What is the Salesforce Marketing Cloud Email Specialist certification?
It is Salesforce’s certification for email marketers who build and send campaigns in Marketing Cloud. According to the exam guide, the target candidate has at least six months of experience with the Marketing Cloud Email application and its tools, applies email marketing best practices, and can troubleshoot basic Marketing Cloud issues.
The exam guide covers the whole working cycle of an email marketer: creating and delivering content, automating sends and journeys, managing subscribers and data, and reading the results. It is a hands-on user credential, not an administrator or consultant certification.

Marketing Cloud Email Specialist is now Marketing Cloud Engagement Specialist
Salesforce now lists the credential as the Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud Engagement Specialist. The Trailhead credential page still sits at its old Email Specialist address but shows the new name, and both the current exam guide and the Spring ’26 maintenance module use “Engagement Specialist”. The exam guide itself still refers to the candidate as “the Email Specialist” in one place.
Salesforce has not published a separate notice about the rename that we could find, so we do not give a date for it. What matters for candidates: the exam is still offered, the content areas are email marketing in Marketing Cloud, and when you search for the marketing cloud email specialist certification you will land on the Engagement Specialist exam guide and credential.

How much does the Marketing Cloud Email Specialist exam cost?
The registration fee is US$200 (JPY 30,000), plus any taxes required by local law. If you do not pass, a retake costs US$100 (JPY 15,000), plus taxes.
Those are the only fees in the exam guide. Training is optional and priced separately by whoever delivers it, and the yearly maintenance badge is completed on Trailhead.
- Exam registration: US$200 plus applicable taxes
- Retake: US$100 plus applicable taxes

Exam format and passing score
The exam has 60 scored multiple-choice questions. Salesforce adds up to five unscored questions, mixed in at random, that do not affect your result — you cannot tell which ones they are. You have 90 minutes in total.
The passing score is 67%. The exam is proctored, either onsite at a testing center or in an online proctored environment, and no hard-copy or online materials may be used during it.
Salesforce states that the exam questions align to the Summer ’23 release. Study the features as they were at that release and do not assume that every newer change is tested.

What is on the exam? The five content areas
The exam guide splits the exam into five weighted sections. Marketing automation and subscriber and data management carry 26% each — more than half of the exam between them — and content creation and delivery adds another 24%.
That weighting tells you where to spend study time: data extensions, lists, journeys and automations are not side topics here, they are the core. Email marketing best practices, at 10%, is the smallest section, but it shows up implicitly in the other four as well.
- Marketing Automation — 26%
- Subscriber and Data Management — 26%
- Content Creation and Delivery — 24%
- Insights and Analytics — 14%
- Email Marketing Best Practices — 10%

Prerequisites and recommended experience
The exam guide lists no prerequisite: you do not need another Salesforce certification to book it. It does describe the expected candidate as having at least six months of experience using the Marketing Cloud Email application and its associated tools.
Treat those six months as the realistic bar. The exam asks you to choose the right approach for a scenario, which is hard to do from reading alone if you have never built a send or a journey.

Study guide, training and courses
Salesforce names two official prep resources in the exam guide. The free Trailmix “Prepare for Your Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud Engagement Specialist Certification” on Trailhead, and the course Build and Analyze Customer Journeys using Marketing Cloud (MKT 101), which the guide calls highly recommended.
Whatever training you pick — the official course, a self-paced study plan or an intensive bootcamp — check it against the five content areas and their weights. A course that spends most of its time on email design and little on data extensions or automation does not match an exam where those carry over half the points.
For exam prep, a sensible order is: work through the Trailmix, practise the tasks in a Marketing Cloud account, then finish with timed practice questions to see whether you clear 67% comfortably.

How do you maintain the certification?
Salesforce certifications are kept current through Trailhead. The exam guide states that you must complete the maintenance badge on Trailhead once a year; if you miss the due date, the certification expires.
The current module is called Marketing Cloud Engagement Specialist Certification Maintenance (Spring ’26), and it asks you to complete the badge by the due date shown in Salesforce’s maintenance schedule.

Practice questions, dumps and salary
Good practice questions mirror the real exam: scenario-based multiple choice, weighted towards automation and data, under a 90-minute limit. Use them after you have studied each content area, not instead of it.
Exam dumps are another matter. Salesforce’s Program Terms treat all exam content as confidential information and allow Salesforce to revoke your credential if you used assistance from others in completing the exam. A dump built from real questions puts the certification at risk.
On salary: Salesforce does not publish salary figures for this certification in the exam guide or on the credential page, so we do not quote any.
