What is the Cloud Plus certification?
CompTIA Cloud+ — Cloud Plus when spoken — is CompTIA’s certification for cloud infrastructure. CompTIA states that it validates your skills in cloud infrastructure and describes it as the standard for professionals working in multi-cloud environments; its objectives cover public, private, hybrid and multi-cloud models rather than a single provider’s console.
CompTIA maps it to the NICE and DCWF work roles of network operations specialist, systems administrator, enterprise architect and security architect. That list is a good indication of the audience: people who already run infrastructure and now run it in the cloud, not newcomers to IT.
It is a single exam, currently CV0-004 (exam version V4), launched on 24 September 2024.

When does Cloud+ CV0-004 retire?
CompTIA states that the exam usually retires three years after launch and estimates 2027 for CV0-004. CompTIA gives no exact retirement date on the Cloud+ page as checked, and no successor version is listed there.
In practice this matters for timing. If you plan to sit Cloud+ in 2027, check the Cloud+ page for a retirement date and a successor version before you buy a voucher or training material, because material is written against one exam version’s objectives.

How much does the Cloud Plus certification cost?
CompTIA does not print a voucher price on the Cloud+ certification page. Vouchers and bundles are sold through the CompTIA store, which could not be checked for this page, so no figure is given here; the binding price appears at checkout in your currency.
The page does list the bundle structure: a Cloud+ Practice and Exam Bundle, a Learn and Exam Bundle and a Complete Bundle, each “with Retake”, which means the voucher in the bundle includes Retake Assurance.
Holding the certification carries CE fees for renewal, which CompTIA requires unless you renew through an exempt route such as a higher-level CompTIA certification.

What is the Cloud+ exam format?
CV0-004 has a maximum of 90 questions and a 90-minute time limit, mixing multiple-choice and performance-based questions. Performance-based items ask you to carry out a task rather than choose an answer.
If all 90 questions appear, the average is one minute per question. Knowing that before exam day helps you avoid spending ten minutes on one task and rushing the last block of multiple-choice items.
You can take it at a Pearson VUE test center or online through OnVUE; CompTIA states that the scheduling steps are the same either way. The exam is offered in English and Japanese.

Cloud+ passing score
CompTIA publishes it: 750 on a scale of 100–900. That is higher than the 720 CompTIA sets for Network+ and Linux+.
It is a scaled score, not a percentage of correct answers, and CompTIA publishes no conversion. For preparation that means aiming for consistent results in every domain rather than a single overall practice percentage.

What is on the Cloud+ exam?
CompTIA publishes six domains for CV0-004. Cloud architecture is the largest at 23 per cent; deployment and security follow at 19 per cent each. DevOps fundamentals is the smallest domain, but at 10 per cent it still carries one tenth of the exam’s weight.
Another way to read the split: architecture, deployment and security — designing and building — make up 61 per cent together; operations, troubleshooting and DevOps fundamentals — running what was built — make up 39 per cent. A preparation plan that only covers design will leave more than a third of the exam untouched.
- Cloud architecture — 23%
- Deployment — 19%
- Operations — 17%
- Security — 19%
- DevOps fundamentals — 10%
- Troubleshooting — 12%

Cloud+ prerequisites, and how long Cloud+ is valid
There is no required prerequisite. CompTIA recommends 2–3 years of hands-on experience as a systems administrator or cloud engineer, and states it as a recommendation, not a booking condition. Read it as the level the scenarios assume: running infrastructure, not learning what the cloud is.
CompTIA states that a certification expires three years from the date you earn it and must be renewed before then. For Cloud+, the continuing education programme requires 50 CEUs over the cycle.
Instead of CEUs you can renew with a single activity — CertMaster CE, a higher-level CompTIA certification, a qualifying non-CompTIA IT certification, or passing the latest release of the exam.

Cloud+ study materials and training
CompTIA’s own preparation products for Cloud+ are CertMaster Perform, CertMaster Learn, CertMaster Practice and CertMaster Labs, also sold in bundles with an exam voucher and Retake Assurance. The six domains and weightings on CompTIA’s Cloud+ page are the authoritative scope for any of them.
Check any material against CV0-004 and its six domains. With a retirement estimated for 2027, the version label on the cover matters more than usual: material written for an earlier or later version follows a different objective list.

Cloud+ vs AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
These two are compared because both carry “cloud” in the name, but they sit at different levels. AWS lists Cloud Practitioner as a Foundational certification: 65 questions, multiple choice or multiple response, in 90 minutes, at 100 USD, valid for three years. It covers one provider, AWS.
Cloud+ is pitched higher and wider: CompTIA recommends 2–3 years of hands-on experience, the exam includes performance-based questions, and the objectives span public, private, hybrid and multi-cloud models rather than one vendor’s services. In the same 90 minutes in which AWS sets 65 questions, CompTIA allows up to 90.
If your work is on one provider, that provider’s own certifications describe it most directly; Cloud+ is the option CompTIA positions for multi-cloud infrastructure work.

CompTIA cloud certifications: Cloud+ and Cloud Essentials
People searching for CompTIA cloud certifications usually find two names: Cloud+ and Cloud Essentials. They are not two levels of the same thing. Cloud+ (CV0-004) is the proctored CompTIA cloud certification exam covered on this page. Cloud Essentials is listed by CompTIA today as a course.
So if a job ad asks for a CompTIA cloud cert, it almost always means Cloud+: the CompTIA cloud computing certification that validates skills in cloud infrastructure across multi-cloud environments, aimed at people with two to three years of hands-on experience as a systems administrator or cloud engineer.

What happened to the CompTIA Cloud Essentials certification?
On CompTIA’s site, Cloud Essentials now appears as the “CompTIA Cloud Essentials course”: approximately eight hours of instructional content, designed for beginners and business professionals, with no prior experience required. It ends with a downloadable Competency Certificate rather than a proctored certification exam.
If you are looking for the CompTIA Cloud Essentials certification because you want to understand the business side of cloud without a technical role, that course is CompTIA’s current offer. If you work hands-on with cloud infrastructure, Cloud+ is the credential to aim for.

Is Cloud+ worth it?
Cloud+ is worth it if your work spans more than one cloud platform or includes on-premises infrastructure alongside cloud: its domains — architecture, deployment, operations, security, DevOps fundamentals and troubleshooting — are not tied to a single provider. If your organisation runs entirely on one hyperscaler, that provider’s own associate-level certification may map more directly to your daily tools.
Factor in the three-year renewal cycle with 50 CEUs or another qualifying activity. CompTIA publishes no salary or pass-rate data for Cloud+, and we do not quote unofficial figures.

Is Cloud Essentials still a CompTIA certification exam?
CompTIA currently lists Cloud Essentials as a course of about eight hours that ends with a downloadable Competency Certificate. Source: CompTIA, checked 9 October 2026.
Which CompTIA cloud certification should I take?
Cloud+ if you work hands-on with cloud infrastructure; the Cloud Essentials course if you need a business-level introduction without prior experience.
