What is the Okta Certified Administrator certification?
Okta Certified Administrator is Okta’s certification for people who run Okta in production: integrating directories, managing profiles and attribute sourcing, connecting applications, and securing sign-in with behaviour detection and device assurance.
It sits above Okta Certified Professional. You cannot go straight to it: the exam page requires an active, unexpired Okta Professional certification before you sit the Administrator exam.
Okta recommends two or more years in a technical security or identity management role, plus at least a year of hands-on experience with the Okta service.

Which Okta Certified Administrator exam is current?
The current exam is OKADM1, the Okta Certified Administrator Performance Exam, and it runs on Okta Identity Engine. Several older routes are closing or closed.
Okta lists the Classic Okta Administrator Certification Exam as discontinued on 1 June 2024 and no longer available. One Okta Certified Administrator Hands-On Configuration Exam is marked discontinued; another is described as the legacy certification exam that will be retired later this year, without a specific date. A Japanese-language Hands-On Configuration exam is still listed.
If you are preparing now in English, prepare for the Performance Exam.

How much does the Okta Certified Administrator exam cost?
The OKADM1 exam costs US$250, plus tax where applicable. Each retake costs US$100.
Because you need an active Okta Professional certification first, the full cost of reaching Administrator includes the Professional exam as well: the OKPRO1 Professional Performance Exam is also US$250.

Okta Certified Administrator exam format
The exam has two parts, each timed separately. Part I is 15 standard multiple-choice questions in 30 minutes. Part II is four performance-based, hands-on use cases in 135 minutes, which you complete in an assigned Okta Identity Engine Preview org.
During the exam you may use the Okta Help Center. One or more Part II tasks require Okta Verify on your mobile phone, which you may use only for those tasks. There is no scheduled break; you can ask your proctor for a short one, but the timer keeps running.
Part II is graded by automated scripts that query your tenant’s logs and APIs, when you submit or when the clock runs out. The exam is taken online with a remote proctor, in English.

Okta Certified Administrator passing score
Okta does not publish one. The Certification Program Handbook states that Okta discloses results as pass or fail only and does not publish cut scores, and the study guide confirms you get a final pass or fail decision only.
Results are emailed within ten business days. If Okta audits an attempt, the study guide notes this can take up to three business days.

Okta Certified Administrator exam retakes
If you fail, the Handbook allows a retake 24 hours after the first failed attempt; after each further failure you wait 14 days. Each retake costs US$100.
The Handbook also prohibits brain-dump materials and sharing exam content. Sanctions include being barred from registering for any Okta exam for at least six months.

How long is the Okta Certified Administrator certification valid?
Okta certifications must be renewed every 24 months, or replaced by a higher-level Okta certification within that time.
For Administrator, the simplest route is the unproctored Okta Certified Administrator Maintenance Exam, based on Okta Identity Engine, which renews the certification for 24 months. Passing the Okta Certified Consultant exam also renews it.

Okta Certified Administrator training and preparation
Okta recommends the Okta Administrator Series Learning Plan or an equivalent training programme. It also offers a free Okta Administrator Performance Practice Exam built for the OKADM1 format.
Since half of the exam time is hands-on, practise in a real Okta org: build an Active Directory integration, set up a custom app integration, configure behaviour detection and device assurance policies, and practise monitoring and troubleshooting until it feels routine.

Okta Certified Administrator vs Okta Certified Professional
Professional is the entry certification: the OKPRO1 Performance Exam has six hands-on use cases in 2 hours 30 minutes, and Okta recommends a year in a technical security or identity role. Administrator builds on it, with deeper topics, a recommended two years of experience, and an active Professional certification as a requirement.
Both exams cost US$250 and both renew every 24 months. The Handbook also allows renewal by attaining a higher-level Okta certification within the 24 months.
