JNCIA certification: the JNCIA-Junos exam, cost and objectives
The JNCIA certification most people mean is JNCIA-Junos, Juniper’s associate-level Junos OS credential. It is earned with one exam, JN0-106: 65 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, in English only, delivered by Pearson VUE. Juniper sets no prerequisites, does not publish a passing score, and keeps the certification valid for three years.

What is the JNCIA certification?
JNCIA is the associate level of the Juniper Networks Certification Program, the first of four tiers: Associate (JNCIA), Specialist (JNCIS), Professional (JNCIP) and Expert (JNCIE). There are several JNCIA certifications — JNCIA-Junos, JNCIA-DevOps, JNCIA-Cloud, JNCIA-DC, JNCIA-Design, JNCIA-MistAI and JNCIA-SEC — but when people say “JNCIA” without a suffix, they almost always mean JNCIA-Junos.
JNCIA-Junos covers networking fundamentals and the Junos operating system: the user interfaces, configuration basics, monitoring and maintenance, routing fundamentals, and routing policy and firewall filters. Juniper describes it as designed for networking professionals with beginner-to-intermediate knowledge of networking.
It is also the baseline certification for more than one track. JNCIA-Junos is the associate rung of both the Enterprise Routing and Switching track and the Service Provider Routing and Switching track, and it is the stated prerequisite for JNCIS-ENT (exam JN0-352). Juniper is now part of HPE, and the official pages refer to HPE Juniper Networking; the certification names have not changed.

How much does the JNCIA certification cost?
Juniper does not state a list price on the JNCIA-Junos overview or in its program policies. We would rather say that than repeat a figure Juniper does not publish on the pages we can cite.
What Juniper does publish is a discounted route. The JNCIA-Junos course is free, as are the optional Networking Technology Foundations course and a CCNA to JNCIA-Junos course. Complete the modules and pass the Voucher Assessment Test with 70% or higher, and Juniper gives you a 75% discount on the live exam, “making it just $50”. The voucher is valid for 30 days from issue, and one voucher is issued per exam.
One cost rule from the program policies is worth knowing before you book: cancelling or rescheduling less than 24 hours before the appointment incurs a same-day forfeit exam fee. Juniper does not state the amount.

What is the JNCIA exam format?
JN0-106 has 65 multiple-choice questions and a 90-minute limit. It is delivered by Pearson VUE, and Juniper states you can take its certification exams from home or office. The exam is offered in English only and is based on Junos OS 21.2.
You see your pass/fail status immediately after the exam. Juniper’s policies add that results determined valid appear in CertMetrics, its certification records system, within three business days.
Retakes follow a published rule: after a first failure you can retake at any time; after a second and any later failure you wait 14 calendar days; once you have passed, you must wait at least 18 months before taking the same exam again.

JNCIA passing score
Juniper does not publish one. Its program policies state that passing scores are set by statistical analysis for each individual test, that they might not be consistent across exams, and that HPE Networking does not publish exam passing scores. Juniper also reserves the right to revise an exam score after testing.
For preparation this means there is no percentage to aim at. With 65 questions spread across seven objectives and no published weighting, the safe plan is to cover every objective rather than bank on the ones you already know.

What is on the JNCIA-Junos exam?
Juniper lists seven exam objectives for JN0-106. It does not publish a percentage weighting for them, so treat them as equally important unless Juniper states otherwise:
The list moves from general networking to Junos-specific work. Four of the seven objectives — Junos OS fundamentals, user interfaces, configuration basics, and operational monitoring and maintenance — are about the operating system itself, so general networking knowledge alone does not cover the exam.
- Networking Fundamentals
- Junos OS Fundamentals
- User Interfaces
- Configuration Basics
- Operational Monitoring and Maintenance
- Routing Fundamentals
- Routing Policy and Firewall Filters

JNCIA prerequisites
Juniper lists the prerequisite certification for JNCIA-Junos as “None”. There is no degree or documented experience requirement.
It works the other way round: JNCIA-Junos is itself the prerequisite for the next level. JNCIS-ENT, the specialist rung of the enterprise track, lists JNCIA-Junos as its prerequisite certification.

