What is the Neo4j Certified Professional certification?
The Neo4j Certified Professional is the general certification Neo4j offers through GraphAcademy, its own learning platform. It confirms practical working knowledge of the Neo4j platform: writing Cypher, modelling graph data, importing data, managing schema and indexes, and building applications with the official drivers.
It is aimed at developers, data engineers and architects who use Neo4j in their work, and at people who want a recognised proof that they can. Because the exam is free and there are no entry requirements, it is also a sensible checkpoint after working through the GraphAcademy courses.
When you pass, GraphAcademy issues the certificate immediately. It is hosted on GraphAcademy and carries a unique verification URL, so an employer or client can confirm it without asking you for a PDF.

How much does the Neo4j certification cost?
Nothing. Neo4j states that all GraphAcademy certifications are completely free, and that covers registering, taking the exam and retaking it. There is no voucher to buy and no membership to hold.
That changes how you should treat the first attempt. A failed attempt costs you a 24-hour wait, not a fee, so the exam itself is a reasonable way to find out where you stand — as long as you use the score breakdown to study the weak topics before trying again.

Neo4j certification exam format
The Neo4j Certified Professional exam is an online exam of 80 questions with a 60-minute time limit. Question types are multiple choice, multiple select and hands-on Cypher, where you write queries against a demo dataset. Six of the 80 items are hands-on challenges.
The exam is open book: Neo4j allows you to consult the Neo4j documentation during the exam. Do not plan on looking everything up, though. Sixty minutes for 80 questions is under a minute per item, and Neo4j itself notes that the questions test working knowledge. The documentation helps with a syntax detail, not with a topic you have never used.
Your score is shown as soon as you submit. Neo4j does not publish which Neo4j version the questions are written against, so prepare on a current release and the current documentation.

Neo4j certification passing score
You need 80% to pass the Neo4j Certified Professional exam. On 80 questions that means you can afford to miss very few — this is a high bar compared with many vendor certifications.
With Cypher making up 32 of the 80 questions, a weak Cypher foundation alone can push you under the line. The practical consequence: be fluent in reading and writing queries, not just familiar with the keywords.

GraphAcademy publishes the topic split as a number of questions rather than a percentage. Cypher dominates with 40% of the exam; the remaining topics each carry between 6 and 11 questions, plus the hands-on challenges.

Neo4j certification prerequisites
There are no prerequisites. Neo4j recommends its prerequisite courses but states they are not required, and that candidates with equivalent on-the-job experience can register for the exam directly.
The recommended path on the certification page is a short sequence of free GraphAcademy courses: Neo4j Fundamentals, Cypher Fundamentals, Graph Data Modeling Fundamentals, Importing Data Fundamentals, Using Neo4j with Python, and Neo4j & GenerativeAI Fundamentals. Retakes and validity
If you do not reach 80%, you can retake the exam after 24 hours. Neo4j sets no limit on attempts and charges nothing for them. Use the waiting period on the topics where you lost points rather than simply trying again.
Neo4j certifications do not formally expire. Neo4j recommends recertifying about every two years so that your certificate reflects the current version of the platform and newer topics.

Neo4j certification study materials
The authoritative material is Neo4j’s own: the GraphAcademy courses listed above and the Neo4j documentation, which you are also allowed to use during the exam. Learning your way around the documentation is therefore part of the preparation, not a side task.
A sensible order is to work through the fundamentals courses, then write Cypher against a real dataset until common patterns — matching paths, aggregating, creating and merging data, using indexes and constraints — come without looking them up. Finish with the drivers and import topics, which carry 14 questions together.

Neo4j exam dumps
Leaked question collections are not a reliable way to prepare for an exam that is free, open book and partly hands-on. The Cypher challenges ask you to write working queries against a dataset, and a memorised answer does not help when the query has to run.
Since retakes cost nothing, the honest route is also the cheapest: learn the topics, take the exam, and use the result to target what you missed.
