How much does the Security+ exam cost?

CompTIA Security Plus exam cost: where the price is shown

CompTIA’s own guidance is short: “You must buy an exam voucher to get access to the certification exam.” When you schedule through CompTIA Central and Pearson VUE, the last step is to pay with a credit card or an exam voucher.

The Security+ V7 and V8 pages carry no price, only “Buy now” links to vouchers and bundles. The price for your region appears in the CompTIA store. Figures you see elsewhere may be out of date or tied to a reseller, so compare them with the store before you pay.

What a CompTIA Security Plus exam voucher buys

A CompTIA Security Plus voucher is a prepaid entry to one exam. CompTIA’s voucher terms set the rules, and they are worth reading before you buy:

• One voucher covers one exam, unless it includes a retake.
• Vouchers are exam series specific, and in some cases exam code specific.
• A voucher is valid for the period printed on it, and the expiry date cannot be extended.
• Voucher purchases are final: no returns, refunds or exchanges.
• CompTIA may retire an exam before a voucher’s expiry date.

Security Plus vouchers on their own or in a bundle

Security Plus vouchers are sold on their own and inside CompTIA bundles. On the Security+ V7 page CompTIA lists three bundles, each with a voucher that includes Retake Assurance:

• Practice and Exam Bundle with Retake — CertMaster Practice and a voucher with Retake Assurance.
• Learn and Exam Bundle with Retake — CertMaster Learn and a voucher with Retake Assurance.
• Complete Bundle with Retake — CertMaster Learn, Labs and Practice, and a voucher with Retake Assurance.

What a Security+ retake costs

CompTIA’s retake policy is clear: “Candidates must pay the exam price each time they attempt the exam.” There is no waiting period between the first and second attempt; before a third or later attempt you wait at least 14 calendar days.

Retake Assurance changes the maths only if you fail. Under the voucher terms you must first take and not pass the exam to activate the retake, and special retake vouchers are exam specific — they cannot be used for another version of the same exam.

The CompTIA Security Plus certification cost beyond the exam

The CompTIA Security Plus certification cost does not end at the voucher. When you add up a CompTIA security certification cost over its lifetime, include three more items:

• Training, if you buy it. CompTIA notes that classroom training costs “can range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars”; self-study with official CertMaster products is a separate purchase.
• Retakes, paid per attempt as above.
• Renewal every three years: 50 continuing education units and an annual CE fee, or a qualifying higher-level CompTIA certification. The CE pages give no fee amount.

Buy the voucher for the right version

CompTIA expects Security+ V8 on or around 17 November 2026, while SY0-701 retires for English on 11 June 2027. Because vouchers are exam series specific and CompTIA may retire an exam before a voucher expires, check which exam code a voucher covers and when it expires before you pay — especially if you plan to test in 2027.
