PMI Construction Professional certification (PMI-CP): exam, requirements and cost
The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI’s certification for construction and built environment project managers. To apply you need three years of construction project experience within the last ten years and four PMI-CP course modules; the exam has 120 questions in 230 minutes, and half of it is contracts management. You keep it with 30 PDUs every three years. PMI publishes no single exam price and no passing score.

What is the PMI Construction Professional certification?
PMI-CP is the Project Management Institute’s construction-specific credential. PMI says the PMI-CP prepares construction project managers to lead, plan and manage contracts, and the exam content outline calls the field “Construction and Built Environment Projects”.
Unlike PMP, which is industry-neutral, PMI-CP is built around the problems that dominate construction delivery: contracts and claims, interfaces between many parties, change orders and governance. The weighting of the exam makes that clear — contracts management alone is half of it.
It also has a different route to the exam. Instead of a free choice of training provider, you complete four PMI-CP course modules from PMI before you sit a capstone exam.

PMI-CP requirements and eligibility
PMI lists two requirements. The first is three years of on-the-job experience in construction projects or built environment projects, which must fall within the past ten years. The second is completing the four PMI-CP course modules, which you can take in any order.
PMI states that each self-paced module is a 6 to 10 hour commitment, and the four can also be taken as instructor-led classes through PMI Authorized Training Partners or bought together as a bundle. Applications run through a PMI.org account, and if you are selected for an audit you must provide proof of your project management experience.
The PMI-CP page does not state a formal education requirement. PMI’s shop lists PMI-CP modules titled Contract & Risk Management, Scope & Change Order Management, Interface Management and Project Communications; check on the certification page which four count as the required modules before you buy.

How much does the PMI Construction Professional certification cost?
PMI does not publish a PMI-CP exam price on the certification page. The page says only that once your application is accepted, the next step is to pay your exam fee. PMI’s Certification Handbook adds that prices may vary based on a candidate’s membership status and regional location.
Plan the full cost, not just the exam: the four course modules are a separate purchase, the handbook states that fees are paid again for a second and third attempt, and renewal every three years carries its own requirements. PMI shows the binding exam figure during the application.

PMI-CP exam format and passing score
The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and a time limit of 230 minutes — almost two minutes per question if you use the full time. You can take it at a Pearson VUE testing center, which PMI marks as recommended, or securely online.
Once your application is approved, PMI’s handbook gives you a one-year eligibility period to pass, and the PMI-CP page allows up to three attempts within one year. On languages, PMI’s page is not consistent: its “at a glance” box says the exam is offered in English, while a longer list names ten languages. Confirm your language when you schedule.
PMI does not publish a PMI-CP passing score. The Certification Handbook states that the passing score for all PMI exams is determined by sound psychometric analysis, and that the exams are criteria-based: they measure whether you meet the standard expected of a qualified person in the role.
Without a number to aim for, the safest plan is to be solid where the weight is. Contracts management and stakeholder engagement together make up 80% of the exam.

What is on the PMI-CP exam?
PMI’s PMI-CP Examination Content Outline, dated February 2024, has four domains. Contracts management covers risk, claims, the contract lifecycle and interface management; stakeholder engagement covers communication tools and preventing and resolving communication issues; strategy and scope covers change orders and scope methods; governance covers governance models and scope governance structures.
- Contracts Management — 50%
- Stakeholder Engagement — 30%
- Strategy and Scope Management — 15%
- Project Governance — 5%

PMI-CP course modules and study materials
The required modules double as the core study material, because they are what the capstone exam is built on. PMI’s Scope & Change Order Management module, for example, is listed at 14 hours and 14 PDUs.
Alongside the modules, the Examination Content Outline is the authoritative scope document: use its task list to check that every task, from managing the claims process to implementing governance models, is something you can apply to a real project. PMI’s Certification Handbook covers the rules on applications, eligibility periods, retakes and conduct.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?
PMI-CP runs on PMI’s three-year cycle. PMI states that PMI-CP holders need to earn 30 professional development units (PDUs) in each three-year cycle to maintain the certification.
After you pass, PMI offers three optional advanced courses — Construction Performance and Materials Management, Construction Technology and Innovation, and Construction Execution Planning. They are not required for PMI-CP, but PMI says they pave the way to the next level, the PMI Senior Construction Professional (PMI-SCP).

PMI-CP vs PMP
Both are PMI certifications, but they answer different questions. PMP certifies general project management across industries. PMI-CP certifies construction-specific competence, with half the exam on contracts management and a required set of PMI construction modules instead of open training.
For a construction project manager the two are not mutually exclusive. PMI-CP is the narrower, sector-specific signal; PMP is the broader one recognised outside construction too.

PMI-CP exam dumps
PMI treats its exam materials as confidential. Its Certification Handbook states that discussing exam questions after the exam would be a potential violation of the Certification Application/Renewal Agreement, and that rule violations can lead to revocation of your certification or permanent suspension from PMI certification exams.
Dumps also miss what the exam tests: applying contract, claims and change-order judgement to construction scenarios. Prepare from the modules and the content outline.

PMI-CP practice questions
Certsqill’s PMI-CP practice questions are expert-developed, with an explanation for every answer option, so you learn why a contract or claims decision is right and why the alternatives are not.
Your answers build a readiness score per exam domain, weighted the way PMI weights the exam — contracts management first — so your practice time goes where the scored questions are. Every plan comes with a 7-day money-back guarantee.
