What is the Salesforce Platform App Builder certification?
The Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder credential is aimed at people who design, build and deploy custom applications on the Salesforce Platform mainly with declarative tools: data models, security settings, business logic, process automation and user interface changes, rather than Apex code.
Salesforce’s exam guide describes the typical candidate as someone with 6 months to 1 year of experience building applications on the Customer 360 platform or a similar platform. The primary audiences it names are experienced Platform Administrators, declarative application builders, business analysts, product and ISV developers, and architects.
There is no formal prerequisite. You can book the exam without holding another Salesforce cert first, but the questions assume you have actually built things in an org — object relationships, flows, validation rules, page layouts and deployments.

How much does the Platform App Builder exam cost?
Salesforce lists a registration fee of US$200, or JPY 30,000, plus applicable taxes as required by local law. If you do not pass, the retake fee is US$100, or JPY 15,000, plus taxes.
So a first attempt costs US$200 before tax and each retake adds US$100. Training is a separate cost: Salesforce recommends a mix of hands-on experience, training courses, Trailhead trails and self-study, and the free Trailhead content can cover much of that last part.
- Registration: US$200 / JPY 30,000 plus applicable taxes
- Retake: US$100 / JPY 15,000 plus applicable taxes

Salesforce Platform App Builder exam format and passing score
The exam has 60 multiple-choice questions that count, and up to five additional unscored questions that do not affect your result. You will not know which ones are unscored, so answer every question as if it counts.
You have 105 minutes, which is a little over a minute and a half per question including the unscored ones. The passing score is 73%, so you need to get roughly 44 of the 60 scored questions right.
The exam is proctored, either onsite at a testing center or online, and no hard-copy or online references are allowed. The guide states that the questions align to the SU ’26 release, so features that changed in recent releases are fair game.

What is on the Platform App Builder certification exam?
Salesforce publishes five sections with fixed weights. Business logic and process automation is by far the largest at 32%, almost a third of the scored questions — formula fields, roll-up summaries, validation rules, approval processes and above all Flow Builder, including which flow type to pick and how to troubleshoot it.
Data modeling and management carries 20%: choosing objects and relationship types, field data types, and importing and exporting data, including external data sources. Salesforce fundamentals covers declarative versus programmatic customization, AgentExchange extensions, record and field access, sharing, and reports and dashboards.
User interface covers custom buttons, links and actions, Lightning components and mobile layouts, and app deployment covers sandboxes, change sets, managed and unmanaged packages and deployment plans.
- Business Logic and Process Automation — 32%
- Data Modeling and Management — 20%
- Salesforce Fundamentals — 18%
- User Interface — 17%
- App Deployment — 13%

How to study for the Platform App Builder exam
Salesforce’s own study recommendation is a combination of hands-on experience, training course completion, Trailhead trails and self-study. The exam guide points to the Trailmix “Prepare for Your Salesforce Platform App Builder Certification” and to superbadge units on flow fundamentals, formulas, and data quality and validation.
For a course with an instructor, Salesforce runs Trailhead Academy, its official training arm. Whichever prep route you choose, build in a free Developer Edition org or Trailhead Playground while you learn: the exam asks which declarative solution fits a scenario, and that judgement comes from having built and broken things yourself.
Weight your study time by the outline. Automation at 32% deserves the most hours, followed by data modeling at 20%. A good study plan ends with timed sets of scenario questions so that the 105-minute limit feels routine on exam day.

Salesforce Platform App Builder practice exam options
The exam guide does not list an official Salesforce practice exam for Platform App Builder. What Salesforce does provide is the Trailmix and the superbadge units, which test hands-on skills rather than multiple-choice recall.
If you use a platform app builder practice exam from another source, judge it against the official outline: are the questions scenario-based, are roughly a third about automation, and does every answer come with an explanation you can check against Salesforce documentation? A practice test that just repeats definitions will not prepare you for “which tool should the app builder use” questions.

Are Platform App Builder exam dumps allowed?
No. Salesforce’s Credentialing and Certification Program Agreement treats all exam questions and answers as Salesforce property and prohibits sharing, using or selling exam content in any format — including content you memorize and content found online or in shared documents.
The consequences listed include revocation of earned certifications, suspension from taking certification exams for 90 days or more, and removal from Salesforce’s credentialing programs altogether. A dump is therefore not a shortcut to pass; it puts every Salesforce cert you hold at risk.

How do you maintain the Platform App Builder certification?
The exam guide says you must complete the Platform App Builder certification maintenance badge on Trailhead three times a year, and that the certification expires if you do not complete all maintenance requirements by the due date.
Check your exact due dates in your Trailhead account rather than relying on a general schedule. Maintenance modules cover what changed in recent releases, so they also keep your knowledge current for the job.

Platform App Builder vs Platform Administrator
Both exams use the same shell: 60 multiple-choice questions plus up to five unscored ones, 105 minutes, US$200 to register and US$100 to retake. The passing score differs: 73% for Platform App Builder, while the Platform Administrator guide lists 68% for the English version and 65% for the Japanese version.
The content differs more. Platform Administrator is about running an org — configuration and setup, the Object Manager, sales, service and productivity apps, data and analytics, and Agentforce. Platform App Builder goes deeper into building custom apps: data modeling, automation and deployment. Neither is a formal prerequisite for the other.
