What is the Okta Certified Technical Architect certification?
Okta Certified Technical Architect sits at the top of Okta’s core certification track: its prerequisites include Okta Certified Consultant and Okta Certified Developer. Okta describes it as its most prestigious certification, and you earn it by passing a single exam.
It is not a knowledge test in the usual sense. You receive a customer case study, design an identity and access management solution for it, present your design and then defend your decisions in front of a panel of assessors. What is being certified is the ability to do an architect’s job with a real customer.
One housekeeping note: Okta still hosts an older study guide page titled “Certified Technical Architect Exam Study Guide – retired”. The current exam is described in the Okta Certified Technical Architect Exam Study Guide, which this page follows.

How much does the Okta Technical Architect exam cost?
The Okta Certified Technical Architect exam costs US$5,000. Each subsequent retake costs US$2,500. Both figures appear in the study guide and in the Okta Certification Program Handbook.
The prerequisites belong in the budget as well: you must already hold Okta Certified Consultant and Okta Certified Developer – Workforce Identity Cloud, and each of those has its own exam fee.

Okta Certified Technical Architect exam format
The exam has three separately timed parts. Part I takes 240 minutes: you receive a customer case study that details the customer’s objectives, pain points and future plans, and you build your current-state and future-state diagrams and solution design in a Google Slides deck that Okta provides, with a live proctor over Zoom.
After a one-hour break, Part II gives you 20 minutes to present your diagrams and a high-level overview of your solution. The assessors listen and do not ask questions. After a 15-minute break, Part III gives the panel 70 minutes to ask why you made particular design decisions; Okta suggests answers of one to two minutes each.
Time does not carry over from Part I to Part II, but unused time from Part II carries over to Part III. Parts II and III are recorded, and you must stay on camera with your microphone unmuted.
Okta’s advice on the design is direct: make a decision for each customer requirement rather than presenting several options, and document any assumptions you make.

What is on the Okta Technical Architect exam?
Okta weights the exam across four domains that mirror an architect engagement, from discovery to presentation. Designing the solution carries the most weight, but more than a fifth of the score comes from presenting and explaining it.
- Gathering information about a company’s environment and future needs — 19%
- Synthesizing information about a company’s current environment and future needs — 27%
- Designing an identity and access management solution to meet a company’s needs — 32%
- Presenting and explaining an identity and access management solution — 22%

Which Okta technologies does the exam cover?
The study guide lists the technologies in scope: Single Sign-On, Universal Directory, Advanced Server Access, API Access Management, multi-factor authentication, Okta Lifecycle Management including Workflows, and Okta Access Gateway.
Troubleshooting tasks and coding tasks are explicitly not part of the exam. Okta also lists skills it assumes but does not test, including federation and directory protocols such as SAML 2.0, WS-Federation, OAuth, OpenID Connect, Active Directory and LDAP, and soft skills such as whiteboarding a solution and writing design documentation.

Okta Certified Technical Architect prerequisites
The prerequisites are strict and checked before you can register. You need the Okta Certified Consultant and Okta Certified Developer – Workforce Identity Cloud certifications, at least four years of industry experience as a services or solution architect, at least three years of experience with Workforce Identity Cloud and at least three years with Customer Identity Solutions.
Before registering you complete an application in which you affirm these prerequisites and describe your hands-on project experience. The handbook confirms that additional eligibility requirements apply to this exam and that its registration process differs from Okta’s other exams.

Okta Technical Architect passing score and results
Okta does not publish cut-scores. The handbook states that results are disclosed as pass or fail only, and for this exam the pass/fail result arrives by email within 15 business days, compared with ten business days for Okta’s other exams.
The handbook’s general retake rules are a 24-hour wait after a first failed attempt and 14 days after each further failure; for this exam each retake costs US$2,500.

How do you renew the Okta Technical Architect certification?
Okta certifications must be renewed every 24 months. For the Technical Architect certification, Okta offers an unproctored certification maintenance exam: passing it renews the certification automatically for another 24 months.
Put the expiry date in your calendar when you pass. Given what it costs to earn this credential, letting it lapse would be an expensive mistake.

Okta Technical Architect exam dumps and exam rules
Okta is explicit on both pages. The study guide states that exam dumps are prohibited from its list of approved resources, and the handbook prohibits using unauthorised preparation materials — including “brain-dump” materials, actual exam questions and other unauthorised published exam content — before or during an exam.
Sanctions can include denial of the certification for up to 12 months and a ban of at least six months from registering for any Okta exam. For a case-study exam assessed by a live panel, memorised answers would not help anyway: the panel asks why you made your own design decisions.

Okta Technical Architect practice questions
Certsqill’s Okta Certified Technical Architect practice questions are expert-developed and follow Okta’s four domains, from gathering requirements to presenting a design. Every question explains each answer option, so you see why one architecture decision fits the customer’s requirement and why each alternative does not.
Your readiness score is shown per domain, which helps you find weak spots in requirements analysis or solution design before you commit US$5,000 to an attempt. Use it together with practice designing and presenting full solutions out loud. Certsqill comes with a 7-day money-back guarantee.
