Six Sigma Black Belt salary and career value
ASQ, which issues the Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, publishes pay by Six Sigma credential in its Quality Progress salary survey — but the full figures are for members only. Certsqill does not quote salary numbers it cannot source, so this page explains what ASQ says, what the role involves, and how to judge the value of the certification for your own situation.

What is the Six Sigma Black Belt salary according to ASQ?
ASQ’s magazine Quality Progress runs an annual salary survey. Its December 2023 edition includes a section titled “Salary by Six Sigma Credentials”, and ASQ summarises it with one sentence: “Those who complete Six Sigma training earn significantly higher pay than others.”
The detailed figures sit behind ASQ’s professional membership. Because we could not read them, no six sigma black belt salary figure appears on this page. If pay data is the deciding factor for you, the ASQ survey is the source closest to the certification itself; read its methodology — who responded, which countries, which credentials — before comparing it with anything else.

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt salary
The same limitation applies to a lean six sigma black belt salary. ASQ’s credential is named Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, and the survey section is organised by Six Sigma credential; ASQ publishes no separate public figure for a “lean” black belt. Salary claims attached to a training provider’s lean certificate come from that provider, not from a certifying body.

Six Sigma Master Black Belt salary
The six sigma master black belt salary question has the same answer: no public ASQ figure we could verify. What ASQ does describe is the role. A Master Black Belt trains and coaches Black Belts and Green Belts, works at programme level by developing key metrics and strategic direction, and acts as the organisation’s Six Sigma technologist and internal consultant.
To hold ASQ’s Master Black Belt you need a current CSSBB and either five years in a Black Belt or Master Black Belt role or ten completed Black Belt projects, plus a portfolio review. That makes it a senior credential by design.

Is a Six Sigma Black Belt worth it?
Without a salary number, the honest way to judge value is the role and the cost. ASQ describes a Black Belt as someone who leads problem-solving projects and trains and coaches project teams; a Green Belt assists with data collection and analysis for Black Belt projects. If your job is — or is about to become — leading improvement projects, the Black Belt describes what you do.
On the cost side, ASQ’s exam fee is US$585 (members save US$100), you need three years of full-time, paid experience and completed project work first, and you recertify every three years with 18 recertification units or a retake. Unlike the Green Belt, which ASQ treats as lifetime, the Black Belt carries that ongoing commitment.

What the certification proves to an employer
The CSSBB is checked at two points: ASQ reviews your experience and project affidavit before you may sit the exam, and the exam itself is proctored, with a published pass mark of 550 out of 750. That is the difference between an independent credential and a course certificate, and it is the part an employer can verify.

CSSBB salary & career value: questions people ask
What is the average Six Sigma Black Belt salary?
ASQ publishes pay by Six Sigma credential in its Quality Progress salary survey, but the figures are for members, so no average is quoted here. Checked 10 October 2026.
Is there official master black belt Six Sigma salary data?
ASQ’s salary survey covers Six Sigma credentials, but we could not read figures for the Master Black Belt in the public part of it.
What is the lean six sigma master black belt salary?
No certifying-body figure we could verify. ASQ’s credential is the Six Sigma Master Black Belt, and its salary data is behind membership.
Is Black Belt Six Sigma worth it compared with Green Belt?
If you lead projects rather than support them, yes in terms of fit: that is how ASQ separates the two roles. It costs more and, unlike the Green Belt, must be renewed every three years.
Is lean six sigma black belt worth it if the certificate is from a training company?
That depends on the provider. A certificate without an independent, proctored exam and checked project work proves less than a credential like the ASQ CSSBB.
