SSCP certification: exam cost, requirements and format
SSCP — Systems Security Certified Practitioner — is ISC2’s certification for hands-on security administrators. The exam costs US$249 in the Americas and since 1 October 2025 is adaptive: 100 to 125 items in two hours across seven domains. You need one year of paid work in an SSCP domain (a relevant degree can replace it) or can pass first and become an Associate of ISC2. Keeping it takes 60 CPE credits every three years and US$135 a year.

What is SSCP certification?
SSCP stands for Systems Security Certified Practitioner. The ISC2 SSCP certification is aimed at people who implement, monitor and administer IT infrastructure securely — the operational side of security rather than programme management. ISC2 pitches it at professionals moving into senior operational roles and team lead positions, and at military and DoD cybersecurity staff.
Compared with CISSP, the SSCP cert asks for far less experience: one year instead of five. That makes the Systems Security Certified Practitioner SSCP the ISC2 route for practitioners who are early in a hands-on security career.

SSCP certification cost
ISC2 lists the SSCP exam price as US$249 in the Americas, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, EUR 239.04 in Europe and GBP 201.69 in the United Kingdom. Taxes depend on where you test, and Pearson shows the exact amount in your currency at registration. Rescheduling costs US$50 and cancelling US$100.
So the SSCP certification price for a first-time pass is the exam fee; the ongoing cost of SSCP certification is the US$135 annual maintenance fee once certified. ISC2 says the first year of candidate membership is free. If your employer or a training bundle gives you an exam voucher, you enter the code at checkout for a $0 purchase.
- Exam: US$249 / EUR 239.04 / GBP 201.69
- Reschedule: US$50; cancel: US$100
- Annual maintenance fee after certification: US$135

SSCP requirements
ISC2 asks for one year of cumulative, paid work experience in one or more of the SSCP domains. Part-time work counts proportionally — two years at 50% equal one year — and a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree can satisfy the requirement on its own.
If you do not have the experience yet, you can still sit the SSCP exam. Pass it and you become an Associate of ISC2, then have two years to earn the required experience. Those are the full SSCP requirements: there is no mandatory course.

SSCP exam format
Since 1 October 2025 the SSCP exam uses Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT). You answer between 100 and 125 items in two hours. ISC2 explains that every candidate starts with an item well below the passing standard, and the algorithm re-estimates your ability after each answer, choosing the next item accordingly. The content is the same exam outline as the former linear exam.
ISC2’s SSCP and CAT pages do not state a passing score, so this page does not quote one. Because the test adapts, the number of questions you see is not a signal of how you are doing.

What is on the SSCP exam? The seven domains
The SSCP exam outline, effective 1 October 2025, is the syllabus. It lists seven domains, each broken into objectives and subtopics. Treat it as the checklist for everything else you study.
- Domain 1: Security Concepts and Practices
- Domain 2: Access Controls
- Domain 3: Risk Identification, Monitoring and Analysis
- Domain 4: Incident Response and Recovery
- Domain 5: Cryptography
- Domain 6: Network and Communication Security
- Domain 7: Systems and Application Security

ISC2 SSCP training
ISC2 sells its own SSCP training in two formats. Online instructor-led training comes with 180 days of access to course materials and videos from your first live session. Online self-paced training is available with 90 or 180 days of access, and bundles combine it with the exam.
SSCP training from other providers — classroom courses, a boot camp or an intensive bootcamp-style week — is optional; ISC2 does not require a course for SSCP. Whatever SSCP training or exam prep you choose, check it against the seven domains of the current outline.

SSCP study guide and official resources
ISC2’s list of SSCP self-study resources starts with the exam outline, which it calls the roadmap for a targeted study plan. It adds Official ISC2 Online Self-Paced Training, free interactive flash cards for terminology drills, the ISC2 Chapters Community and the ISC2 Study Hub with study tips.
ISC2 does not name a specific book as an ISC2 SSCP study guide on that page. Any SSCP study guide you buy should follow the outline effective 1 October 2025; older editions may be built on the previous version.

SSCP practice tests, exam questions and dumps
ISC2’s SSCP self-study list does not include an official practice exam; its free flash cards drill terminology. SSCP practice tests and SSCP practice questions therefore come from training providers. A useful SSCP practice exam covers all seven domains and, ideally, is long enough to rehearse a two-hour sitting.
SSCP exam questions and SSCP test questions from the live exam are a different matter. ISC2’s policies state that discussing ISC2 examination items, answers and responses with other people violates the ISC2 Examination Non-Disclosure Agreement that every candidate signs. An SSCP dump — or any set of SSCP exam dumps claiming to be real items — is built on exactly that breach, and an SSCP exam dump can put your certification at risk. Collections sold as SSCP dumps are no substitute for SSCP questions written against the outline.

SSCP salary: is SSCP worth it?
ISC2 does not publish an SSCP salary figure on its SSCP pages, and this page does not invent one. Any SSCP certification salary you see quoted comes from surveys outside ISC2 and mixes roles, countries and experience levels.
Whether SSCP is worth it depends on your role. It is aimed at hands-on administrators with about a year of experience; ISC2 positions it for moving into senior operational and team lead roles. If you are heading for security management with five years behind you, CISSP is the ISC2 credential built for that.

How do you maintain SSCP?
SSCP holders earn 60 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits every three years and pay an annual maintenance fee of US$135. Record CPEs as you earn them rather than at the end of the cycle.

SSCP practice questions on Certsqill
Certsqill’s SSCP practice questions are expert-developed: every answer option comes with an explanation, and a readiness score for each of the seven domains shows whether Cryptography or Network and Communication Security still needs work before you pass the SSCP exam for real.
