What is CompTIA PenTest+?
CompTIA PenTest+, often written PenTest Plus, is CompTIA’s certification for penetration testing, and PT0-003 is its current exam.
CompTIA recommends three to four years in a penetration tester role, with Network+ and Security+ or equivalent knowledge. That makes PenTest+ a working tester’s exam rather than an entry point: it assumes the security and networking basics and tests how you plan, run and report an engagement.
Many vendors offer penetration testing certifications. This page is about the CompTIA one only.

PT0-003 exam objectives and domains
The PT0-003 exam objectives are grouped into five domains with fixed weights. That list is the PenTest+ outline in full, not a summary of a separate document.
Read the weights before you plan. Attacks and exploits carry 35 per cent, more than a third of the exam. Reconnaissance and enumeration follow at 21, vulnerability discovery and analysis at 17, post-exploitation and lateral movement at 14, and engagement management — scoping, rules of engagement, reporting — at 13.
- Attacks and Exploits — 35%
- Reconnaissance and Enumeration — 21%
- Vulnerability Discovery and Analysis — 17%
- Post-exploitation and Lateral Movement — 14%
- Engagement Management — 13%

PenTest+ passing score and exam format
The PenTest+ passing score is 750 on a scale of 100 to 900. It is a scaled score, not a percentage of questions answered correctly, so 750 does not translate into a fixed number of right answers.
CompTIA states a maximum of 90 questions in 165 minutes, mixing multiple-choice and performance-based questions. The exam is offered in English, French, Japanese and Portuguese.

PT0-002 vs PT0-003
PT0-002 vs PT0-003 is no longer a choice: CompTIA launched PT0-003 on 17 December 2024 and retired PT0-002 on 17 June 2025. Anyone booking the exam now sits PT0-003, so study material should match the five PT0-003 domains above.
CompTIA expects PT0-003 itself to retire about three years after launch and estimates 2027.

PenTest+ practice test and practice questions
This site holds 870 PenTest+ practice questions for PT0-003, split across the five domains in the same proportions as CompTIA’s weighting — 304 on attacks and exploits, the largest block. Every question shows all options, which one is correct, and why each of the others is wrong.
One honest limit: the bank is multiple-choice. CompTIA’s exam also includes performance-based questions, and this site does not simulate them.

What you will not find here are PT0-003 dumps. These questions are written against CompTIA’s published objectives, not recycled from the live exam.
PenTest Plus cost and study guide
CompTIA’s certification page does not state a PenTest+ voucher price, so we do not publish one here. Vouchers are sold through CompTIA.

What CompTIA PenTest validates, and for which roles
CompTIA sums up the certification in one line: CompTIA PenTest+ validates your ability to identify, mitigate and report system vulnerabilities. Note the last verb. Reporting is part of what is assessed, not an afterthought — engagement management, which includes scoping and reporting, is a domain of its own.
CompTIA names two career directions for holders: penetration tester and security consultant. That matches the recommended background of three to four years in a testing role; this is not designed as a first security certification.

Planning your CompTIA PenTest Plus preparation
Start from the weights. Attacks and exploits at 35% deserves the most time, but the smaller domains decide close results: engagement management at 13% covers rules of engagement and reporting, which hands-on testers often know in practice but have never studied as exam material.
Prepare for both question types. The CompTIA PenTest Plus exam mixes multiple-choice with performance-based questions, so pair question practice with hands-on work in a lab of your own — reading tool output, choosing the next step, and writing up a finding.
CompTIA’s own preparation products include CertMaster Practice, which it describes as offering timed practice exams, objective quizzes and exam objective mastery scores. CompTIA also sells bundles that include a voucher with Retake Assurance; the page does not state prices for any of them.
