched the associate Google Workspace administrator certification, which is open for registration.
If you already hold the Professional credential, Google’s retired-exams help page says an existing certification remains valid for its full duration after the exam is retired. It simply cannot be renewed; when it lapses, the Associate exam is the route Google points to.

What is the Associate Google Workspace Administrator certification?
Google’s exam guide describes the role: an Associate Google Workspace Administrator handles the daily management of a Google Workspace environment so teams can collaborate and communicate safely. Core duties are managing user accounts, configuring core Workspace services like Gmail and Drive, and keeping Workspace data secure and compliant — plus setting up organisational units, managing groups, configuring sharing permissions and troubleshooting.
Google sets no prerequisites. It recommends six months of Super Admin experience in a real or test environment, hands-on experience with the Business Plus edition, and knowledge of Enterprise edition features. That is a much lower bar than the retired Professional exam, which recommended three or more years of industry experience including at least one year of Workspace administration.

Google Workspace Administrator exam: format, cost and delivery
The Associate exam lasts 2 hours and has 50–60 multiple-choice and multiple-select questions. The registration fee is US$125 plus tax where applicable. You can take it as an online-proctored exam from a remote location or as an onsite-proctored exam at a testing centre, in English or Japanese.
Google does not publish a passing score. Its certification FAQ states that only pass/fail results are provided.

What is on the exam? The six sections
Google’s exam guide splits the Associate exam into six sections with approximate weights. Core services and account management together make up over 40%, and security policies are as heavy as account management.
- Managing user accounts, domains, and Directory — about 20%
- Managing core Workspace services — about 23%
- Managing data governance and compliance — about 15%
- Managing security policies and access controls — about 20%
- Managing browsers and endpoints — about 10%
- Monitoring and troubleshooting common issues — about 13%

Google Workspace Administrator training
Google’s exam page links one official route for Google Workspace administrator training: the Associate Google Workspace Administrator learning path on Google Skills (formerly Cloud Skills Boost). It is a curated set of five activities — on-demand courses, labs and skill badges — that Google says equips you with the skills the certification validates.
Treat any Google Workspace administrator course as preparation, not as the credential. Only passing Google’s proctored exam gives you the certification, and the best check for any course is whether it covers the six sections above in roughly their weights.
Because hands-on Super Admin experience is what Google recommends, the most useful training is practical: a test tenant where you create users and organisational units, configure Gmail and Drive sharing, set security policies and work through troubleshooting.

Is the Google Workspace Administrator certification free?
No. The exam fee is US$125 plus tax. What Google does offer at no exam cost are the exam guide and a set of sample questions linked from the exam page; we could not confirm whether the Google Skills learning path itself is free, as its page shows no pricing.

Retakes, validity and renewal
Google’s exam terms allow a maximum of four attempts in two years for associate exams. After a first fail you can retake after 14 days, after a second fail you wait 60 days, and after a third you wait 365 days.
Associate certifications are valid for three years from the date you certify. Google’s renewal page shows that, for associate certifications, the renewal window opens 180 days before the inactive date and a renewal adds three years. Google states that renewal cost varies by exam.

Practice questions, exam dumps and salary
Google links official sample questions from the exam page, which show the question style. Copies of real exam questions are a different matter: Google’s exam terms forbid sharing exam content in any format, including content you memorise, and forbid using unauthorized exam content shared by someone else. Violations can lead to revoked certifications and a permanent ban.
On salary, Google publishes no figure for this certification, so none is quoted here. Its value is the recognised proof that you can run a Workspace tenant — useful if Workspace administration is part of your job or the job you want.
