What is the AB-900 certification?
AB-900 is the exam code; the credential it leads to is called Microsoft 365 Certified: Copilot and Agent Administration Fundamentals (AB-900). Microsoft describes it as a way to demonstrate how to support, secure and protect an AI-enabled Microsoft 365 environment. It is rated Beginner and tagged for the Administrator role.
The audience profile is broader than Copilot alone. Microsoft expects you to know Microsoft 365 core services, security, identity and access, data protection and governance, along with Microsoft 365 Copilot and agents. You should be familiar with the admin centers for Exchange Online, SharePoint in Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Entra and Microsoft Purview, and be able to identify core objects such as users, groups, teams, sites and libraries.
In short, the Microsoft AB-900 certification sits where a Microsoft 365 fundamentals exam meets Copilot administration: you are tested on the tenant that Copilot runs in, and on the controls that decide what Copilot and agents can see.

AB-900 exam status: is it still in beta?
On 14 October 2026 the Microsoft Learn certification page shows no beta label, and the exam can be scheduled. The page announces that the English language version was updated on 14 October 2026, and the study guide now lists the skills measured as of that date.
The change is small. The study guide’s change log marks one objective group — identify the core security features of Microsoft 365 services — as a minor change; the audience profile and the core features group are unchanged. Microsoft notes that localized versions are updated approximately eight weeks after the English version, so if you sit the exam in another language, the previous wording may still apply for a while.

How much does the AB-900 exam cost?
Microsoft does not publish one global price. The certification page states that the price is based on the country or region in which the exam is proctored, and the binding amount appears when you schedule.
Treat any fixed AB-900 price you see quoted without a Microsoft source as unconfirmed, and check the figure for your own country when you book.

AB-900 exam format and passing score
You have 45 minutes. The exam is proctored, and Microsoft notes that you may have interactive components to complete. Microsoft does not publish the number of questions, so plan your pace on the clock rather than on a question count.
A score of 700 or greater is required to pass, according to the AB-900 study guide. Microsoft does not say how the score maps to a number of correct answers, so 700 is not a percentage.
The exam is offered in 13 languages: English, Arabic (Saudi Arabia), Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Korean, German, French, Indonesian (Indonesia), Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian and Spanish. If your preferred language is not available, you can request an additional 30 minutes. Online exams are delivered by Pearson VUE in most, but not all, countries; a test center is the alternative.

What is on the AB-900 exam?
The study guide splits the exam into three skill areas. Data protection and governance is the heaviest at 35–40%, which says a lot about the exam: it is less about switching Copilot on and more about making sure Copilot cannot surface data people should not see.
- Identify the core features and objects of Microsoft 365 services (30–35%) — licenses, the Microsoft 365, Exchange, SharePoint and Teams admin centers, Zero Trust, authentication, Microsoft Defender XDR, Microsoft Entra ID, conditional access, SSO, Privileged Identity Management
- Understand data protection and governance tasks for Microsoft 365 and Copilot (35–40%) — Microsoft Purview (sensitivity labels, DLP, Insider Risk Management, Communication Compliance, DSPM for AI, retention), how Copilot accesses data through Microsoft Graph and permissions, responsible AI, oversharing in SharePoint
- Perform basic administrative tasks for Copilot and agents (25–30%) — Copilot licensing versus pay-as-you-go, enabling and disabling features, Researcher and Analyst use cases, assigning licenses, monitoring usage and adoption, managing prompts, configuring user access to agents, creating an agent, agent approval and monitoring

AB-900 prerequisites
Microsoft lists no formal prerequisite and no required earlier certification. The audience profile does, however, describe what you are expected to bring: experience with AI-driven productivity tools and modern IT management practices, and an understanding of core Microsoft 365 security features such as authentication methods, conditional access policies and single sign-on.
If you have never opened the Microsoft 365 admin center or the Microsoft Purview portal, spend time in a trial or test tenant first. Many objectives ask you to identify the right admin center or tool for a task, which is hard to learn from reading alone.

AB-900 study guide, course and training
The AB-900 study guide on Microsoft Learn is the authoritative list of skills measured, including the change log for the 14 October 2026 update. Use it as your checklist: every bullet is something you should be able to explain or do.
Microsoft’s official course is AB-900T00-A, Introduction to Microsoft 365 and AI administration: a one-day, Beginner-level course aimed at beginning IT pros and novice administrators. Microsoft states you can prepare through instructor-led training or self-paced study on Microsoft Learn.
For the exam interface, Microsoft provides an exam sandbox where you can try the question types before exam day.

Does the AB-900 certification expire?
No. Microsoft’s renewal page states that Fundamentals certifications do not expire, so there is no annual renewal assessment for this credential. That is different from Microsoft’s associate, expert and specialty certifications, which expire annually and are renewed with a free online assessment.
Because the exam itself keeps changing — the 14 October 2026 update is an example — your certificate stays valid, but what the exam covers today may differ from what it covered when you passed.

AB-900 vs MS-900
MS-900, the exam for Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals, was retired on 31 March 2026 and can no longer be taken, according to Microsoft’s exam retirement list.
Microsoft’s pages do not formally call AB-900 the replacement for MS-900. What Microsoft Partner Center did announce in May 2026 is that the Modern Work Solutions Partner designation added the Copilot and Agent Administration Fundamentals certification as a skilling option to address the retirement of the Microsoft 365 Fundamentals certification. Content-wise, AB-900 keeps the Microsoft 365 foundations and adds Copilot, agents and AI data governance.

AB-900 practice exam, practice test and dumps
Microsoft offers a free AB-900 practice assessment on Microsoft Learn. Microsoft states that practice assessments are available at no cost, can be attempted as many times as you like, and give an overview of the style, wording and difficulty of the questions you are likely to see.
AB-900 dumps are a different matter. Microsoft defines a brain dump as a source containing exam questions that were fraudulently obtained, and states that using such material to prepare for or during an exam constitutes cheating. Candidates who break the rules may be permanently barred from future credentials and have certifications and scores revoked.
Certsqill’s AB-900 practice test is built on the three skill areas above. The AB-900 exam questions here are expert-developed, every answer option comes with an explanation of why it is right or wrong, and your results add up to a readiness score per domain, so you see whether data protection and governance — the largest area — is where your score is leaking. A 7-day money-back guarantee applies.
