TOGAF training and certification courses
You can earn TOGAF certification through self-study or through training. If you choose a course, The Open Group runs an accreditation scheme for TOGAF training — and an accredited course includes things a non-accredited one cannot, starting with the exam itself. This page explains what to expect and how to check a course.

Is TOGAF training required for certification?
No. The Open Group states that you can prepare by attending a training course or by self-study, and either route leads to the same exams. TOGAF training and certification are therefore separate decisions: the certification comes only from passing the exams, whatever preparation you chose.

What an accredited TOGAF certification course includes
An Accredited Training Course (ATC) is assessed by The Open Group. According to The Open Group, accredited TOGAF training courses:
- include one or more examination vouchers appropriate to the course and certification level — the exam is taken on site or with a voucher for a public test center, so you do not pay the exam fee separately;
- include 10 Learning Studies, completed and discussed in class with the authorised trainer;
- lead, for Practitioner courses, to the Applied TOGAF Enterprise Architecture Practitioner badge once you pass the Level 2 exam.

TOGAF online training or classroom
The Open Group states that accredited courses can be delivered in a virtual classroom or through e-learning, so TOGAF online training can still be accredited. Check which form a provider offers: a live virtual class with a trainer and a self-paced e-learning course suit different people.
Separate from accredited courses, The Open Group sells its own online self-study courses with 60-day access for Enterprise Architecture Foundation, Practitioner and the Practitioner Bridge. These are self-study material, not an ATC, so the exam is booked separately.
The exam itself can also be taken online: TOGAF exams are delivered by Pearson VUE, at a test center or from home with OnVUE.

TOGAF Foundation training vs Practitioner training
TOGAF Foundation training prepares you for Part 1 (OGEA-101): 40 questions in 60 minutes, closed book, about the concepts, terminology and the Architecture Development Method. Practitioner training adds Part 2 (OGEA-102): 8 scenario questions in 90 minutes, open book, about applying the method to a situation.
Many courses cover both levels and prepare you for the combined exam, OGEA-103. If you already hold TOGAF 9 Certified, look for training aimed at the Bridge exam, OGEA-10B, instead of starting from Foundation.

What a TOGAF training course costs
Course prices are set by the training providers and are not on The Open Group’s fee schedule. What the schedule does give you is the exam price that an accredited course replaces: USD 405 per part when booked directly, or USD 610 for the combined exam, with taxes possible in some countries. When comparing a course with self-study, add that exam cost to the self-study side.

How to check a TOGAF course before you book
The Open Group maintains a TOGAF Certification Portfolio Accreditation Register listing accredited providers, and an Accredited Training Course Calendar for finding scheduled courses. Before booking any of the TOGAF courses on offer, check:
- Is the provider on The Open Group’s accreditation register for the course you want?
- Is it training on the TOGAF Standard, 10th Edition — Enterprise Architecture Foundation and Practitioner — or an older TOGAF 9 course?
- Which exam vouchers are included, and for which parts?
- For Practitioner: are the Learning Studies included, so you can earn the Applied Practitioner badge?
