What is the Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate certification?

The Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate certification is Oracle’s credential for SQL on Oracle Database: writing queries, joining tables, using functions, subqueries and set operators, changing data with DML and defining objects with DDL. It is an associate-level certification within Oracle’s certification programme.

Oracle Academy states it plainly: this Oracle Certified Associate certification is awarded only to candidates who pass the Oracle Database SQL exam, 1Z0-071. There is no second exam and no required course, so the Oracle Database SQL certified associate 1Z0-071 route is simply: prepare, book, pass.

Whether you call it an Oracle SQL certification, an Oracle SQL associate certification or an Oracle SQL certified associate certification, the official name in Oracle’s programme is Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate.

1Z0-071 exam format: questions, time and passing score

Oracle University’s published exam list gives the 1Z0-071 exam as 73 questions in 100 minutes, with a passing score of 63%. That is about 80 seconds per question — tight for questions that ask you to read a SQL statement and predict its exact result.

One caution on numbers: Oracle Japan’s 2023 overview of the Japanese-language version, 1Z0-071-JPN, gives 120 minutes and 78 questions, with the same 63% pass mark. Exam versions and languages can differ, so confirm the duration and question count shown when you book your exam.

How much does the Oracle Database SQL certification cost?

We could not confirm a 1Z0-071 price from Oracle today. Oracle’s exam pages did not load for us, and the price Oracle University quotes in its blog applies to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure exams, not to this one. Oracle Academy only notes that there are costs associated with Oracle professional certification exams.

Oracle’s certification guidelines explain how pricing works: you either buy an exam voucher through Oracle University, usually in local currency, or buy the exam directly from Pearson VUE, and Oracle tells candidates to check prices at pearsonvue.com/oracle. Oracle also sells exam subscriptions — the Oracle Technology Exam Subscription covers one single-use exam for a technology certification — and its learning subscriptions include three exam attempts.

How to take the 1Z0-071 exam

Oracle names Pearson VUE as its test vendor. Pearson VUE’s Oracle page offers two ways to sit an Oracle exam: at a test centre, or at your own location through OnVUE online proctoring.

If you fail, Oracle’s retake policy lets you schedule a retake, with an earliest appointment date set from the failed attempt; each attempt needs its own exam purchase. Once you have passed, Oracle does not allow you to retake the same exam.

1Z0-071 syllabus: what is on the exam?

The current English exam topics are listed on Oracle’s exam page, which we could not load today. The most recent official topic list we could read is Oracle Japan’s 2023 document for the Japanese version of the same exam, 1Z0-071-JPN. It groups the syllabus into these areas:

Who should take the Oracle SQL certification?

Because the credential needs only one exam and has no stated prerequisites, it suits anyone who wants proof of Oracle SQL skills: application developers, data and BI analysts, testers who write queries, and people starting towards Oracle database administration.

It is not a beginner’s course, though. Oracle University describes its own exam preparation seminar as intended for people with an existing solid foundation in Oracle SQL. Plan to write and run a lot of SQL against a real Oracle database before you book — reading about joins is not the same as predicting what a three-table outer join returns.

Oracle 1Z0-071 study and training options

Oracle’s own preparation material sits on Oracle MyLearn, which Oracle’s guidelines point candidates to as the legitimate source. Oracle University offers a video Certification Exam Preparation Seminar for Oracle Database SQL; Oracle describes it as for exam review purposes only, so it works best after you have learned the material, not instead of it.

A practical study and prep plan: work through the topic areas above with hands-on practice, then take timed practice questions to test speed as well as accuracy. With roughly 80 seconds per question and a 63% pass mark, the gap between “I know this” and “I can answer it under time pressure” is where most of the preparation goes.

1Z0-071 dumps and Oracle’s rules

Oracle addresses 1Z0-071 dumps and similar offers directly. Its certification guidelines state that it is strictly prohibited to disclose or share the content of any Oracle Certification exam, and they advise candidates to use Oracle’s materials on MyLearn to avoid exam dump websites and offers.

The consequences Oracle lists include certification revocation, future exam bans and forfeiture of exam results. A dump also does not teach you SQL, which is the skill an employer expects when they see this certification.

Does the Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate expire?

Oracle’s guidelines say that certain Oracle Database credentials require periodic recertification and give fixed validity periods for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Cloud Applications certifications. They do not name this credential in either rule, so check the status shown in your Oracle certification account after you pass rather than assuming a renewal date.
