What is the AI-300 certification?
AI-300 is the exam for Microsoft Certified: Machine Learning Operations Engineer Associate. Microsoft frames the role as AI operations (AIOps): setting up infrastructure for machine learning operations (MLOps) and generative AI operations (GenAIOps) on Azure.
In practice that means two halves. On the traditional side you train, optimise, deploy and maintain machine learning models with Azure Machine Learning. On the generative side you deploy, evaluate, monitor and optimise generative AI applications and agents with Microsoft Foundry. The certification is rated Intermediate and tagged for the AI Engineer role.
Microsoft describes the job as working with data scientists, DevOps teams and stakeholders to deliver scalable AI solutions with automation and monitoring — so this is an operations credential, not a pure data science one.

AI-300 exam status
On 14 October 2026 the Microsoft Learn certification page shows no beta label and no retirement notice; it was last updated on 7 October 2026, and the exam can be scheduled.
Two older Azure AI exams are no longer available. Microsoft’s retirement list shows DP-100 (Azure Data Scientist Associate) retired on 1 June 2026 and AI-102 (Azure AI Engineer Associate) on 30 June 2026. Microsoft does not name AI-300 as the replacement for either on the pages we checked, so treat any “AI-300 replaces DP-100” claim as unconfirmed.

How much does the AI-300 exam cost?
Microsoft publishes no single price. The certification page states that the price is based on the country or region in which the exam is proctored; the binding figure appears when you book.
Because the exam is offered only in English, Microsoft lets candidates whose preferred language is not available request an additional 30 minutes. That does not change the price, but it is worth arranging before you schedule.

AI-300 exam format and passing score
You have 120 minutes. The exam is proctored and offered in English only. Microsoft does not publish the number of questions.
A score of 700 or greater is required to pass, according to the AI-300 study guide. That is a scaled score, not a percentage of correct answers.
If you fail, you can retake the exam 24 hours after the first attempt. For later retakes the waiting time varies.

What is on the AI-300 exam?
The study guide lists five skill areas. The machine learning model lifecycle is the single largest at 25–30%, but the three generative AI areas together carry 40–55% of the exam, so a candidate with only classic MLOps experience will be short on a large share of it.
- Design and implement an MLOps infrastructure (15–20%) — Machine Learning workspaces, datastores, compute targets, environments, components, registries, Bicep and Azure CLI, GitHub Actions, network restrictions, Git
- Implement machine learning model lifecycle and operations (25–30%) — MLflow experiment tracking, automated machine learning, hyperparameter tuning, distributed training, pipelines, model registration, real-time and batch endpoints, progressive rollout, data drift and retraining triggers
- Design and implement a GenAIOps infrastructure (20–25%) — Foundry resources and projects, managed identities and RBAC, private networking, foundation model deployment, provisioned throughput units, prompt versioning in Git
- Implement generative AI quality assurance and observability (10–15%) — test datasets, groundedness, relevance, coherence and fluency metrics, risk and safety evaluations, monitoring latency, token cost, tracing
- Optimize generative AI systems and model performance (10–15%) — RAG tuning (chunk sizes, similarity thresholds, hybrid search, embedding models), fine-tuning, synthetic data, managing fine-tuned models to production

AI-300 prerequisites
Microsoft lists no formal prerequisite certification. The audience profile, however, is specific: a data science background with Python experience, an entry-level understanding of DevOps practices including GitHub Actions and command-line interfaces, and working knowledge of Azure Machine Learning, Microsoft Foundry, GitHub Actions and infrastructure as code with Bicep and Azure CLI.
If you come from data science, the gap is usually infrastructure: networking, identity and IaC. If you come from DevOps, the gap is usually model evaluation and the generative AI quality metrics.

AI-300 course and study materials
The authoritative scope is the AI-300 study guide on Microsoft Learn; work through it bullet by bullet and do each task in an Azure subscription rather than only reading about it.
Microsoft’s official course is AI-300T00-A, Operationalize machine learning and generative AI solutions: four days, Intermediate, intended for data scientists, machine learning engineers and DevOps professionals. Microsoft states you can prepare through instructor-led training or self-paced study.
Microsoft’s practice assessment for this certification runs on AI Skills Navigator, and you need to be signed in there to launch it. The exam sandbox shows the exam interface and question types.

How do you renew the AI-300 certification?
Microsoft associate, expert and specialty certifications expire annually, and Machine Learning Operations Engineer Associate is an associate certification. You renew by passing a free online assessment on Microsoft Learn.
The renewal assessment can be taken any time in a six-month eligibility window before expiry. Microsoft describes it as short, unproctored and open book, focused on recent updates; you can retry as often as needed until it expires, and passing extends the certification by one year from the expiration date.

AI-300 and the Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect Expert
AI-300 also counts toward an expert-level credential. To earn Microsoft Certified: Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect Expert, Microsoft requires you to pass Exam AB-100 and hold at least one prerequisite associate certification. Machine Learning Operations Engineer Associate is on that list.
If the architect track is your goal, AI-300 is one of the routes in; the other options on Microsoft’s list are mostly Dynamics 365, Power Platform and agent-building associates.

AI-300 dumps and practice questions
AI-300 dumps are not a legitimate way to prepare. Microsoft defines a brain dump as a source of fraudulently obtained exam questions and states that using one to prepare for or during an exam constitutes cheating. Microsoft can permanently ban candidates from future credentials and revoke certifications and scores.
Certsqill’s AI-300 practice questions are expert-developed and mapped to the five skill areas above. Every answer option comes with an explanation, and your results feed a readiness score per domain, so you can see whether the GenAIOps side or the classic model lifecycle is holding you back. A 7-day money-back guarantee applies.
