ITIL 4 Managing Professional certification: modules, exams and what changes with ITIL 5
ITIL 4 Managing Professional is a designation in PeopleCert’s ITIL 4 scheme. PeopleCert lists four modules for it — Create, Deliver and Support; Drive Stakeholder Value; High-Velocity IT; and Direct, Plan and Improve. Each exam has 40 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, closed book, with 70% to pass, and requires accredited training. ITIL (Version 5) is now out, and PeopleCert’s current plan is to sunset all ITIL 4 modules on 31 December 2027.

What is the ITIL 4 Managing Professional certification?
ITIL 4 Managing Professional, often shortened to ITIL 4 MP, is a designation in PeopleCert’s ITIL 4 scheme. You do not sit one exam for it: you earn it by completing a set of advanced modules after ITIL 4 Foundation.
PeopleCert lists the ITIL 4 Managing Professional certifications as four modules: three Specialist modules and one Strategist module. The Strategist module, Direct, Plan and Improve, is shared with the ITIL 4 Strategic Leader designation, so it counts towards both.
Holders of the ITIL 4 Managing Professional (MP) certification can move to the new ITIL (Version 5) designation through a transition module, covered further down.

Is ITIL 4 Managing Professional being replaced by ITIL 5?
ITIL (Version 5) has been released in phases, and PeopleCert states that ITIL 4 remains available for people who want to continue their current certification journey. Its ITIL FAQ also says the current plan is to sunset all ITIL 4 modules on 31 December 2027, and that exam voucher validity dates for ITIL 4 will be announced later.
In practical terms, the four ITIL 4 Managing Professional modules can still be booked today, but there is a planned end date. If you start now, plan to finish all four modules well before the end of 2027.
ITIL (Version 5) has its own Managing Professional designation. According to PeopleCert, it needs ITIL Foundation plus ITIL Product, ITIL Service, ITIL Experience and ITIL Transformation — different modules from ITIL 4.

ITIL 4 Managing Professional exam format
Each of the four modules has its own exam, and PeopleCert publishes the same format for all of them: 40 multiple-choice questions, 90 minutes, closed book, and a minimum score of 70% to pass — 28 of 40.
The module exams are offered in English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil) and Spanish. PeopleCert also runs exams through online proctoring and offers a re-sit option, Take2, that is available exclusively through online proctoring.
Since there are four exams, there are four pass marks to clear, not one overall score. A strong result in one module does not carry over to another.

ITIL 4 Managing Professional requirements
The entry requirement for each module is ITIL 4 Foundation or any ITIL v3 certification; holding the ITIL 4 Managing Professional certificate also qualifies you for the individual modules.
The second requirement is training. PeopleCert requires training through an Accredited Training Organization or ITIL Official eLearning for each module, and states that exam results will not be released without proof of completion. Self-study alone does not get you a result.

ITIL Managing Professional training and courses
Because training is mandatory, ITIL Managing Professional training is part of the cost and the schedule for every module. You can take it from an Accredited Training Organization or through ITIL Official eLearning from PeopleCert.
ITIL Managing Professional courses are usually booked one module at a time, each ending with that module’s exam. PeopleCert sells each module in bundles that combine the exam voucher with an eBook and, depending on the bundle, eLearning; the price depends on the bundle you choose.
Direct, Plan and Improve is worth planning carefully, because PeopleCert lists it as a universal module for both ITIL 4 Managing Professional and ITIL 4 Strategic Leader.

How much does the ITIL Managing Professional certification cost?
PeopleCert does not publish a single price for the ITIL Managing Professional certification. Each of the four modules is bought separately, and PeopleCert’s module pages offer several bundles, from exam-only retake bundles to packages with eBook and eLearning.
So the total is four module purchases plus any accredited training you buy from a training organisation. Check the current bundle prices on PeopleCert’s module pages for your country before you plan the budget.

How long is ITIL 4 Managing Professional valid?
PeopleCert’s module pages state certification renewal every three years, with 60 CPD points needed for renewal. Becoming a PeopleCert Plus member is the route PeopleCert describes as the simplest way to keep certifications current.
You do not need to retake all four exams to keep the designation. PeopleCert’s online proctoring FAQ says you can take any certification from the ITIL 4 product suite, and that all certifications and designations in the suite then share one renewal date, three years after your most recent exam.

Moving from ITIL 4 MP to ITIL Managing Professional (Version 5)
If you already hold ITIL 4 Managing Professional, PeopleCert offers the ITIL Managing Professional Transition (Version 5) module. It is available only to ITIL 4 Managing Professionals, ITIL 4 Masters, ITIL v3 Experts and ITIL v3 Masters, and requires training through an Accredited Training Organization or ITIL Official eLearning.
The transition has two exams, which can be taken in any order: ITIL Transformation (40 questions, 90 minutes) and a combined Product, Service, Experience exam (60 questions, 120 minutes). Both are open book with a 70% pass score. Passing both upgrades you to ITIL Managing Professional (Version 5).
If you are one module away from ITIL 4 MP, PeopleCert’s advice is to finish the last ITIL 4 module first and then take the transition.

ITIL 4 Managing Professional salary and value
PeopleCert does not publish salary figures for ITIL 4 Managing Professional, so this page does not quote any. PeopleCert’s own position is that existing ITIL knowledge and certifications continue to hold their value as ITIL evolves.
The practical question is timing. With ITIL 4 modules planned to sunset at the end of 2027 and an ITIL (Version 5) Managing Professional now available, decide whether you want to complete ITIL 4 MP and then transition, or start directly on the Version 5 modules.
