CompTIA Security+ training: courses, boot camps and online options
CompTIA does not require any training for Security+ — you can book the exam without a course. If you do want structured help, the choice is between CompTIA’s own CertMaster products and courses from other providers, online or in a classroom. Whatever you pick, check that it is built for the exam code you will sit.

What CompTIA Security Plus training needs to cover
Good CompTIA Security Plus training follows CompTIA’s five SY0-701 domains and their weights: security operations 28%, threats, vulnerabilities and mitigations 22%, security program management and oversight 20%, security architecture 18%, and general security concepts 12%.
The exam is a maximum of 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions in 90 minutes, passed at 750 on a scale of 100 to 900. A Security Plus training course that only lectures leaves the performance-based part to chance.

CompTIA security training from CompTIA itself: CertMaster
CompTIA’s own CompTIA Security Plus course is CertMaster Learn: an interactive, self-paced course with integrated videos and interactive activities, which CompTIA describes as ideal for use 90 to 180 days before your exam. Because it runs online, it is also CompTIA Security Plus online training straight from the exam owner.
Around it CompTIA sells CertMaster Labs, CertMaster Practice (timed practice exams, objective quizzes and exam objective mastery scores) and a combined Learn+Labs product. On the Security+ V7 page they are offered individually and in bundles with a voucher that includes Retake Assurance.

Choosing a CompTIA Security Plus boot camp
A Security Plus boot camp compresses the material into a short, intensive block, usually led by an instructor. It suits people who learn best with a deadline; it is risky for people who need time to practise. A Security Plus certification boot camp should pass these checks before you pay:
- It names the exam code it teaches — SY0-701 now, SY0-801 from around 17 November 2026.
- It covers all five domains, in roughly CompTIA’s proportions.
- It includes hands-on work for the performance-based questions.
- It includes practice questions with explanations, not only slides.
- If an exam voucher is included, it states which exam the voucher covers and when it expires.

What training costs
CompTIA notes that classroom training costs “depend on your choice and can range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars”. Prices for courses from other providers are set by those providers.
If a Security Plus certification bootcamp bundles an exam voucher, remember CompTIA’s voucher terms: vouchers are exam series specific, have a fixed expiry date that cannot be extended, and cannot be refunded. With V8 arriving, that matters more than usual.

Security Plus course online or classroom?
A Security Plus online course lets you set the pace, repeat difficult topics and fit study around work; a classroom gives you structure and an instructor to ask. Neither is better for everyone — the question is which you will actually finish.
If you choose online Security Plus training, check what “online” means: self-paced recordings, live virtual Security Plus training classes, or a mix. A Security Plus course online that is live has fixed times like a classroom; self-paced Security Plus training online needs your own discipline and a plan.
Free Security Plus training: what is genuinely free
The free official resource is CompTIA’s objectives summary on the Security+ V7 page, which lists every domain and its weight. CompTIA’s CertMaster courses are paid products.
Free Security Plus training beyond that varies a lot in quality and in which exam version it covers. Use the objectives as your checklist, and test yourself early: Certsqill offers a free Security+ practice test to start with, with an explanation for every option.

Security Plus certification training and the V8 change
CompTIA expects Security+ V8, exam SY0-801, on or around 17 November 2026, with reweighted domains and AI-related risks among the skills. SY0-701 retires for English on 11 June 2027.
So any Security Plus certification course you buy now must match the exam you will sit. If you will test before mid-2027, SY0-701 material is fine; if later, wait for courses written against SY0-801.

After the course: check you are ready
A course teaches; it does not tell you whether you would pass today. Certsqill’s expert-developed Security+ practice questions explain every answer option and give you a readiness score per exam domain, so you know what to revisit before booking. A 7-day money-back guarantee applies.
Security+ training & courses: questions people ask
Is Security Plus training required to take the exam?
No. CompTIA requires no training or application; it recommends Network+ and two years of relevant experience. Source: CompTIA Security+ V7 page, checked 9 October 2026.
Is there Security Plus training free from CompTIA?
CompTIA’s free resource is the objectives summary on its Security+ page. Its CertMaster courses are paid, sold individually or in bundles.
Is a CompTIA Security Plus bootcamp worth it?
It can be if you learn well under time pressure and it passes the basic checks: correct exam code, all five domains, hands-on work and practice with explanations. CompTIA notes classroom training can cost from a few hundred to several thousand dollars.
Does a CompTIA security bootcamp include the exam voucher?
Some courses include one, some do not. If yours does, check which exam the voucher covers and its expiry date — CompTIA vouchers are exam series specific and expiry dates cannot be extended.
What is the difference between CompTIA security courses from CompTIA and other providers?
CompTIA’s own courses are the CertMaster products for Security+. Other providers build their own courses; check each against CompTIA’s objectives and the exam code.
What should a CompTIA security course include for Security+?
All five domains of the exam you will sit, hands-on practice for the performance-based questions, and practice questions with explanations.
