What is the JNCIS-SEC certification?
JNCIS-SEC stands for Juniper Networks Certified Specialist, Security. It is the second step of Juniper’s security track: above JNCIA-SEC (associate), below JNCIP-SEC (professional) and JNCIE-SEC (expert). Juniper describes it as a certification for networking professionals with intermediate knowledge, and says the written exam verifies your understanding of security technologies and the related platform configuration and troubleshooting skills.
In practice that means SRX-series security on Junos OS: intrusion prevention, IPsec VPNs, Juniper ATP Cloud, chassis clustering, identity-aware policies, SSL proxy and Security Director. The current exam is based on Junos OS 24.4.

JNCIS-SEC exam status: JN0-336 and the move to HPE Networking
On 15 September 2026 the Juniper Networks Certification Program was renamed the HPE Networking Certification Program. At the same time, logins to Alpine CertMetrics moved to hpe.com credentials, and proctored written exams are now scheduled, managed and launched through Alpine CertMetrics.
The announcement does not list any change to certification names such as JNCIS-SEC, to exam codes, or to validity. If you are booking the JN0-336 exam now, the practical difference is where you log in and schedule, not what you study.
JN0-336 is the current JNCIS-SEC exam. Juniper announced the new exam on 24 July 2025 and set the end of life for JN0-335 at 1 September 2025, so JN0-335 can no longer be booked. Its predecessor, JN0-334, was retired in January 2023.
When you pick study material, check that it targets JN0-336 and Junos OS 24.4. Older material written for JN0-335 or JN0-334 may miss topics or describe behaviour from earlier Junos releases.

How much does the JNCIS-SEC exam cost?
Juniper does not print a JN0-336 exam fee on the JNCIS-SEC overview page or in its Certification Program Policies. The policies only state that exam fees apply to no-shows and same-day forfeits; the fee itself is shown when you schedule.
Two cost rules are worth knowing before you book. A failed attempt means paying again, and after a second or later failure you must wait 14 calendar days before retesting. Once you pass, you cannot sit the same exam again for at least 18 months.

JNCIS-SEC exam format and passing score
The JN0-336 exam has 65 multiple-choice questions and a time limit of 90 minutes, which leaves a little under 1.4 minutes per question. It is offered only in English. You see your pass/fail status immediately after the exam, and Juniper’s policies say valid results appear in CertMetrics within three business days.
There is no published pass mark. The policies state that passing scores are set by statistical analysis for each individual test, may differ between exams, and that HPE Networking does not publish them. Any percentage quoted elsewhere is not an official figure, so the only safe target is solid coverage of every topic below.

What is on the JNCIS-SEC exam?
Juniper lists seven objective areas for JN0-336. Each one has two kinds of objectives: identifying concepts, benefits or operation, and demonstrating how to configure, monitor or troubleshoot. Expect operational questions about show commands and configuration hierarchy, not only definitions. Juniper does not publish a weighting per topic.
- Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) — IDP database management, IDP policy
- IPsec VPN — tunnel establishment, traffic processing, site-to-site VPNs, Juniper Secure Connect
- Juniper Advanced Threat Prevention (ATP) Cloud — security feeds, remediation, Encrypted Traffic Insights, DNS and IoT security, adaptive threat profiling
- High Availability (HA) Clustering — chassis cluster operation, real-time objects and state synchronisation
- Identity-Aware Security Policies — Juniper Identity Management Service (JIMS), ports, protocols and data flow
- SSL Proxy — certificates, client and server protection
- Security Director — deployment options, onboarding devices, security policy management

JNCIS-SEC prerequisites
You need JNCIA-SEC before you can earn JNCIS-SEC. The associate exam was itself updated in 2025: JN0-232 replaced JN0-231 from 4 August 2025.
Above JNCIS-SEC sits JNCIP-SEC, whose current exam is JN0-637. Passing the professional-level exam in the same track also recertifies an active JNCIS-SEC, so moving up keeps the specialist credential current.

JNCIS-SEC training and study guide
The official recommended training is Juniper’s Juniper Security course. Alongside it, the certification page links practice exams, exam prep webinars and further resources. Juniper notes that none of these is required, and that using them does not guarantee a pass.
The most reliable study guide is the objective list itself. Work through each bullet twice: once to explain the concept, once to configure and verify it on an SRX or vSRX lab. The configure-monitor-troubleshoot wording appears in every objective, so hands-on time is not optional.
Watch the version: the objectives refer to Junos OS 24.4 and to Junos Space Security Director. Check that lab images and notes match.

JNCIS-SEC dumps and exam rules
Juniper’s policies state that exam content may not be copied, reproduced, published, uploaded or posted, or shared without authorisation, and that penalties can include revoked exam results and a ban from the certification programme. A dump of JN0-336 questions is exactly that kind of shared content.
Leaked questions are also a weak way to prepare: they are often outdated, frequently wrong, and they cannot teach the troubleshooting judgement the exam tests.

How long is JNCIS-SEC valid and how do you recertify?
Juniper certifications are active for three years. To keep JNCIS-SEC, pass the specialist-level exam in the same track again, pass the professional-level exam (JNCIP-SEC), or complete the specified or a higher-level course in the security track before the certification expires. If you do none of these within the three years, it expires.

JNCIS-SEC practice questions
Certsqill’s JNCIS-SEC practice questions are expert-developed and mapped to the seven JN0-336 objective areas. Every question explains each answer option — why the right one is right and why each distractor fails — so a miss teaches you the underlying Junos behaviour, not just a letter.
Your readiness score is shown per domain, so you can see whether IPsec VPN, clustering or ATP Cloud is holding you back before you spend an exam attempt. Certsqill comes with a 7-day money-back guarantee.
