Fortinet NSE 7 Secure Networking: exam, requirements and cost
NSE 7 Secure Networking is Fortinet’s architect-level certification for FortiGate, FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer, part of the eight-level NSE programme introduced on 15 July 2026. You need NSE 4 FortiOS and NSE 5 or NSE 6 Secure Networking, then pass the NSE 7 Secure Networking 7.6 Architect exam: 40–50 questions in 75 minutes, scored pass or fail. The exam costs US$200 until 1 November 2026 and US$400 from 2 November.

What is the Fortinet NSE 7 Secure Networking certification?
NSE 7 Secure Networking is the level-7 certification in the Secure Networking track of Fortinet’s NSE programme. Fortinet says it validates your ability to design, administer, monitor and troubleshoot Fortinet network security solutions, and it recommends the credential for cybersecurity professionals who design, manage, support and analyse infrastructures built on Fortinet products.
The product scope is broad: the current exam covers FortiGate 7.6, FortiManager 7.6 and FortiAnalyzer 7.6 together. Where NSE 4 proves you can administer a FortiGate, NSE 7 proves you can architect a multi-site network around it, with SD-WAN, central management and advanced IPsec.

What changed in the NSE programme on 15 July 2026?
On 15 July 2026 Fortinet restructured the NSE certification programme into eight levels. NSE 7 became a set of branching architect tracks, with Secure Networking Architect listed alongside SASE, Public Cloud Security and Security Operations architects. Every NSE 7 track now requires NSE 4, then NSE 5 or NSE 6 in the same track, then one proctored NSE 7 exam.
Fortinet’s training update page still marks Secure Networking Architect as “To be added in Q3 2026”, while the exam page itself already lists “Fortinet NSE 7 – Secure Networking 7.6 Architect” with the status Available. Rely on the exam page and the Pearson VUE booking screen for what you can schedule today.
For existing holders, Fortinet states that active FCSS certifications are mapped to NSE 6 or NSE 7 based on its July 15 mapping and your exam history. The exact mapping sits in a separate article, so check your own record in the Fortinet Training Institute rather than assuming which level you hold.

NSE 7 Secure Networking requirements
To earn NSE 7 Secure Networking you must hold the NSE 4 FortiOS certification and either NSE 5 Secure Networking or NSE 6 Secure Networking, and then pass the proctored NSE 7 Secure Networking exam. Fortinet requires the NSE 7 exam to be passed within two years of the last prerequisite exam.
Beyond the formal requirement, the exam page describes the recommended experience: three years of networking and three years of network security experience, plus two years of hands-on work with each of FortiGate, FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer. That is a realistic description of the candidate the questions are written for.

How much does the NSE 7 exam cost?
Fortinet’s training helpdesk states that until 2 November 2026 candidates can register for NSE exams at the current price of US$200 for NSE 4 to NSE 7. From 2 November 2026, NSE 7 exams and NSE 7 recertification assessments each cost US$400. Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax.
If you are ready, the date matters: booking before the change halves the exam fee. Note also that vouchers bought for Pearson VUE exams cannot be used for recertification assessments, and the reverse is also true.

NSE 7 Secure Networking exam format
The exam is “Fortinet NSE 7 – Secure Networking 7.6 Architect”. It has 40–50 questions with a 75-minute time limit, in English or Japanese. Question types are multiple choice and drag-and-drop.
You take it at a Pearson VUE test center or online through OnVUE. If you fail, you must wait 15 days before retaking it; once you have passed an exam, you cannot retake it.

NSE 7 passing score: how do you pass?
Fortinet does not publish a passing score for the NSE 7 exam. The result is reported as pass or fail, and the score report is available in your Pearson VUE account.
Two scoring rules are published and both shape your exam strategy. Answers must be 100% correct to receive credit, so a multi-select question with one wrong choice earns nothing. And there is no penalty for wrong answers, so never leave a question blank.

What is on the NSE 7 Secure Networking exam?
Fortinet publishes five topic areas with weighting ranges. Rules and routing and advanced IPsec each carry 25–35%, which means OSPF, BGP, SD-WAN rules and routing, IKEv2 design, multihub and multiregion deployments and ADVPN together can make up well over half of the exam.
Central management covers zero-touch provisioning and SD-WAN overlay management with FortiManager. Security profiles carry the smallest share and focus on SSL/SSH inspection and the use of web filtering, application control, IPS and ISDB.

How long is NSE 7 valid and how do you renew it?
NSE 7 Secure Networking is active for two years from the date of the NSE 7 exam or the last prerequisite exam, whichever is later. Fortinet’s recertification policy states that NSE certifications expire two years from the date they are issued.
You can renew by passing the subsequent version of the proctored exam or, where available, by completing a recertification assessment: a self-paced recertification course plus an online test. The assessment is only an option while your previous proctored exam is less than two years old and the certification has not expired, and your prerequisites must still be active.

NSE 7 exam dumps, salary and other questions
Fortinet’s candidate misconduct policy lists using prior knowledge of test content, using unauthorised test aids, and disclosing or discussing test content as misconduct. Fortinet may rescind exam scores, revoke certifications and restrict programme participation, with suspensions of three to twelve months. Exam dumps are exactly that kind of prior knowledge, so they put the certification at risk rather than helping you pass.
On salary, Fortinet does not publish salary figures for NSE 7 holders. Its training page cites its own research that 91% of organisations prefer to hire candidates with certifications, which says something about hiring preference but nothing about pay.
