What is the Microsoft Certified: AI Business Professional certification?
Microsoft Certified: AI Business Professional is a Microsoft certification for people who use generative AI in everyday business work rather than build it. Microsoft lists it at the Beginner level, for the roles Administrator and Business User, with Microsoft 365 Copilot as the product.
Microsoft’s audience description is specific: you should have experience using productivity tools powered by generative AI, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Cowork and pre-built agents, and use them to improve daily work and decisions without building AI apps or writing code. You should be comfortable in Outlook, Word, Microsoft Teams, PowerPoint and Excel.
One exam earns the cert: pass AB-730, Microsoft Certified: AI Business Professional is yours, and there is no second exam.

Microsoft Certified: AI Business Professional beta — what is the status?
Earlier listings of the certification on Microsoft Learn carried a “(beta)” label. The certification and exam pages checked on 10 October 2026 show no beta label: the AB-730 exam is scheduled through Pearson VUE like any other Microsoft exam.
The change that matters now is the update on 20 October 2026. Microsoft states that the English version of the certification will be updated on that date, and its study guide marks the audience profile and most skills as major changes. Agent creation (“Create and manage Microsoft 365 Copilot agents”) is removed; a new skill area, “Drive business outcomes by using agents”, is added, covering prebuilt Microsoft 365 Copilot agents and Microsoft Copilot Cowork. If you are booking the English exam after 20 October 2026, study the new outline.

What is on the AB-730 exam?
From 20 October 2026 the AB-730 exam measures four skill areas. Microsoft publishes these weights in the study guide:
- Understand generative AI fundamentals — 25–30%: generative AI across Microsoft 365, responsible AI and data protection
- Manage prompts and chats by using Microsoft 365 Copilot — 20–25%
- Manage business content and collaboration by using Microsoft 365 Copilot — 20–25%: drafting and analysing content, meetings and collaboration
- Drive business outcomes by using agents — 20–25%: prebuilt Microsoft 365 Copilot agents and Microsoft Copilot Cowork

AB-730 skills before 20 October 2026
Until the update, the exam had three skill areas: understand generative AI fundamentals; manage prompts and conversations by using AI, which included creating and managing Microsoft 365 Copilot agents; and draft and analyze business content by using AI, covering business documents, communications, meetings and collaboration.
Microsoft’s change log says the share of each of the three original areas decreased to make room for the new agents area. If you are taking a non-English version, check the study guide for which outline applies to your language.

Microsoft AB-730 exam: format, cost and passing score
Microsoft gives you 45 minutes for the Microsoft AB-730 exam and requires a score of 700 or greater to pass. It does not publish the number of questions. If the exam is not available in your preferred language, you can request an additional 30 minutes. The exam is offered in English, Arabic (Saudi Arabia), Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian and Spanish.
On cost, Microsoft states only that the price is based on the country or region in which the exam is proctored; the amount for your country appears when you schedule. The exam is proctored and booked through Pearson VUE. Microsoft offers online exams with Pearson VUE in most, but not all, countries and regions, and a test centre is the alternative.

AB-730 study guide and training
Microsoft’s official AB-730 study guide is the reference: it lists the skills measured, the change log for the 20 October 2026 update, and links to training and documentation. Microsoft points to two ways to prepare — self-paced learning paths and modules on Microsoft Learn, or an instructor-led course — plus Microsoft 365 Copilot and generative AI documentation.
Since the exam tests use, not theory, hands-on time in Microsoft 365 Copilot matters: drafting and analysing documents, working with chats, meetings and notebooks, and from 20 October 2026, using prebuilt agents and Copilot Cowork. Microsoft also offers an exam sandbox to try the exam interface and Exam Readiness Zone videos.

AB-730 practice exam
Microsoft publishes a free practice assessment for this certification. Practice assessments are available at no cost and can be attempted as many times as you like; Microsoft says they give an overview of the style, wording and difficulty of exam questions, and the score report shows the answer, a rationale and links to more information for every question.
Use the official practice assessment as your first AB-730 practice exam, then again shortly before the real one. Make sure the practice material you use reflects the outline that applies on your exam date, because the 20 October 2026 update changes the skill areas.

AB-730 dumps and leaked exam questions
Microsoft is explicit about AB-730 dumps and any other exam dump. Its security policy defines a brain dump as a source that contains exam questions fraudulently obtained to share or sell, and states that using such material to prepare for or during an exam constitutes cheating. Exam content is Microsoft’s confidential intellectual property, and posting remembered questions is prohibited.
The consequences can include a permanent ban from Microsoft’s credential program and revocation of certifications and scores. AB-730 exam dumps and lists of AB-730 exam questions presented as the real thing are therefore a risk to the certification, not a shortcut. Practise with the free assessment and original questions instead.

Does the Microsoft AB-730 certification expire?
Microsoft’s certification page does not state a renewal rule for this certification. Its general rules are that associate, expert and specialty certifications expire annually and can be renewed free with an online assessment, while fundamentals certifications do not expire. Microsoft lists AI Business Professional at the Beginner level without assigning it to either group on the page, so check your Microsoft Learn profile after you pass.
