Check Point Certified Security Expert (CCSE): R82 exam, prerequisites and retakes
The Check Point Certified Security Expert (CCSE) is the step above CCSA in Check Point’s security certification track. The current exam is 156-315.82 for R82, delivered by Pearson VUE; the R81.20 exam was retired on 30 June 2026. You need the CCSA first. Check Point’s own exam details — price, number of questions, time and passing score — could not be read publicly, so this page quotes none of them.

What is the Check Point Certified Security Expert certification?
CCSE is Check Point’s expert-level certification for its security gateway and management platform. It sits directly above the Check Point Certified Security Administrator (CCSA), which Check Point requires before you can sit the CCSE exam.
The exams are tied to Check Point software versions. The current CCSE exam is for R82, so the version printed on your study material matters as much as its title.
In Check Point’s structure the CCSE is also a gate for further credentials. Pearson VUE’s list of Check Point prerequisites shows, for example, that the Certified Troubleshooting Expert (CCTE) requires a passed CCSE exam of version R80 or later.

CCSE R82: the current exam and the R81.20 retirement
Check Point announced its R82 exams on its CheckMates community in October 2025. The CCSE exam is 156-315.82, “Check Point Certified Security Expert – R82”, alongside a new CCSA exam and official practice exams for both.
The same announcement set retirement dates for the older exams. The Japanese-only R81 CCSE exam (156-315.81) retired on 31 December 2025, and the R81.20 CCSE exam (156-315.81.20) retired on 30 June 2026.
If you studied for R81.20, the exam you book now is R82. Check which version your study material covers before you rely on it.

CCSE prerequisites
Pearson VUE’s Check Point page states that the CCSA certification is the prerequisite for the CCSE. Its prerequisite table spells out the rule as it applied to the R81.20 exam: the candidate must have passed a CCSA or CCSE exam, version R80 and up, to qualify.
In practice that means CCSA first, then CCSE. If you passed CCSA on an older version, check with Pearson VUE or Check Point whether it still qualifies before you pay for the CCSE exam.

How much does the CCSE exam cost?
Pearson VUE’s Check Point page does not show the CCSE exam price, and Check Point’s own certification pages could not be read on the public web for this article. We therefore quote no figure.
The price appears when you register through Pearson VUE. Two published costs are worth knowing: the official CCSE practice exam costs US$50, and rescheduling within five days of your appointment (but more than 24 hours before) carries a US$50 service fee.

CCSE exam format and passing score
Check Point publishes the exam details — number of questions, time limit, passing score and topics — in its CCSE Exam Prep Guide on checkpoint.com. That guide could not be read on the public web for this page, so this page states none of those numbers.
What is published by Pearson VUE is how the exam is delivered: at a Pearson VUE test center or online through OnVUE. Read the R82 Exam Prep Guide before you book; Check Point released a free guide for each R82 exam.

How to book the CCSE exam and the retake policy
Check Point states that all its exams are delivered by Pearson VUE. You book through Pearson VUE’s Check Point page, where you can find a test center or choose online testing.
Mind the rescheduling rules. For a full refund you must notify Pearson VUE at least five days (120 hours) before your appointment; inside that window a US$50 service fee applies, and appointments cannot be rescheduled within 24 hours of the start time.
If you fail, Pearson VUE’s Check Point policy requires a 24-hour wait before the next attempt. After the second attempt you must wait 30 days for the third and any later attempts.
The short first wait is tempting, but rebooking the next day rarely changes the outcome. Find the weak topics and fix those before the second attempt, because the 30-day wait that follows it slows everything down.

Official CCSE study materials
Check Point’s own material comes in two forms. The CCSE Exam Prep Guide is free for each R82 exam; Check Point notes that the guides are not a substitute for the class course documentation, which points to the official CCSE course as the main study resource.
Check Point also sells official practice exams through Pearson VUE. The CCSE R82 practice exam is 156-610; Pearson VUE describes these as 40-question exams for US$50, drawn from a subset of questions from the actual exam.

CCSA vs CCSE
CCSA and CCSE are consecutive steps, not alternatives. CCSA is the administrator level and the prerequisite; CCSE is the expert level that builds on it. Both exist as R82 exams, and both have an official practice exam on Pearson VUE.
If you work with Check Point gateways but still need CCSA, start there. CCSE assumes you already handle the administration topics without thinking about them.

CCSE exam dumps
Dumps are not a reliable way to prepare. With the switch from R81.20 to R82 in 2026, material collected for the old exam may not match the current one, and there is no way to check whether answers are even correct.
Check Point’s policy documents could not be read on the public web for this page, so we make no claim about specific sanctions. Prepare from the official course, the Exam Prep Guide and hands-on lab work.
CCSE practice questions
Certsqill’s CCSE practice questions are expert-developed and come with an explanation for every answer option, so each wrong answer points to the concept you misunderstood.
Your results build a readiness score per exam domain, which tells you where you stand before you pay for the real exam and risk the 30-day wait after a second attempt. Every plan comes with a 7-day money-back guarantee.
