Praxis study guide: using the ETS study companion for your test
The best Praxis study guide is the ETS Praxis study companion for your exact test code. ETS offers these study companions free; each one has a test-at-a-glance table, the content categories with their weight, sample questions and answers with explanations. Build your study plan from those categories, then check your readiness with practice questions.

What the ETS Praxis study companion contains
Every ETS Praxis study companion follows the same pattern. The test-at-a-glance table gives the time, number of questions, format and content categories with approximate question counts and percentages. A study topics section lists what each category covers, a question types section explains the formats, and the sample questions are followed by answers with explanations.
Because it comes from the test maker, the ETS Praxis study guide is the reference for scope. Any other Praxis test study guide or Praxis study book should match its categories; if it does not, follow ETS.

Praxis Core study guide: what to study
For the Core, use one study companion per subtest. Core Reading (5713) weights Key Ideas and Details at about 35%, Craft, Structure, and Language Skills at about 30%, and Integration of Knowledge and Ideas at about 35%.
Core Writing (5723) puts about 60% on Text Types, Purposes, and Production, which includes the two essays, and about 40% on Language and Research Skills for Writing. Plan essay practice early: it carries more weight than the 40 selected-response questions suggest.

Praxis 5001 study guide: Elementary Education Multiple Subjects
The Praxis 5001 study guide from ETS covers four separately timed subtests. Candidates who still search for a Praxis II 5001 study guide need this same study companion; the content categories below are taken from it:
- Reading and Language Arts (5002), 90 minutes: Reading 47%, Writing, Speaking, and Listening 53%
- Mathematics (5003), 65 minutes: Numbers and Operations 40%, Algebraic Thinking 30%, Geometry and Measurement, Data, Statistics, and Probability 30%
- Social Studies (5004), 60 minutes: U.S. History, Government, and Citizenship 45%, Geography, Anthropology, and Sociology 30%, World History and Economics 25%

Praxis 5205 study guide: Teaching Reading Elementary
A Praxis 5205 study guide has to cover two kinds of work. Five selected-response categories make up about 75% of the score: phonological and phonemic awareness and emergent literacy (11%), phonics and decoding (15%), vocabulary and fluency (18%), comprehension of literary and informational text (18%) and written expression (13%).
The other 25% comes from three constructed-response questions on assessment and instructional decision making. Practise writing those answers under time pressure, not only reading about them.

Praxis SLP study guide
A Praxis study guide for speech language pathology should mirror the ETS split for test 5331: 44 questions each on Foundations and Professional Practice; Screening, Assessment, Evaluation, and Diagnosis; and Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation of Treatment. With 132 questions in 150 minutes, pacing is part of the preparation.
Besides the free Praxis SLP study guide from ETS, ETS sells its own Speech-Language Pathology course on the official test prep page.

Praxis ParaPro Assessment study guide
For paraprofessionals, ETS offers free resources for the ParaPro Assessment on the ParaPro site, plus paid practice tests (Form 2 and Form 3). Use these as your Praxis ParaPro Assessment study guide, and check your state’s requirements on the same site.

Praxis test prep and study materials beyond the study companion
Official Praxis test study materials from ETS also include interactive practice tests, prep eBooks, 15-minute quiz sets and, for Elementary Education, self-paced learning paths with timed full-length practice tests. Whatever you choose for Praxis test prep, keep the study companion as your checklist and track each content category separately.
Certsqill’s Praxis question bank adds expert-developed questions with an explanation for every answer option and a readiness score per content category, so you know which category to study next.
