Certified Jenkins Engineer certification: who issues it and what is confirmed
The Certified Jenkins Engineer (CJE) certification is issued by CloudBees, which launched it in March 2016; the Linux Foundation offers no Jenkins certification. As of 8 October 2026, CloudBees does not show the exam, its price or its format on a public page we could read, so whether it can currently be booked is not confirmed.

Is the Certified Jenkins Engineer certification still available?
We cannot confirm it from a public source, and we would rather say so than present the exam as bookable. On 8 October 2026 the CloudBees page for Jenkins training and certifications showed CloudBees’ general product page, with no mention of a certification or an exam.
CloudBees University still lists exam-preparation paths named “Certified Jenkins Engineer (CJE)” and “Certified CloudBees Jenkins Engineer (CCJE)”, and one page title refers to a CJE version dated “2022–Oct 2023”. The content of those pages is not publicly readable, so we cannot tell you from them whether an exam is open for booking today.
The practical advice: before you plan study time around CJE, ask CloudBees directly whether the exam is currently offered, at what price, and through which test provider. If CloudBees confirms details on a public page, this page will carry them with a date.

What is the Certified Jenkins Engineer certification?
Certified Jenkins Engineer is the Jenkins certification created by CloudBees. CloudBees announced it on 15 March 2016 as a credential “for demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience in the use of the open-source Jenkins server and plugin ecosystem”.
Jenkins itself is, in the project’s own words, an open source automation server which enables developers to reliably build, test and deploy their software. A CJE is therefore aimed at engineers who run and extend Jenkins, not at people who only trigger builds.
One common confusion: the Linux Foundation does not issue a Jenkins certification. Its certification catalog lists no Jenkins credential; it offers Jenkins training courses only.

How much does the Certified Jenkins Engineer certification cost?
CloudBees does not publish a current price on any public page we could read. Its 2016 launch announcement named launch-period prices, but a press release from 2016 is not evidence of what the exam costs today, so this page does not repeat those figures.
If CloudBees confirms that the exam is available, it will quote the current fee at that point. Until then, any price you see on a third-party site is not a CloudBees statement we can verify.

Certified Jenkins Engineer exam format and passing score
At launch, CloudBees and the Jenkins project described the exam as testing both theoretical knowledge of Jenkins and hands-on practical experience. Exams were taken in proctored test rooms at Prometric test centres worldwide from 12 May 2016.
For the exam as it stands today, CloudBees publishes no question count, duration, question types, delivery option or passing score on a public page we could read. Whether the test provider is still Prometric is not confirmed either.
For preparation this means the usual planning anchors are missing. Do not plan around a time limit or a cut score you found on a blog — confirm them with CloudBees before you book.

What is on the Certified Jenkins Engineer exam?
The 2016 launch post says the exam blueprint defines the main sections and their relative weighting. That blueprint is not on a public CloudBees page today, and an outline from 2016 would describe a Jenkins that has changed considerably since.
What can be stated is the scope CloudBees gave the certification: the open-source Jenkins server and its plugin ecosystem, tested as knowledge and hands-on experience. The CloudBees-specific material belonged to the separate Certified CloudBees Jenkins Platform Engineer credential.

Certified Jenkins Engineer prerequisites
CloudBees does not state eligibility requirements on any public page we could read, and the 2016 announcement names none.
Given that the exam was built to test hands-on experience, the realistic prerequisite is time spent operating Jenkins: installing and configuring it, writing pipelines, managing plugins and agents, and keeping an instance secure.
How long is the Certified Jenkins Engineer certification valid?
CloudBees does not publish a validity period or a renewal rule on a public page we could read. The CloudBees University page titles we could see do not state a validity period either.
If you already hold a CJE, the certificate itself is the best record of what was certified and when. For anything about renewal, CloudBees is the only source that can answer.
Certified Jenkins Engineer study materials and training
The official reference for Jenkins itself is the documentation published by the Jenkins project itself. Whatever the exam covers, it covers the open-source Jenkins server described there.
CloudBees runs CloudBees University, which lists the CJE and CCJE exam-preparation paths mentioned above. Their content was not publicly readable when we checked.
The Linux Foundation offers a Jenkins Essentials course (LFS267) covering topics such as pipelines, scaling with build agents, securing jobs and managing artifacts. It ends with a digital badge for completion and does not mention CJE — it is training, not a certification.

Certified Jenkins Engineer vs Certified CloudBees Jenkins Engineer
At launch in 2016, CloudBees introduced two credentials. Certified Jenkins Engineer covers the open-source Jenkins server and plugin ecosystem. The second, announced as Certified CloudBees Jenkins Platform Engineer, certified additional knowledge of CloudBees’ commercial platform on top.
CloudBees University now lists preparation for a “Certified CloudBees Jenkins Engineer (CCJE)”. CloudBees does not describe the scope of today’s CCJE on a public page we could read; the original announcement drew the line as CJE for open-source Jenkins and the CloudBees credential for the commercial platform.

Is there a Linux Foundation Jenkins certification?
No. The Linux Foundation certification catalog lists no Jenkins certification; it offers Jenkins courses only. Source: Linux Foundation, checked 8 October 2026.
Can I still book the CJE exam?
Not confirmed. No public CloudBees page we could read on 8 October 2026 shows the exam. Ask CloudBees directly before planning around it.
How much does the Certified Jenkins Engineer exam cost?

How many questions are on the CJE exam, and what is the passing score?
CloudBees publishes neither on a public page we could read, checked 8 October 2026.
What does CJE stand for?
Certified Jenkins Engineer — the CloudBees credential for the open-source Jenkins server and plugin ecosystem.
What is the difference between CJE and CCJE?
At launch in 2016, CJE covered open-source Jenkins and the separate Certified CloudBees Jenkins Platform Engineer covered CloudBees’ commercial platform. CloudBees does not publicly describe today’s CCJE scope. Source: CloudBees Newsroom, checked 8 October 2026.
Is Jenkins Essentials (LFS267) a certification?
No. It is a Linux Foundation course that ends with a digital badge for completion. Source: Linux Foundation, checked 8 October 2026.
Who is the Certified Jenkins Engineer certification for?
Engineers who administer and extend open-source Jenkins. CloudBees built it to test hands-on experience with the Jenkins server and plugin ecosystem, not theory alone. Source: CloudBees Newsroom and Jenkins Blog, checked 8 October 2026.
Jenkins Certified Engineer or Certified Jenkins Engineer?
Both word orders turn up in searches and on CVs. The credential CloudBees announced in March 2016 is called Certified Jenkins Engineer (CJE); “Jenkins Certified Engineer” is a common reordering of the same name, not a separate certification. If a job ad asks for a Jenkins Certified Engineer, it is asking for the CloudBees CJE.
Do not confuse it with the second credential CloudBees launched at the same time, the Certified CloudBees Jenkins Platform Engineer, which covered CloudBees’ commercial platform rather than open-source Jenkins.

Jenkins certification validity: what is known
CloudBees publishes no Jenkins certification validity period or renewal rule on any public page we could read when we checked on 8 October 2026, and its 2016 launch announcement does not state one either. We therefore do not claim that a CJE expires, or that it lasts for life.
What can be said: one CloudBees University page title refers to a CJE version dated “2022–Oct 2023”. Whatever the official position on expiry, the issue date on your certificate shows an employer which period of Jenkins it reflects — worth stating alongside the credential.
If you hold a CJE and need to know whether it is still considered valid — for a job application or a customer requirement — the only source that can answer is CloudBees. Ask in writing, and keep the reply with your certificate.
