AI-900 and AI-901: cost, exam format and practice questions
Azure AI Fundamentals is Microsoft’s beginner-level AI certification, and the exam behind it is now AI-901. Most people still search for AI-900. Microsoft states the passing score as 700 on a scale of 1 to 1,000, and bases the price on the country or region in which the exam is proctored.
Certsqill has 1,300 AI-901 practice questions, each with an explanation for every answer option, and a 0–100 readiness score broken down by exam domain. 20 questions are free, no signup.

AI-900 vs AI-901: which exam exists?
Start here, because the search results are split. AI-900 vs AI-901 is not a comparison of two certifications — it is one certification whose exam code moved. Microsoft’s Azure AI Fundamentals page lists the required exam as “Exam AI-901: Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals”, and notes that the English version of the certification was updated on 15 April 2026. Checked 24 September 2026.
So if you are booking now, you are booking AI-901. If your study material says AI-900, check when it was written: the current study guide is built around two skill areas, and the second of them is Microsoft Foundry, which older material will not cover.
Microsoft shows no retirement date for the certification itself, so this page states none.

What is AI-900?
AI-900 is the beginner-level Microsoft certification for artificial intelligence on Azure — now sat as exam AI-901. It proves you can identify AI concepts and capabilities and put AI solutions together on Microsoft’s platform, rather than build models from scratch.
Microsoft names no prerequisites. It sits alongside AZ-900 in the fundamentals family, and the difference between the two is one of subject, not level — one covers Azure broadly, the other artificial intelligence on it.

What is the exam format and passing score?
The passing score is 700. Microsoft reports all technical exam scores on a scale of 1 to 1,000 and states that 700 or greater is a pass — a scaled score, not a share of questions answered correctly.
Microsoft publishes no question count for this exam, and, unlike the AZ-900 page, its certification page carries no duration in minutes either. So any fixed figure for either comes from somewhere other than Microsoft.
What Microsoft does publish is the weighting of the two skill areas:
- Identify AI concepts and capabilities — 40–45%
- Implement AI solutions by using Microsoft Foundry — 55–60%

How much does it cost?
Microsoft shows no amount on the certification or exam page. It states that the price is based on the country or region in which the exam is proctored, so the figure appears at registration. Checked 10 October 2026.
The exam is offered in thirteen languages, including German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Russian, Portuguese (Brazil), Indonesian, Arabic and both Chinese scripts.

Where can you find AI-900 practice questions?
This site holds 1,300 practice questions for the exam. Every question shows all options, which one is correct, and why each of the others is wrong — on a fundamentals paper, the wrong answers are usually the service that does something adjacent.
What you will not find here are AI-900 dumps. Dumps, cheat sheets and files sold as “exam questions and answers pdf” mean recycled live exam content. These questions are written against Microsoft’s published study guide instead — which matters more than usual here, because the exam code and the second skill area both changed in 2026.
Because 700 sits on a scaled range rather than a share of questions, no practice percentage converts into a Microsoft score. What practice can tell you is which of the two skill areas still costs you points.
What study guide and material do you need?
Microsoft publishes the study guide, and it is the document that defines what is in scope. Older references call it the AI-900 study guide, but the current one is published under AI-901. Microsoft also runs an exam sandbox. Its certification page states that learning paths or modules are not yet available for this certification; the exam page lists the course AI-901T00-A, Introduction to AI in Azure — one day, beginner level, instructor-led or self-paced — and a practice assessment on AI Skills Navigator. Checked 10 October 2026.
Given the 2026 update, the edition question is the whole question here. Material written for the older code will not cover Microsoft Foundry, which now carries 55–60% of the exam.

AI-900 vs AI-102 and AZ-900
AI-900 vs AI-102 is a level question: this exam is fundamentals, AI-102 is the associate-level exam for people who build and deploy AI solutions on Azure. Microsoft sets no requirement to take the fundamentals exam first.
AZ-900 vs AI-900 is a subject question at the same level — Azure broadly against artificial intelligence on Azure. Both are beginner-level, and neither is a prerequisite for the other.

Is AI-900 worth it?
Microsoft publishes no salary data and no pass rate, so this page states neither.
What it does publish is the entry path — no prerequisites, two skill areas with stated weightings, thirteen languages, a practice assessment and, listed on the exam page, a one-day official course. The price is set by country or region and shown at registration; the other missing pieces are the duration and the question count.

One practical tip from Microsoft’s own certification page: register with a personal Microsoft account rather than a work or school account. Students and educators can schedule through Certiport, which the page links.

The official AI-901 course
Microsoft’s AI-901 course is AI-901T00-A, Introduction to AI in Azure. It runs one day, is rated beginner, and can be taken instructor-led or as self-paced study. Microsoft aims it at aspiring technology professionals at the beginning of their career in AI solution development.
The course page recommends some knowledge of Python syntax and of core cloud concepts — cloud storage, compute, authentication and authorisation — before you start. The exam page asks for Python knowledge too, so if you have never written Python, add it to your plan before the course rather than after.