How long is the JNCIA certification valid?
Juniper certifications are valid for three years. If you do not renew within that period, the certification expires, and an expired certification has to be earned again from the beginning of the track.
To renew, pass the appropriate exam again or earn a higher-level certification in the same track before expiry. Juniper states that passing an exam or taking a course at a higher level renews all lower-level active certifications in the same track, as well as all other active associate-level certifications. Taking the specified or a higher-level course in the same track before expiry is also listed as a recertification route.

JNCIA study materials and training
Juniper recommends two courses: Networking Technology Foundations and Introduction to the Junos Operating System. It states clearly that these are not required and do not guarantee a pass.
The JNCIA-Junos course itself is free through Juniper’s free training programme, which also leads to the 75% exam discount. For engineers coming from Cisco, Juniper offers a free CCNA to JNCIA-Junos course.

JNCIA vs CCNA
Both are associate-level, single-exam networking certifications with no prerequisites and a three-year validity. Cisco’s CCNA (200-301) is listed at $US300 for 120 minutes; Juniper’s JNCIA-Junos (JN0-106) is 65 questions in 90 minutes, with no list price published but a $50 route through free training.
The real difference is the platform. CCNA is Cisco’s certification for Cisco networks; JNCIA-Junos is built around Juniper’s Junos OS. Neither vendor requires the other’s certification, and Juniper’s free CCNA to JNCIA-Junos course exists precisely for people who hold one and want the other.

JNCIA exam price: how the $50 voucher route works
Juniper still publishes no list price for JN0-106, so the only JNCIA exam price it states is the discounted one: pass the Voucher Assessment Test and the live exam costs $50, which Juniper describes as 75% off. The conditions are worth knowing before you start, because they are strict:
If you would rather sit the exam at a Pearson VUE test centre, the voucher route does not apply, and you pay the regular fee, which Juniper does not state on its certification pages.
- Complete all modules of the free course and score 70% or higher on the Voucher Assessment Test.
- Take the test within 60 days of registering; you have three attempts to earn the voucher.
- The voucher is valid for 30 days from issue — schedule and sit the exam inside that window.
- It can only be used for Pearson VUE online proctoring, not at a testing centre.
- Course materials stay available for six months.

JNCIA training: what Juniper offers for free
Juniper’s free JNCIA training consists of the Junos, Associate (JNCIA-Junos) course, an optional Networking Technology Foundations course for people new to networking, and a CCNA to JNCIA-Junos course for engineers coming from Cisco. Juniper also runs an exam-prep webinar for the JNCIA track; it says the live sessions are optional but a good chance to hear key concepts explained by a subject matter expert.
Is a JNCIA bootcamp worth paying for? Juniper itself lists no JNCIA-Junos bootcamp on its free training page, and its recommended courses are explicitly not required and do not guarantee a pass. A paid bootcamp only makes sense if you want an instructor and a fixed schedule; check that it targets JN0-106 and Junos OS 21.2, covers all seven objectives, and whether it includes an exam voucher — since the free route already gets you a $50 exam.

Using the objectives as your JNCIA study guide
Juniper presents the seven exam objectives as the scope of JN0-106, so treat them as the syllabus. The most dependable JNCIA study guide is therefore your own checklist built from them: for each objective, can you explain it and do it on a Junos device?
Four of the seven objectives are about Junos itself — fundamentals, user interfaces, configuration basics, and operational monitoring and maintenance. General networking experience helps least there, so plan hands-on time on a Junos device: committing and rolling back configurations, reading operational output, and knowing the difference between configuration and operational mode.

JNCIA practice test and practice exam: what to look for
A realistic JNCIA practice exam mirrors the real one: 65 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, in English, spread across all seven objectives. Because Juniper publishes neither a passing score nor a weighting, aim to be comfortable in every objective rather than chasing a percentage.
Juniper’s own Voucher Assessment Test is also a useful first JNCIA practice test: it is free with the course and needs 70% to earn the voucher, so passing it tells you the course content has stuck. Certsqill’s JNCIA practice questions are expert-developed, and every question explains each answer option.

Why not JNCIA dumps?
Juniper’s program policies state that exam questions, answers and diagrams are the proprietary and confidential property of HPE Networking and may not be copied, reproduced, published, posted or distributed without authorisation. Candidates must take no action that compromises the integrity or confidentiality of an exam, and signing the candidate agreement is required to be certified.
An exam dump is exactly that kind of copied content. Juniper states that penalties for violating the policy can include revoking exam results and banning candidates from the certification program. Beyond the rules, a dump cannot tell you whether its answers are correct.
