What is the CLTD certification?
The Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution (CLTD) certification is issued by ASCM under its APICS brand. That is why people search for both the ASCM CLTD certification and the APICS CLTD certification: they are the same credential.
ASCM aims CLTD at current and aspiring supply chain professionals working in transportation, logistics, warehousing, distribution and inventory management. Its nine modules follow the physical flow of goods: networks, orders, inventory, warehouses, transport and global logistics.

CLTD certification cost
ASCM lists the APICS CLTD Certification Exam at US$1,195 for non-members and CORE members. ASCM PLUS members pay a lower price shown on the same page; we could not read that figure from ASCM’s page today, so we do not quote it.
The official preparation material, the APICS 2022 CLTD Learning System, is listed at US$1,245 for non-members and CORE members. ASCM also sells a combined bundle with ASCM PLUS membership that includes the learning system, a CLTD exam voucher and a “2nd Chance Exam” with restrictions. If you plan to use the learning system and sit the exam, compare the bundle with buying both separately.

CLTD eligibility requirements
There are none. ASCM’s APICS Exam Handbook states that the CPIM, CLTD and SCOR-P exams do not have an eligibility requirement at this time; only CSCP has one. You do not need a degree, a set number of years in logistics or another certification to sit the CLTD exam.
What you do need is an Authorization to Test (ATT). The Handbook says you must take the exam within six months of the date the ATT is purchased.

CLTD exam format and passing score
The CLTD exam has 150 multiple-choice questions: 130 operational questions that count towards your score and 20 pretest questions that do not. You cannot tell them apart, so every question deserves full attention. You have 3.5 hours, about 1 minute 24 seconds per question.
Scores are scaled from 200 to 350, and 300 or above is a pass. At a test centre you receive a printed score report at the end of the exam; if not, the Handbook says you can print it from your Pearson VUE dashboard within 24 to 48 hours.
The exam is computer-based at Pearson VUE test centres worldwide or online through Pearson VUE’s OnVUE system. If you fail, the Handbook requires you to wait 14 full days before retaking the same exam.

What is on the CLTD exam? The nine modules
The CLTD Learning System is divided into nine modules, and they define the scope of the exam. ASCM recommends about 100 hours of study time.

- Module 2: Logistics Network Design
- Module 3: Sustainability and Reverse Logistics
- Module 4: Capacity Planning and Demand Management
- Module 5: Order Management
- Module 6: Inventory Management
- Module 7: Warehouse Management
- Module 8: Transportation
- Module 9: Global Logistics

CLTD exam questions and practice
The CLTD Learning System includes more than 850 online test questions, ASCM’s own practice material for the exam. Use them module by module, then in a full timed set of 150 to rehearse the 3.5-hour sitting.
Live CLTD exam questions are a different matter. The APICS Exam Handbook states that the entire question data bank, exam forms and exam materials are copyrighted and the legal property of APICS, and that legal action may be taken against anyone who distributes exam content. Sharing exam content counts as misconduct; consequences include a ban from retaking the exam for at least six months, cancelled scores and revoked certification.

CLTD certification salary
ASCM’s 2024 CLTD brochure states that APICS-certified individuals earn 27% more than those without a certification. The brochure does not name the data source for that figure, so treat it as ASCM’s own marketing claim rather than an independent salary benchmark. ASCM publishes no CLTD-specific salary on the pages we checked, and this page does not add one.

How do you maintain the CLTD?
CLTD holders must submit a certification maintenance application every five years to keep the designation. The details — what activities count and how many points are needed — are in ASCM’s separate APICS Certification Maintenance Handbook, which we did not review for this page.

CLTD vs CSCP and CPIM
All three are APICS certifications from ASCM, but they differ in scope and entry. CLTD and CPIM have no eligibility requirement; CSCP is the only one of the three that does. CLTD concentrates on logistics, transportation and distribution — warehouses, transport, networks, reverse and global logistics. If you want a supply chain credential you can sit without meeting an eligibility bar, CLTD and CPIM both qualify.
