Elastic Certified Analyst exam: cost, format and objectives
The Elastic Certified Analyst is Elastic’s hands-on certification for searching, visualising and analysing data in Kibana. Instead of multiple-choice questions you complete real tasks on pre-loaded datasets, on Elastic Stack 8.8, with the Elastic documentation as your only reference. An attempt costs $400 USD, the result is pass or fail, and the certification is valid for two years.

What is the Elastic Certified Analyst certification?
The Elastic Certified Analyst is Elastic’s certification for people who work with data in Kibana. Elastic describes the exam as designed for anyone using Kibana to search, visualise and analyse their data in Elasticsearch — analysts, operations staff and developers who build dashboards rather than clusters.
Like Elastic’s other certifications, it is a hands-on exam. You get a Kibana instance connected to an Elasticsearch cluster with pre-loaded datasets and a list of real-world tasks: build this visualisation, filter that dashboard, set up this machine learning job. The certification therefore shows that you can produce the result in Kibana, not just recognise it.

How much does the Elastic Certified Analyst exam cost?
Elastic charges $400 USD per attempt for the Elastic Certified Analyst exam. Reattempts are not discounted, so a failed attempt means buying another one at the same price, and an exam purchase is not refundable.
After you buy an attempt, you have one year to use it. Plan your preparation so that you book within that window rather than letting the purchase expire.

Elastic Certified Analyst exam format
The exam consists of real-world tasks that must be completed using Kibana and pre-loaded datasets. Elastic’s FAQ names Elastic Stack 8.8 as the version for this certification. Elastic does not publish the exam length or the number of tasks.
The exam is delivered online. A proctor monitors you via audio and video throughout, and you need a Windows or macOS computer; Elastic states that Linux is not supported.
You may use the Elastic documentation during the exam. All other external websites, including Google and Stack Overflow, are strictly prohibited, so knowing where Kibana features are documented is part of the preparation.

Elastic Certified Analyst passing score and results
Elastic publishes no passing percentage. Candidates receive either a pass or a fail score, and Elastic does not report performance on individual items. A visualisation that is almost right — wrong interval, missing filter, wrong field — can still count as a failed task.
Results are not instant. Elastic says you will typically receive your exam results within 7 to 10 business days.

Elastic Certified Analyst exam objectives
The Elastic Training exam page groups the objectives into three areas: searching, visualising and analysing data. Visualising data is by far the largest. Note that this objective list still carries the page’s original note about a release in May 2020 and names older Kibana features such as index patterns, TSVB and coordinate maps, while the FAQ lists Stack 8.8 — check the exam page for the current wording before you book.
- Searching Data — define an index pattern with or without a time filter field, set the time filter, use KQL in the search bar, create and pin filters, apply search criteria to a visualisation or dashboard
- Visualizing Data — Metric and Gauge visualisations, Lens, area, line, pie and bar charts, sub-bucket aggregations, moving averages, derivatives and serial differences, chart formatting and colours
- Visualizing Data (continued) — heat maps, region and coordinate maps from geo data, TSVB visualisations including filter ratios and charts from a machine learning job, tag clouds, data tables, Markdown, option list and range slider controls, dashboards made of multiple visualisations
- Analyzing Data — answer questions about a dataset with search and visualisations, find anomalies, define single metric, multi-metric and population machine learning jobs, define and use scripted fields, define and use Kibana Spaces

Prerequisites and recommended training
There are no formal prerequisites. Elastic recommends its Data Analysis with Kibana course as the best preparation, but states that attending it is not required.
On the day you need a non-expired government-issued photo ID with a signature, with a name that matches your registration, and a quiet, isolated room. The exam must be launched no later than 15 minutes after the scheduled start, or you are marked as a no-show.

Retakes and certification validity
If you do not pass, you must wait 14 days before reattempting, and you need to purchase a new attempt.
The Elastic Certified Analyst certification is valid for two years from the exam date. Passing the exam again while the certification is still active extends it by two years; Elastic states that extensions are not available for expired certifications, so recertify before the expiry date.

How to prepare for the Elastic Certified Analyst exam
Treat the objectives as a checklist of things to build. Load a sample dataset into a Kibana instance on the 8.x line, then work through every objective from scratch using only the Elastic documentation: the KQL search, the pinned filter, the Lens chart, the moving average, the anomaly detection job, the Space. If you have to look anywhere other than the documentation to finish one, practise it again.
Spend extra time on the analysis tasks. Building a chart is mechanical once you know the editor; answering a question about a dataset under time pressure requires knowing which visualisation will show the answer fastest.

Elastic Certified Analyst vs Elastic Certified Engineer
Both are hands-on Elastic certifications with the same rules for retakes, validity and documentation access, but they target different roles. The Analyst exam works in Kibana and costs $400 per attempt on Stack 8.8. The Elastic Certified Engineer is aimed at IT professionals who build and deploy Elasticsearch solutions, with objectives in installation and configuration, indexing data, mappings and text analysis and cluster administration, and costs $500 per attempt on Stack 9.3.
If your job is dashboards, searches and anomaly detection, the Analyst is the direct fit. If you run, secure and scale the clusters behind those dashboards, the Engineer is the better choice.

Elastic Certified Analyst exam rules and dumps
Elastic lists cheating, the use of unauthorised materials or devices, and the reproduction or distribution of exam content as prohibited conduct. Candidates found in violation may have their certifications revoked and be disqualified from future Elastic exams, with bans ranging from six months to a lifetime, and Elastic can invalidate results even after a certification has been awarded.
Leaked answers also do little on a performance-based exam: the tasks are judged on what you built in Kibana, not on a remembered letter.
