The GitHub Administration certification is earned by passing Exam GH-100, delivered through Microsoft Learn and Pearson VUE. You get 100 minutes, need a score of 700 or greater, and take it in English with a proctor. The price depends on your country. What is the GitHub Administration certification?
GitHub Administration is GitHub’s certification for people who run GitHub Enterprise. Microsoft Learn, which hosts GitHub’s certifications, describes the GH-100 exam as designed for system administrators, software developers, application administrators and IT professionals with intermediate-level experience in GitHub Enterprise administration.
Candidates are expected to have experience administering GitHub Enterprise environments: user identity and access management, GitHub Actions, enterprise-level governance, and features that support secure software development such as GitHub Advanced Security. The study guide titles the exam “GitHub Enterprise Administrator”, which describes the job it tests.

How much does the GitHub Administration exam cost?
Microsoft does not publish a single price. The credential page states that the price is based on the country or region in which the exam is proctored, and the binding figure appears when you schedule through Pearson VUE.
One voucher case is documented: if your GitHub certification has already expired, GitHub offers one exam voucher to cover the cost of your first renewal attempt; you request it at [email protected].

GH-100 exam format
You have 100 minutes. The exam is proctored, offered in English only, and scheduled through Pearson VUE. Microsoft does not publish the number of questions and notes that you may have interactive components to complete.
Before exam day you can use the exam sandbox on Microsoft Learn, which shows the look and feel of the exam and lets you try the different question types in the same interface.

GitHub Administration passing score
The GH-100 study guide states that a score of 700 or greater is required to pass. Microsoft does not publish how that score maps to a number of correct answers, so do not read 700 as a percentage.

What is on the GitHub Administration exam?
GH-100 has five domains. Secure software development and compliance is the largest at 25–30%, followed by GitHub Actions at 20–25%; together they make up around half of the exam. That reflects what enterprise administration means in practice: rulesets, security features, runners and secrets, not just adding users.

The July 2026 GH-100 update
The study guide notes that the exam changed significantly in July 2026: new objectives were added, some were removed, existing objectives may have moved to different functional groups, and all were reworded.
If you started preparing earlier, compare your notes with the current skills outline. Study material written against the previous version will not match the domain structure above, and the rewording alone can make familiar topics look different on exam day.

Prerequisites and who should take it
Microsoft lists no formal prerequisite. The exam is rated Intermediate and tagged for the roles Administrator, DevOps Engineer and Technology Manager.
The real entry requirement is hands-on access to a GitHub Enterprise environment. Several objectives — deployment and licensing, runners, enterprise usage and activity — concern enterprise-level settings, so plan time in a test environment if your daily role does not give you that access.

How to prepare for the GitHub Administration exam
Start with the GH-100 study guide on Microsoft Learn; it is the authoritative list of skills measured. The credential page links a practice assessment, which Microsoft says gives an overview of the style, wording and difficulty of the questions you are likely to see, and the exam sandbox for the interface.
Work through the domains in order of weight: security and compliance first, then Actions, then identity and access. For each subskill, do the task in GitHub rather than only reading about it — configure a ruleset, enable a security feature, register a runner, store a secret.

Retakes, validity and renewal
If you fail, you can retake the exam 24 hours after the first attempt. For later retakes the waiting time varies; Microsoft’s exam retake policy has the details.
GitHub certifications are valid for two years. GitHub is moving to Microsoft’s recertification process, which will let holders maintain a certification without retaking the full exam. During the transition, GitHub certifications that expire before the new process is available are extended by six months.
